Islam & LGBT A bit of positivity

In case, someone was looking for acceptance and validation today, here are some beautiful lines from Scott Siraj ul Haqq Kugle’s book “Homosexuality in Islam”.

For anyone struggling to reconcile their faith and homosexuality, please ask Allah for guidance. Instead of wallowing in despair and self-hatred, talk to Him and ask Him all the questions and thoughts you have in your mind. Remember there is a reason Allah put those feelings in your heart. Maybe He wants you to understand something about yourself or maybe He wants you to do research. Who knows maybe he wants you to be the pioneer of a progressive version of Islam.

Also as much as I respect traditional scholars, please don’t look up to them regarding this issue. They have never investigated it in an unbiased view. They have no idea about the conflict and constant war in your mind and heart. Do your own research. Read books like the one mentioned above. Watch Dr Khaled Abou El Fadl’s videos (The Usuli Institute) on youtube.

Every step of the way, pray to Allah. Tell Him you are not trying to defy Him. You are actually a good muslim at heart who cares for their religion and that’s why is in all this conflict. Little by little you will find peace and you’ll see the light at the end of the tunnel.

In all such moments, remember there is a reason for this struggle. It is your job to find that reason and stay true to it.

Stay blessed!

LGBT Supportive Discussion moving out before marriage

hi guys. i am an arab women , 25 who wants to move out of my parents house

i talked to them so many times about it and it turns into a fight everytime. they say people will talk about us and what will people think which is so unfair since it doesn’t matter

i recently landed a good full time job around an hour away. this is a work from home position which sometimes requires me to be in the office. working from home has been a struggle, my mom doesn’t respect my job and expects me to do things around the house and if i don’t i get in trouble. my sisters also always bring my nieces and expects me to help watch them. when i talked to them about this they continued to overstep my boundaries and guilt tripped for not helping saying it’s so hard to be a mom. my mom also expects me to help with my nieces and will say she will babysit them make me do it

i am not hijabi but feel like there isn’t a community that can give me advice on this. i’m scared that if i move out they will be so angry and my moms made comments about how im not allowed back to the house if i do move out. what do you guys suggest i do?

has anyone moved out before marriage? if so, how did your parents react and how did you handle it

Question Hijab/covering

For people who cover or wear Hijab, when/who do you wear it around? Ie. If you're bisexual, do you cover around women, men & nonbinary folks? If you're lesbian, do you cover around men still? Etc

Personal Issue Advice on what should i do

Hi Everyone - I hope I can find someone who went through what’s going on.

I genuinely love my faith so much and I love our religion and I know with every single bone of mine that I need god in my life to actually survive because i genuinely don’t have anyone else to feel supported by when it comes to school or or friends jobs or things that constantly worry me, god has always had my back

I’m not educated on the general consensus of the is it haram to be gay in this specific sub. But growing up obv i was taught that it was haram to act upon your emotions & I understood why and how it would effect us as a society when one of the reasons we were created was to build and develop and continue living on earth & we can’t do that without having kids- so that made sense

I think I started to think about the idea of girls being attractive at the age of 13 & it hasn’t left my mind since. I think I’m Bi-curious because growing up I had crushes on both genders. I never dated anyone, as I grew up in an arab country with a very closed off culture all around me and just never even felt comfortable to share with anyone not even friends

I moved to canada a few years ago, I’m 22 now, most of my friends are straight &/or arab - i don’t feel comfortable being out to them. And I don’t have any gay friends to help me navigate this but being here is definitely makes it much easier to potentially date someone and i wouldn’t be uncomfortable to explore something in private

The Dilemma:

Should I just ignore my feelings and focus on my deen which like guys idk i wouldn’t mind

Should I explore something with a girl - just to see what it’s like? And if Yes HOW!? Like where do i even begin? Where would i meet them? How would dating in that case look like - how does everything work? Are there any known rules to always go by?
(Also I’m afraid that it’ll be unfair for the other person if I’m asking them to keep our relationship a secret you know? And is that even common? )

I appreciate all the help & advice - Im new to everything and Im missing a lot of knowledge and information so sorry about that 🙏

Need Help Trans Man (ftm, born female) 39 Needing community & thinking I'll always be alone

Hello I am a 39 y/o transgender man (born female transitioned to man) I am a revert to Islam living in the USA and I am so desperately seeking community to share and practice faith with. I was called to Islam many years ago and many times but only recently converted. I am so grateful for finding my way here but I am so incredibly lonely on this journey. It seems like I'm too old for many of the LGBTQ+ spaces and events and trans men are often erased or invisible in our experiences even in the LGBTQ+ community and trying to find other Muslim trans people and queer people is nearly impossible it seems. I want people to have deep conversations with, to discuss faith, to laugh and eat and volunteer or something together. To pray together. Are there any of us out there? I want community so badly and also I dream of finding a Muslim wife to love and cherish and build a caring life with but I just don't see any way that someone would want to be with a trans man especially at this age. Are there any places for people like me? Anyone else looking for community? Sorry for just venting I am feeling down today. May delete this anyway.

Question South Asian, M - 19 - how do DL men survive arranged marriages?

I’m 19, South Asian, Muslim, and gay. I’ve known I’m gay for basically my whole life. I’ve had experiences with men and I’m currently seeing a guy who’s South Asian too. He lives in another country, so it’s long distance and I only see him when I fly over.

The problem is marriage. In my family, marriage is constantly talked about, and I’m basically the last one left who hasn’t been “married off.” I know that once I finish my degree, get a job, maybe buy a place, my parents will expect me to get married. It feels like everyone assumes I’ll just obey because that’s what’s expected.

The thing is, I’m not attracted to women at all. The idea of marrying a woman makes me feel sick because I know I’d be living a lie, and it wouldn’t be fair to her either. But my boyfriend is in a similar position. He’s the youngest in his family too and his family also expects him to get married. The difference is that he says he doesn’t mind getting married whereas I really do.

I keep thinking about DL men in the UK and elsewhere who end up in marriages with women while secretly seeing men. How do they cope with it? Does it ever actually work or does it just destroy everyone involved?? the husband, the wife and sometimes kids too?

I don’t want to hurt a woman by marrying her when I know I can’t give her a real marriage. But I also don’t want to lose my family, disappoint my parents, or blow up my life. My parents are getting older and I feel like there’s this countdown hanging over me.

Part of me thinks: if my parents aren’t around by the time I’m older I’ll just choose not to marry and be with a man instead. But I can’t build my whole future around waiting for something like that. It feels messed up even thinking it?

Has anyone been in this situation especially South Asian, Muslim, or from a strict family? How did you handle marriage pressure? Did you come out, delay it, refuse, or end up in a marriage? I’m not looking for judgement, just honest advice from people who understand how hard this is.

Hello,

I'm a 25-year-old living in the UK.

I'm looking for friends.

Anyone who wants just to talk and wants someone to understand what they are going through considering this is not exactly easy being both Muslim and LGBT.

Would be nice to talk to people and see where it goes..

I did this on my previous post and it went quite well, but I'm looking to get to know more people preferably closer to me.

A shoulder to cry on? Anything helps

❤️

Personal Issue Any gay men (Muslim family) in the UK looking for a marriage of convenience?

23F, comment if you are a UK citizen looking for a marriage of convenience with another UK citizen. Only serious people, and only gay men with muslim families looking for a cover up.

Please don't downvote just because you don't agree with a marriage of convenience. I've thought this through and I know living a lie isn't ideal but sometimes it is truly the best option

Personal Issue In conflict

Salam all,

I’m a bi 23f from USA. Since I was a child, I’ve had same sex attraction only until I became 12 or 13, when I became attracted to men. But I’ve always had a preference for women then men. When I was 17, I was bi-curious and became more connected to religion. However, I was diagnosed with ocd at 17, and became more religious but had ocd surrounding religion and felt so ashamed I was attracted to women. So I told my family member and she understood that since attraction wasn’t a sin, but the action, she was upset that I liked women and cried. I also felt religious guilt in that and was exposed to beautiful women everywhere and would try to get closer with them. After high school, I started college. During my early years of college, I controlled my urges I would say. And then I went through other ocd themes not related to religion and I became less religious and hateful of certain Muslims and felt a certain way about Islam even though I still practiced. I felt it was restrictive and on top of that, I developed a hate towards men and jealousy as well. I’m 23 now and I’m at a position where I am not ashamed to be bi because I can’t control how I feel. My preference for women became stronger than ever. I understand that the act is a sin and at the same time I can’t help it. I don’t wanna get married. I still like men but the attraction is so small. On one hand, It’s about religion and on the other hand, it’s about being bi. When searching for emotional support from the people around me, when they tell me to act upon it, I’m in conflict, when I’m told to not act upon it cause of Islam, I’m also conflicted. My therapist was so unprofessional and told me not to “feel guilty cause I haven’t acted upon it”. All I needed was therapy advice not religious advice, I’m triggered by the way Muslims preach to me about Islam, makes me far away from it. I yelled at her and she yelled at me back, and I parted ways from her. Please if you have a similar experience, share. No dating requests or trolls.

Connections 33 year old US based male from a Christian background, looking for a loving relationship with a Muslim man.

33 year old US based male from a Christian background, looking for a loving relationship with a Muslim man who is close to my age.

I'm at a point where I crave emotional intimacy more than sex. I'm still working through my complicated history with religion and sexuality and I'm genuinely unsure if sex will ever be part of a relationship for me. I need someone who is okay with that uncertainty and willing to build something slowly, with other forms of intimacy.

I'm drawn to Islam because my values align more closely with it than with other Christian denominations I've encountered. I'm also learning Arabic, so it would be wonderful to practice with someone.

I'm looking for someone who is patient, curious, and willing to explore what a relationship could look like for us even if it doesn't fit the traditional mold.

If this resonates with you, send me a DM.

Question Where to start: are there any Muslim LGBTQ communities or supportive congregations in Jakarta/Indonesia?

Having been very religious, it took me more than 20 years to finally accept myself: that I'm a bisexual Muslim

I need help to unlearn the doctrines, and to connect with like-minded individuals here in Jakarta/Indonesia

How can I find more information about this? Any guidance or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Connections 27 FTM pre-T. Looking for a serious relationship with a man.

Assalamu alaykum brothers and sisters! I am a Korean 27-year-old pre-T FTM who has recently converted to Islam. I believe it is a true religion, so I want to live the rest of my life as a Muslim. And I also want to do the T asap because I want to love my life as my true self- I am a trans gay, which means my gender identity is a male one and my cexual orientation is towards men. Although Muslim community in Korea is not supportive afaik to an individual like me, I want to be true to Allah, be true before Allah, and I don't want to commit zina. I am looking for a fellow Muslim man like me to form a family. Yes, the Korean Govt doesn't allow same-sex marriage now, but I want to marry before Allah's eyes as a man with another man. I will live the best of my life and humbly let Allah be the supreme judge of my soul. And I want to walk that way with a spouse. I am going to work from next month in a small company, and I want my spouse to have a job as I do. I don't care about my spouse's nationality but I prefer non-Korean people. Thank you for reading. I look for serious responses.

Question Is it “easier” for bisexuals?

Hi, I’m a 30 years old bisexual male. I’ve felt that I’m bisexual since I was maybe 13/14, at this time, I didn’t really understand what it means, I started to realize it more when I was 17, but I tried to suppress it due to internalized homophobia/biphobia.
When I was about 22/23, I once again had these feelings and this is when I admitted that I’m bisexual to myself. Some of you might have heard the word bi-cycle, meaning being attracted to one gender more at times than the other, and this perpetuates from time to time.

I’m more of a cultural Muslim, as I’m not very religious and practicing. Still, sometimes I ask myself whether being bi is easier than being gay or if it doesn’t matter, because in the queer community, I often hear about bisexual people being described as not being able to decide or being bi just for the fun of it.

I haven’t been intimate or in a relationship before, and I think I could lead a heteronormative relationship with a heterosexual female, but it would feel as if I’m hiding part of my identity and either completely suppressing it and living in disguise, or being open about it but her not really understanding of the situation and feeling the same. So from a religious and cultural perspective, this would probably be the easiest route with as few obstacles as possible, and I think many people do it this way.

On the other hand, I still have feelings for men (albeit the romantic feelings are stronger towards women), which means that I could also live in a “sinful” way

I get that homosexuals don’t have this “choice”, but does it really mean that life for bisexual people is easier than it is for homosexuals, or do we face the same struggles? Sometimes, I feel as if I don’t really belong to any group tbh, so I would like to hear your perspectives
