Question Quick question to Lance mains: Which Guarding Mechanics to choose?
There are 4 types of guarding mechanics for lance in MH Wilds (If i not wrong):
1.) Perfect Guard / Guard
2.) Charged guard (the RT+ O button)
3.) Power guard (the RT + O , then X)
4.) Guard dash?
As a lance main, how would you choose the guarding mechanics when facing a monster's attacks? or what kind of guarding mechanics you should use for optimal dps / safety measure?
This is my understanding so far, please enlighten me if i am wrong:
1.) Perfect guard / Guard: use most of the time for those guardable attacks that you are familiar with; pros: use no stamina, minimal knockback (if guard perfectly), faster strikes to return.
2.)Charged guard: use it when you are guarding an unfamiliar attacks (a.k.a. not confident to do perfect guard yet) from monster?? pros: very long guarding timeframe, DPS might drop, but safety first.
3.) Power guard: use it when facing multiple hits of attacks, or unblockable hits that comes from multiple angles. The bigger the hits taken, the bigger the strikes to return. pros: that is why you can say lance is the most safety weapon yeah?
4.) Guard dash: use it for mobility, to get close to the monster while avoiding damage. Can be chained to leaping thrust that further get close to the monster.
Thanks for the input.
Edit: typo

Question Questions on Focus Mode and GRT Jump tech in MH Wilds.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Lance main fellows, please guide me how to get good.
Previously I played though to the endgame without ever using toggle mode for focus mode. I saw a comment in reddit and other youtube guide said that focus mode in toggle mode is super useful for many weapons, so I started trying it out and it's actually really helpful, especially for the guard dash in any direction against AT arkveld.
The only problem is I'm struggling for me to pull off the reverse power guard (aka grt jump tech like in the video) with toggle mode. Part of me know that it's a skill issue, but I want really to master lance and use all the viable technique.
There are 2 questions for me:
1. Do I just ignore toggle mode and go back to holding down the button for focus mode? or toggling is that much better?
2. If I decide to stick with toggle mode, is there anyway to make it easier to ppull off the reverse powerguard or do I just gotta git gud?
Also, shoutout to Mikarai for introcduing me to this tech from this video and Fittziirugi for making

Informative Good tip: the best way to get a new PB is to work on lowering your average hunt time
These times are all far away from my pb (of 8’34) but I got all of them in just 2h40 of practice today, while keeping track of my average completion time. And it was a really bad RNG day too.
A new pb sometimes comes from a few different RNG factors blessing you, and It can feel like a time you’re never getting again, that’s when averages come into place. It forces you to understand what you’re doing right and what you can improve and takes away the pressure and frustration of thinking too much about PBs.
If your hunt times vary too much that means you need to work on consistency, on being able to repeat the fight in a very similar way a lot of times.
And even if you don’t care about your hunt times (which its fine and healthy), working on being consistent is a great way to improve as a hunter, as sadly hunt times are the best indicator for that.
So even if you never cared, maybe give it a try someday.

“Thou shall show no fear in the mighty eyes of the Lord! I shall hold my post. This is where I make my stand. I shall not abandon my post. I am my perimeter, my perimeter is me. I AM MY PERIMETER AND MY PERIMETER IS ME!”
I love this series, makes me feel like an unstoppable bulwark in the face of these monsters.

Rant Having beaten Rathalos and Diablos
So, today I finally did the missions for beating Rathalos and Diablos in World. And I have to say, Lance absolutely dog walked them. Besides the command grab by Rathalos, they were both really fun fights with a good back and forth in aggression and defense. I used Dragonborn II on Rathalos and Glacial Lance I on Diablos, and the Diablos one only took me about 10 minutes while Rathalos was 15 minutes, mostly due to it constantly running away which got me a little mad.
I only carted once during the Rathalos hunt and none in the Diablos hunt, I think it’s safe to say I love this weapon.

Rant A concern... (funny)
Lance mains where are you?
I'm a Gunlance / Hunting Horn main that enjoys to play multiplayer lobbies and sending random SOSs out and recently i've noticed that i haven't seen a Lance user in a few days (no exaggeration). So i decided to investigate and join a random lobby that had 62 players from different parts of world. Not...a...single...Lance user !!! I'd post a screen shot but i'd have blurry all the names, but believe me, i couldn't find a single one ! Granted there was also only 3 other Gunlance players besides me, but STILL !
I hope ya'll are well wherever you are, please let us know if your stranded somewhere and you can't comeback to the hub, i'll do my best to search for your SOS! o7
Much love. ❤️
A concerned Gunlancer. 🥹🫶

Video Tips and Advice?
First timing lance after a miserable defeat using CB. Keep noticing that my pokes keep going further and further away from Teos head and that lance doesn't have a great turning radius while poking
Also still confused on claw attacks and in the video I also tried doing the leaping trust hop back and repeat but forgot how to do it. (was nailing it in training area)
Not trying to be speed runner level just a good hunter with a poking stick (First Toaster Run With Poking Stick)

Question Double Counter Thrust vs Perfect Guard.
so... as the title suggests I've got a wee question about the right responses to use against incoming attacks when using the lance.
more specifically this question kind of sits more in the line of uncharged DCT's as a counter response vs going for a perfect guard into a return thrust or GRT.
the amount of charge a DCT has a pretty massive impact on how much damage it can inflict but it also represents a very strong defensive tool when it lands, letting you quickly poke back damage into a monster as it attacks (a good example I can think of would be Arkveld's sweeping chain blackflip or Steve's side to side leg sweeps).
on the other hand, perfect guard into a return thrust or GRT has a ton of protection (admittedly more chip) and perhaps a more reliable way to get "charged" return damage and getting back into the fight?
do people have a preference for their "fast" response counter tool out of these two options? would it be better to save DCT's for when you've got a fully charged (or even 2 stage charged) return option? or would it be better to perfect block and use the counter options there for faster uptime?
edit: cheers for the clarification folks!

Question Question regarding state of Lance and how it might be improved.
I'm trying to understand what the generic "Lance needs to be stronger/better/flashier" argument that ive read/heard people make is. Why do you think it has such a low player representation. Is it really just because it doesnt have as many fancy lights as longsword (for example)?
Can someone explain what it needs?
Why would something simple like a flat (for example) 30% damage increase across the board not solve it?
Maybe a new Skill Gem that causes your perfect blocks to deal damage based on the weight/impact/damage of the attack you blocked? Encouraging you to perfect guard more and focus less on the counter gameplay?
Im asking because I'm not a pro and I am trying to learn.

Rant Fought Rey Dau with a Lance
So. Yesterday I fought Rey Dau finally. I was so excited and scared out of my mind that I forgot to block. But when I calmed down I blocked 9 of its fully charged blasts.
Damn, I love Lance. Makes me feel like both the unstoppable force and the immovable object
