Beginner Question Could you help me decide between Kiteboarding and windsurfing?

Hey guys,

I've been sailing a laser for years, but for a long time i've wanted to have a go at either windsurfing, kitesurfing or maybe wing foiling (but less interested in the foil nowadays as i don't think it really fits my location).

The beach where I live has a lot of kitesurfers, but i don't really see windsurfers, though looking online i know they have been there at least.

I'm a bit hesitant to get into kitesurfing though, I'm concerned that i won't be able to do it on my own, is that right? that would really limit how much I can go and make it hard for me to get into it and enjoy it. I also like the idea of the windsurfer being a bit easier to travel with (NOT in terms of gear size of course, i mean that the beach near me is actually the only place i've ever seen kitesurfers, potentially because of restrictions, or maybe just conditions, i'm not sure. Whereas at least with the windsurfer i could go to other places nearby).

I know this is the kiteboarding community, so it's surely somewhat biased towards kiteboarding, but i still think you're the best people to give me an objective opinion as to whether kiteboarding is better for me, or if i should go a different route like windsurfing. I also see windsurfing talked about like an old fashioned sport that's basically been replaced by these new ones, but i don't know, when i look into it, windsurfing looks a lot more fun than wingfoil if you don't have waves.

I'm intending to go to the beach at some point soon and see if i can grab a few of the kitesurfers as they are finishing / starting to ask their thoughts as they know the spot and maybe some things i don't know about why kite is so much more popular than windsurfing here. - I suppose i could try lessons of each one and see whether i like them, but i'm sort of coming at this assuming that both are great, it's more that there's not much point me even wasting time and money on the kite lessons if i can barely even go out after them because it's not safe.

Thanks!

Spot Info/Question Beginner Spots in Mexico Over Christmas

Looking for recommendations for the best beginner spot in Mexico in late December that has the best chance at consistent wind. Flight options are best into Cancun, so leaning towards spots on the Yucatan. I've seen Isla Blanca, Holbox, El Cuyo, or Progresso on other threads. How do they compare at that time of year for a beginner? Any specific school recommendations for lessons? Bonus points for a spot near nice, quiet beaches for non-kiters to hang.

Thanks!

Beginner Question Mixing Bars on Kite brands

Hey Guys/Gals,

I am getting back in to the sport after not kitesurfing for about 12 years, I have bought most of the gear I need to get back up and running again, I did have a hopefully quick question.

One of the kites I bought was a 11m North Orbit 2020 which includes the North Navigator bar, alongside this I am getting a 17m zypher v4 (seeing as I am a big fella and we have lighter winds) However, I note the pigtails are mismatched on the two brands, it looks like I can buy pigtail adapters to change my loops to knots and visa versa. However I seem to read that people say you can just change them on the kite/bar.

So my question, am I missing something really simple or do I need to buy these(not a cost issue only a few $ but if it can be avoided that is better šŸ˜„ )?

Bonus question, I have been thinking back on the old days, can anyone help me figure out what board I used to own? (would have been a 2002-2006 model I guess) https://i.imgur.com/SJs1fcY.png

PS I have taken a refresher course when we were visiting Cape Town again a month ago, so have gone over all the safety systems/changes but did not think of asking about bars, as I did not know what gear I was planning to buy.

Beginner Question Is this setup suitable for a beginner?

Hi everyone,

I’m a complete beginner in kitesurfing by that I mean I never kitesurf. I’m considering buying this used equipment package for 1000 euros

The seller says it was purchased around 2018 and has been very lightly used. The package includes:

  • 2 Ɨ Wainman Hawaii kites
  • Bar with lines
  • Carbon board
  • Harness
  • Original kite bags
  • Large golf/travel bag
  • Spare lines/cords and spare bladders/tubes

The equipment has apparently been stored in a dry garage and protected from sunlight and the elements.

My main question is: would this be a good setup for a beginner?
I have around 92 kg

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm heading there next week on a family holiday, thinking about bringing my gear since there is a bit of wind in the forecast. Anyone ridden there and have recommendations?
