180 here we come. Currently scoring 174-176 on PTs, the rest is all mental. This is what I trained for. I can do it, and you can too.

What is taking the actual LSAT like?

I was reading about the updates for the LSAT past August 2027 and I realized I know basically nothing about what the testing experience is like. I know you get a break, but what is that break like? What do the testing centers look like (I'm talking specifics, what are the chairs like and how close do you sit to people)? Do you bring your own computer, or do they give you computers? If you've taken the test, give me literally every detail you can (not about the test, obviously, but the experience)

Score release

If I get a 165 or above, I'm upgrading my graphics card tomorrow. If it's any lower, I'm not. So I'm about to be happy and broke, or sad and less broke.

Score hold question

Hi! I’m very anxious and need some people more knowledgeable than I am to help me out.

Last year I took the November LSAT and bombed. I had the flu during it, wasn’t prepared, and so anxious. I immediately canceled my score.

I took the October LSAT feeling much better about it since I’ve been studying consistently and scoring pretty well on PTs.

My anxiety is this: My score was so low last year, and if I did as well as I think I have + based on my PTs, wouldn’t that mean a big jump would cause a score hold? Do they see the canceled score and consider that?

I know not every jump requires a score hold, but I’m expecting like a 10 point increase. And when I say bad I’m not being dramatic like I did very poorly.

I hope this made sense lmk if I need to clarify.

No testing center near me available????

I tried to schedule my test for Nov 11 in my city, but the testing center didn't even show up as an option. There was one slot open for 8 AM in a city about three hours away from me (probably gonna be around four hours once the snow falls). I signed up for that in my panic, but really can't go there to take my test. Is there anything I can do????

Prometric unable to schedule anyone else? Even by phone?

Prometric’s website can’t schedule my exam. I called and they can’t either due to technical issues on their end.

Others are apparently having this issue they said and it was already escalated to their IT.

Told me to try again in a hour.

All these years and this company still has problems with this monthly process.

Anyone else having this issue?

Error - We were unable to book your appointment. Please return later to start your appointment selection again. lsat

Spent 30 minutes trying every possible method to fixing this, nothing works. POS prometric

UPDATE: Supposedly a website-wide crash, multiple users report same issue. I was just able to get a confirmation by having multiple tabs open scheduling it. Took me roughly 10 tries. Hopefully everyone else reading this was able to get the time slot they needed

Am I the only one not seeing any options to register for the Nov exam? I want to do Nov 13th but the website is saying there’s no availability. So i’m trying to change my test date to see what other appointments are available but it is not letting me.

Anyone know how I can fix this issue? I just want to register, Idc about the date or time anymore.

THE NEW LSAT: My own FAQ, early thoughts edition.

I assume you know about the changes detailed here:

https://www.lsac.org/lsat-will-look-little-different-starting-august-2027

Let me know what other questions I should think about.

Will scores in the new format remain consistent with scores from the old format?

Here is what LSAC wants you to believe, "LSAT scores of 120-180 will continue to represent the same skills, and scores will continue to be comparable across different testing years." Remember this is the same LSAC who said something like "Trust bruh, the LSAT Flex scores will def be 100% comparable to pre-pandemic test scores." We know how that turned out. This is the same LSAC that is hand waving the insane uptick in 180 tests: about 300 applicants with a 180 last cycle, compared to about 30 applicants with a 180 ten years ago. But sure, this new format will result in perfectly comparable scores.

Could a test taker be advantaged or disadvantaged by the unscored questions they get? (this is verbatim one of LSAC's FAQ)

Here is what LSAC wants you to believe, "No. The unscored questions in each section are balanced in the types and difficulty of the questions, as are the scored questions in the sections." But here is where LSAC is playing games. Certainly, in the creation of the unscored questions, LSAC has a feel for what makes a question more or less difficult. However, it isn't until LSAC gets performance data on these unscored questions that the difficulty level is truly known. Also, the performance data of unscored questions is studied for ambiguity and bias, both of which can make a question unfairly more difficult, but LSAC doesn't even know about that ambiguity or bias until after the unscored questions are administered and the performance data is analyzed. I grade LSAC's answer to this question an "F".

What is LSAC not telling us about the new format?

Since August, we have seen LSAC create "Frankenstein" sections consisting of questions drawn from multiple other scored sections. For decades we have known more or less how LSAC goes about constructing tests, but LSAC hasn't provided any information on the methodology used to create these new Frankenstein sections. What other section creation or overall test creation change is being planned along with this upcoming format change? Is it possible that we are moving away from the idea of a particular test being the same 75 scored questions for everyone who took that particular test?

How does the new format affect test taking strategy?

Current test taking strategies that involve pacing, taking questions out of order, and sacrificing some questions to guesses in favor of spending more time on other questions rely on knowing that every question in a given section counts towards the score. On the new LSAT, you won't be able to confidently sacrifice a long parallel reasoning to a guess in favor of sinking that saved time into a more manageable weaken question. The parallel might be scored while the weaken might be unscored. Also, I suspect that this new way of creating sections will result in LR no longer having the predictable first half easier, second half harder. Look for test prep companies to come up with new strategies.

How does the new format affect the coefficient of reliability which affects the standard error of measurement which affects the +/- range on score reports?

All that you need to care about is the +/- range. The LSAT used to sit at +/- 3 but is now at +/- 4. Smaller range is better. Smaller ranges are achieved by tests that are very similar to each other in form and difficulty and lack features that could lead to swings in score. So, let's talk about that.

When unscored questions are in their own section, they affect overall score indirectly by where they are placed in the section order and what type of section you get. For example, those who suffer from mental fatigue in the last section could see their score go up if the unscored section is last, whereas those who need a warm up to really hit their mental stride could see their score go up if the unscored section is first. Those who love RC benefit if the unscored is RC, and those who love LR benefit if the unscored is LR. But, despite how the unscored section could indirectly affect the overall score, at least every test taker gets exactly the same scored sections.

The embedding of unscored questions among scored questions allows the unscored questions to affect the performance in the scored questions more directly. These unscored questions can affect section taking rhythm (an odd or unusually hard unscored question can throw a person off), and every second spent working on unscored questions takes time away from answering scored questions. This is in addition to how placement of the unscored questions within the section could play into the aforementioned factors of mental fatigue / stride. And, my guess is that there won't be a single set of unscored questions that always gets paired with a single set of scored questions, meaning that Alice and Bob might have the same scored RC questions, but have different unscored RC questions embedded, leading to very different overall RC section experiences.

It seems like embedded unscored questions would create larger score swings, but LSAC seems to think that the proposed change will "enhance the security and reliability of the LSAT going forward". If they are using reliability here as synonymous with coefficient of reliability, then enhancing it will mean that those current +/- 4 point score ranges will tighten up. We will see.

What is going to happen to the type of predictions that PowerScore Crystal Ball did, and that Jon Denning now does solo?

Kudos to Dave and Jon for their years of shockingly accurate and free to all predictions about upcoming LSATs, but as of August this year, the Frankenstein created sections are throwing these kinds of predictions for a loop. I suspect that the new LSAT format in 2027 will make predictions even harder. So, if you want some predictions for your test, take one before the change.

Will accommodated test takers be able to request no unscored questions in the same way that they can currently request no unscored section?

The main argument for no unscored section for extra time test takers has to do with mental fatigue. A test taker with 50% extra time and no unscored section still has a longer test than a test taker with standard time and an unscored section, so removing the unscored section for an extra time test taker to somewhat equalize mental fatigue seems fair. That same mental fatigue argument could be made for this new format, but removing the embedded unscored questions provides big advantages that go beyond equalizing mental fatigue. I suspect that LSAC will NOT allow removal of embedded unscored questions for extra time test takers, but we will have to wait and see.

Registration hold for 180s

Do all registration hold for 180s typically go into effect around the same time? Starting to see a few posts about them and wondering if that means I can log off LSAC for the day.

My wife divorced me just four days before the October LSAT. Despite this, I still took the test.

Four days before the LSAT, my wife, who I had been with for six years and married to for one, told me she wanted a divorce. I still took the exam.

I feel like I did horribly. During the test, I kept tearing up and could not concentrate. Afterward, she did not even message me to ask how it went.

These have been the worst couple of weeks of my life. Results come out tomorrow, so please pray for me. I wish everyone the best of luck with their results and legal journey.

For context, received a score hold last night with what seems to be the basic message. Checked registration and…

Does this mean what I think it means?

It wasn’t showing a registration hold this morning. I’ve only taken the LSAT twice.

Am I the only one who just found out you can search for text on LSAT RC?

When I learned this, I also saw that you can no longer do control find, but this is still huge.

LSAT Scheduling Win

Just scheduled today and for the first time (fourth take) I was able to avoid an 8am schedule time! It’s at 1:30 which is a bit late but that 8am was truly not working for what I needed to do to manage my POTS. No matter the outcome I will not be retaking and I can now see the end in sight 🥹

Registration hold updates/stories

I saw just now a registration hold but no score hold...any stories of someone who had a registration hold the day before but did NOT get a 180? Trying to tamp down the delusion bc there's no way...

Google says there is a chance it could just be a glitch, are there stories on reddit of that happening

Did anyone complete their argumentative writing late last night or early this morning? Has it been approved yet? Mine hasn’t, and I’m getting a bit worried that it won’t be approved in time for tomorrow?
