Rant My older sister ran away from home AGAIN after dropping out of university twice, and no one knows where she is

My older sister(25F,called "Janice") and I (20M) fell out.

Janice alitoka high school 2021(think Alliance ,Loreto, Kenya High)with good grades. She then joined KU at 19 in computer science.I was still in high school then

Fast forward to last year. We received wonderful news that ali-graduate from the university with top class honors. My parents were super happy and waliambia all their chamas and jumuiyas and were ready to go all out on her graduation party. However, Janice tells my parents that there was an issue at the university and my mum goes in to check.

(Mimi I had always been suspicious. Alikuwa anatoka kwa nyumba kuenda class 4.30 p.m. alafu anarudi 6 p.m. ati ameenda class hadi siku za exam and she was always in bed, never studied or opened a book. But I was young then,so I figured that's just standard university protocol)

Mum goes in,and turns out that Janice had never attended any classes or sat any exams since 2nd year. Pia hakuwahi fanya attachments. The documents she gave us that indicated her first class honors graduation was forged. She embezzled the 2 million shillings that went into the school fees

When my mum came back home,Janice had already packed her bags and ran away. After staying away for 3 months last year, she comes back home. My parents were disappointed, but they didn't punish her and we're super patient with her. Adi my very military, corporal punishment ,super strict African Catholic mum alikuwa so chill. They let her rejoin the university under a different course that she was allowed to willingly choose, under no pressure or compulsion.

Now today. My parents demanded to see the results of the freshman year of her new DIFFERENT course and the login details of her portal. She attempts another forgery, but my parents instantly see through it na wanamwabia she's full of shit. Even in this new course, she had not been attending classes, despite my father's car from the police(my father works in the govt.) dropping her off to class every day. She ran away AGAIN in August 2026 and has been gone till this day. I study far from home and just got home recently

I spoke to her yesterday and I genuinely cannot STAND how much of a selfish prick she's being. And that girl had the audacity to CRY because"sHe HaD tO sELL hEr iPhOnE 17" and "nO oNe BuYs mE pIzZA"(I'm not kidding, that's what she said) . Ugh. The worst bit is that the parents keep asking me to talk to her penye ako and I told them I can't keep doing this forever . I low-key wanna slap that bitch so bad cause she keeps playing the victim

What could it be? I don't think it's a drug problem. Maybe a phone addiction? Idk. F*ck her

What would you do if you were me?

Discussion Have you ever met someone whose name made you question their parents' decision?

Post image
37 Upvotes

I was paying someone for a service, and when I saw their name, it genuinely got me thinking. Screenshot attached because I need you guys to understand what prompted this.

Do parents ever consider how a name might affect their child as they grow up? I understand wanting your child to have a unique name, or choosing one because it has a special meaning to you, but do parents ever think about how that name might sound or whether other children might use it to bully them?

And I’m not even talking about ordinary cultural names that people outside a particular community might find unfamiliar. I’m talking about names that could genuinely put a child in an uncomfortable position socially, especially when they’re too young to understand or defend the choice.

Surely there has to be some thought given to the fact that this is a name another human being will carry into adulthood. (The person in the ss is a grown woman btw). Parents, have you ever regretted the name you gave your child?

Rant They stole 140bn out of the 250bn Eurobond

I was watching a documentary on the Eurobond saga and I can't believe the same people who stole that money are still in government, some are not ofcourse like UK.

Why were these guys never charged? Niliona UK told the current AG at the time 'ni nini umekosa upatiwe' in a conference. The guy was literally offering to bribe the AG to shut him up.NYS scandal as well nobody was charged kwanza the CS finance Rotich the biggest beneficiary of both scandals should have been the first one to be charged but this is Kenya.

Pesa hao watu wametuibia Kenya would be very far ahead right now. It's quite frustrating coz it seems things will not change it will just be different faces but same kind of looting.

Rant Riding Into A Wave

So this year, I turned 30 and while I prayed that this would be the decade of transformation for me, I didn't envision that we would be slapped with an employment termination end of this year. Turns out our company is going under.

The fact that I've been applying for jobs the better part of this year without even an acknowledgment of receipt does not instill confidence in me that things will get better. It also doesn't help that I'm an IT graduate and everywhere I look, AI seems to be obliterating this field.

Anywho, I'm writing this because closed mouths don't get fed. I have experience as an IT assistant, Kyocera printer technician and tech sales. Any opportunity that you guys could float my way will be greatly appreciated.

Casual My Mum Prefers Boys to Girls

• Upvotes

Hear me out,

It just recently dawned to me that my mother has always preferred boychild to girlchild.

A little background for context,

So we are six in our home, 1 boy, 5 girls. Come to think of it, my mum gave birth looking for another boy. So we have an only boy at home.

I am in my late 20's and the realization that my mum has always favored my brother in our home ilichangiwa na watching too much Chinese,Korean movies, it sort of became an eye-opener.

During our campus days,

They'd pay for his rent, get him new phones every time he claimed it's lost, laptops, we'd only get sorted after all his needs had been met. He also found creative ways to ask money from home, from being arrested, locked out of his house, sleeping hungry, claiming his fees had arrears, all were lies, but mum mostly still found a way to pay for his indulgence. Dad didn't tolerate, but mum even took out a loan just to service his demands.

From my perspective, my mum hoped the son would prosper do well, but now she's seen dust, servicing a 1 million plus loan. My brother claims they did nothing for him, sends them tons of paragraphs about how they are not good parents, he graduated eventually, told my parents he'd never help them, or do anything for them akipata kazi.

My mum, recently said hee, I invested in him lakini wapi let me focus on my girls, nkajua kilimlamba. She used to be my son this, that, sons hivi na hivi, Hadi I told her, kwani are we worthless to you as girls, Ako za unajua traditionally, niliwachana tu na yeye.

She's now investing in my younger sisters, being there for them, previously, ataniambia sina pesa, I'd find casual work only to hear the next day alitumia bro elfu thelatini💀🤧, Mimi nkiulizia pesa maximum mia tatu💀.

I never really paid attention previously, but I am floored by the finding out and realization that hit me.

Sports Doping Crisis in Kenya's Athletics

Since 2017, more than 300 Kenyan athletes, including high profile ones such as marathon champions and world record holders, have been banned or suspended for doping. The Ruth Chepngetich and Peris Jepchirchir ones are just 💔

That's a crisis! If it were another country, I and I believe other Kenyans wouldn't give them a pass and would agitate for a national ban from international competitions.

Our reactions have been sorry and predictable.

- Tunaonewa, ni jealousy (SMH).

- Everyone else does it (maybe so, doesn't make it right though).

- It's sleazy foreign coaches giving our unsuspecting runners these drugs (this is just infantilization and avoidance of accountability).

- It's because we are testing more than others (😞).

- We have baseline more athletes than most other countries, so we're bound to get more people nabbed for cheating (😑)

- We're a poor country and people will take the "any means necessary" route to get the prize money (sure, but a poor country doesn't necessarily have to be a low-trust, corrupt one).

Why is this a relevant issue for discussion, you ask? The cheating sadly speaks to what we're becoming (or we are) as a nation, and our reactions reflect our wider societal tolerance for sleaze and corruption. No wonder alleged thieves, r*pists, m*rderers, and people accused of crimes against humanity at the ICC have been elected to leadership positions low and high. While we loathe and beat up small-time chicken thieves, we elevate and celebrate "successful" high profile ones.

The solution? Just like ending corruption requires severe deep-rooted intolerance to it accompanied by radical action including taking everything from the thieves, public shaming, and life sentences, athletes, coaches, managers, and medical practitioners etc caught in cheating rackets need to be made examples out of.

Rant Matatus are for the strong

Taking matatus late at night is a no. I sat upfront with the driver. His friend got out to give me space to enter then closed the door behind us. His friend ( who unceremoniously removed his shoes and exposed my nose to a smell that was offensive) and he were drinking from a relatively full mzinga of KC. They pour some shots and ask if I want one. I politely decline. TELL ME WHY the driver proceeds to spill liquor on me ( my thigh) and say he will wipe it off. At this point I'm discombobulated beyond words and frozen in fear and shock. He then attempts to wipe my thigh with his bare hand. Him touching me triggered me. I didn't think , I acted. I punched him , insulted him and alighted the matatu in about 15 seconds.

Shame on you enabled sacco. Drunk driving and assaulting women is just the pits honestly.

Casual Unwanted Favorite Pets

I had a gecko that moved into my house of it’s own will ama ilikuwa God-sent sijui. I even named it Angelo for fun and all 😅 He was doing a good job juu I always saw him hunting and eating mosquitoes and cockroaches so the infestation was reducing gradually. Shida sasa ilikuja when Poor Angelo decided to play hide n’ seek chini ya suitcase. So this particular morning, I pulled the suitcase to get some few items of clothing. Kurudisha, napata the poor bastard dead with his head turned at an impossible angle and the most pitiful look ever. I swear I felt this choking feeling kwa throat. That whole week I lamented a lot but he was gone and there was nothing I could do. But it was an accident although unwarranted. I still think about that last look on his tiny poor face. Have you ever wondered where animal’s spirits go when they die? Maybe he’s there enjoying life 🤷‍♂️

Rant Being good-looking but socially anxious is frustrating 😭

This morning, I was looking chic and fit... Black top fitting nicely around the pecs, blue jeans, black shoes. Clean fit, feeling myself a little 😅. ‎

Traversing up a road I usually use for work, ‎... this pretty lady walks towards me in the opposite direction, clearly looking at me, and I suddenly forget what to actually do....Didn't look back, didn't smile, didn't even say hi. Just kept walking looking down like I was literally non-existent. ‎ ‎

Opportunity gone. Internal self-roasting begins.

The frustrating part is that I've rehearsed conversations in my head dozens of times. I've told myself repeatedly that the next time a lady looks my way, I'll at least acknowledge her. I KNOW a simple greeting isn't a marriage proposal. Yet, when the moment comes, my brain apparently deems everything unimportant and freezes like sth tragic's about to happen. ‎

‎Tough contradiction; your appearance might be working in your favour, but your behaviour isn't reflecting the confidence you wish you had 🤦🏾. ‎

‎The thing is, I'm a self-improvement addict. I'm constantly working on my goals and making progress in other areas of my life, but I have to admit, this is one area where I've made virtually no progress despite trying so many times and tbh I don't want to capitulate 😭 ‎

‎I'm literally going to start tracking these situations because this has happened WAY too many times, and I've never managed to beat it. On the road, at work, at the mall, at the gym, restaurants, freaking endless list.

‎So I'm tryna assure myself "Just interrupt the automatic avoidance."

‎ ‎I'm going to start small: eye contact, smiling, greeting people, small talk, and eventually holding actual conversations. A gradual system to build overall social confidence rather than expecting myself to magically transform overnight (imma forget all the scripting cuz with all the rehearsals I've realized nothing works if I can't use them when the need I practiced for arises) ‎

‎Anyway, fellow men, how did you overcome shyness? Because surely I can't spend my entire early twenties looking approachable but behaving like I'm on the most wanted list. ‎

‎Closed mouths really don't get fed fr 😮‍💨 ‎

Discussion iPhones aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.

I used to think iphones were some of the most advanced phones out there till i got my hands on one. For context,i have been using the opposite find 8x ultra since last year June.A friend of mine convinced me to sell him the phone and i was considering buying a vivo x200 and waiting for Samsung’s 30th anniversary before i buy another samsung cause they move mad on their anniversaries. Then i thought to myself why not try out an iphone so I got the 16pm.
First off the flowers. This phone is an absolute powerhouse in terms of hardware and maybe how easy it is to use cause everything that it can do is right infront of your faceand thats that. I’ll give them that.
From there everything else is downhill.Having come from a flagship android device to a apple product is like coming from a performance car and jumping into a tuktuk with a higher rated engine capacity. There are so many apps you cant use on this, same as for sites aswell.Dont even get me started on the customizabilility. This phone lacks down to some of the most basic features that its supposed to have and i don’t even know how they haven’t added all these in the big 26 still. This phone is wildly limiting in what you can actually do with it.I’ll end it at that cause if i start listing all these problems i have with it.The post will get to unreadable lengths.
My two cents:
if you’re a powerhouse user for your mobile devices especially having come from a powerhouse android device don’t even let apple cross your brain.I’m on the third week of owning this phone and I’ve never truly experienced buyers remorse till i got this phone. At its price range IT👏is 👏NOT👏WORTH👏IT👏 get literally anything else.
If you’re just the average user who mostly uses their phones for like communication and entertainment sure go all out.Im convinced iPhones are nothing but a social status boost and that’s that.

Before the apple glazers come for me please understand that if you wanna come, come with facts, evidence and stats.if you can’t don’t even bother, leave the h8 comment and go.

Discussion Banking Chronicles Part 3: When Stealing Was Part of the Job Description

Working at the bank exposed me to more than just banking. I gained career and life experience and met people who introduced me to the vastness of dealings in Kenya. Some bankers used these dealings to build successful ventures. Others ended up on the wrong side of the law. But let me not pre-empt too much.

If you haven’t read my previous posts, you might want to catch up before proceeding.

My first supervisor was a man in his early 40s, he was the cool type of leaders who cared too much about his image and looking like a people’s person than actually helping people and doing the work. It used to be hilarious to me when he walked into the branch with his sunglasses on Saturdays feeling like a hot tamale. There’s not much I can write about him because I was under him for around 3-4 months ivi.

He was the baptism-by-fire type who could watch you drown without lending a hand. He got transferred in my early months. Later, he and the branch manager at his new branch were implicated in a scheme where they “borrowed” upwards of KSh 5 million from the bank vault. That cost him his job.

Then came my second supervisor, a beautiful woman in her mid-thirties, yellow yellow, with an attitude to match. If you met her today, you would be disarmed. She was charming to customers, helpful, and always willing to go the extra mile, even if she would bad-mouth them after they left. She was smart and seemed destined for great things.

The problem was, she was a beautiful thief.

When I first figured out that she was stealing from me, I tried to talk to the other ops lady to see whether she had been suffering the same fate. They had been chummy chummy so I was careful with how I approached the subject. I went like “wah, cash si ni ngumu. Madiff nazo!” She admitted that you can get diffs once in a while but not so much. You should be balancing well everyday, she said.

So that confirmed my suspicion that I was the only one being targeted by my supervisor. Maybe coz I am new, she thinks I am dumb, I concluded. Since that day when I balanced on my own, she never approached to help me balance again. I used to sweat between 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm trying to balance fast enough so that she doesn’t touch my till. For this reason, I got very fast hands and my fingers used to move like lightning while I hand counted cash. You almost couldn’t tell I was a novice. I balanced perfectly for almost 2 months. Her initial shock had waned and this became a way of life. Her attitude had reduced and it seemed she had afforded a small amount of respect for me and how fast I had become good at cash. And life went on.

Until one afternoon.

Around 3:30 p.m., the branch got suddenly busy.

My supervisor handled the bulk (around 3 customers depositing over 5m each) customers. I sorted and confirmed the cash she gave me from them before posting the transactions. She remained at her station while I served the last customer.

By around 4:30 p.m., I was balancing my till when I noticed a diff. But this time, it was an amount that would wake me up from my stupor. 20 Gs!!!!!! And it was an exact figure. I checked the cash going back to the vault, hoping I had missed a bundle of KSh 200 notes. Everything seemed fine. My supervisor noticed my uneasiness.

“Umebalance?” she asked in her familiar high-pitched voice.

“No. I’m missing 20K.”

She looked shocked (pretender). We checked the vault entries, the dollar transactions, and the Western Union payments. Kila kitu ilikuwa sawa.

“Funga till! Weka iyo pesa!” she said casually, closing those big vault books.

The fuck? Nope. Not me. Not this time. “Mi sina iyo doh,” I told her.

“So unataka tufanye?!” she asked.

Being undermined had lit a fire in me after those first few diffs. I had gone back to basics, rereading banking policies and everything I could find in the shared folder. That preparation was about to pay off.

“I want to write an incident report and post it in the PL,” I said flatly. Her face froze. She warned me that Head Office would be at the branch first thing the following morning. I told her I was ready for whatever disciplinary action followed.

“You know I’ll also be in trouble,” she tried again. “Why would you be in trouble? It’s my till that has the difference, not the vault.”

She called another colleague whom she shared dual access to the vault with, and the other operations lady. The three went off to count the vault cash, PR tupu tu! They even emptied and recounted the ATM.

Meanwhile, I printed the incident report and started filling it in. By then, I was mentally preparing for life after being fired. Maybe that was what she wanted. Well, she had won. In my mind, I had already resigned.

It was nearly 7 p.m. I was exhausted, and after counting practically every coin in the branch, they still hadn’t resolved “my” issue.

“Don’t!” she said when I told her I was closing my till and going home. But I was done. I left my till open in the system, a major breach of policy that was unfortunately common back then, and went home. On the way, I called the branch manager(who was new at the time) and explained everything. He told me to wait and said he would address it if the matter remained unresolved the following day.

Next day, I arrived at work expecting to be summoned to his office or kupata watu wa Head Office apo as it was alleged.

Nothing.

I worked as usual. When I balanced my till that evening, it was perfect! To the dot!

I wanted to laugh. I knew that once I insisted on reporting the incident, somehow, somewhere, that money had found its way back.

My supervisor was smart. Actually, most thieves I encountered were smart. Or perhaps cunning is the better word. We worked well after that. After realizing I was not the dumbass she thought I was, she sent me back to the CC desk and would keep me there for a long while.

But another way bank employees made money was through customers, and this would be the beginning of the end for her.

One major account issued cheques and made daily deposits. Because of banking cut-off times, the account needed sufficient funds by around 1 p.m. But sometimes, businesses simply didn’t have the money in time. There were legitimate banking arrangements for such situations, at a cost, of course.

Kenyans being Kenyans, this customer didn’t want to pay the charges. So my supervisor struck a deal with him. She would bank the money he expected to receive, and he would ensure the funds reached the bank by the end of the day.

Risky? Very. It depended entirely on trust, and somehow, it worked for a long time.

But si mnajua siku za mwizi? Head Office eventually caught wind of the arrangement, and that was how my supervisor ended up on compulsory leave pending investigations.

And just like that, the woman who once told me to plug a KSh 20,000 hole in my till was facing questions of her own.

Discussion Sending my mom money is like my favorite part of my days

I remember days where my mom would call for some money and at the time Sina kitu man..the feeling is usually so bad..she rarely do that anyways but you know her calling asking for anything na Niko nayo is usually better than kama Sina .

So much has changed and now she doesn't have to call whenever cause I sort her now and then and it makes me so happy knowing she's not lacking.

I know I can't be the only one feeling this good
