I’m definitely struggling with this late kickoff. As a fan I know I won’t be able to sleep without watching until the end. We’re planning on having a “Husker slumber party”. Snacks and sleeping bags in the living room.

In town for business and ate dinner at Cunninghams (On The Lake) tonight. I was pleasantly surprised. Any other experiences there recently? I will be coming back to Kearney almost monthly moving forward, are there any other experiences to share (recently)

Fall is here. We’re a few days into October. Make sure to post any updates about events and tick or treating.

I know I saw that the pub crawl downtown is the 25th. Haven’t seen much else listed at this time.

Apparently our neighborhood is a hot spot for the door to door people. Political, religious, sales, and anything in between.

We don’t generally answer the door. Sometimes I’ll say something through the doorbell camera if it’s obvious we’re home.

Yesterday I had a political spammer show up and get offended that I wouldn’t talk to her. Nothing they say will sway me so I’d rather watch football and be left alone. She was really pissed when the amazon driver showed up as she was walking away and someone was right there to grab the package.

I’m not trying to be rude but it’s the same as spam calls and texts. I’m not going to answer or respond because it’s a waste of my time.

Does anyone else have a rule they follow when dealing with these people? Any funny stories?

It’s getting to that time of year. Haunted houses and trips to pick pumpkins are quickly approaching. Any local favorites or any recommendations? If you’re part of one, put in a plug for it here.

Personally I would absolutely adore a tram system. Public transportation is something modern cities need and if we want Kearney to thrive we should put it in. Especially down town. I think building up down town into a modern dense city would be great. Unfortunately land is cheap and people are willing to drive. Maybe if gas prices keep up there will be more of a push for public transportation

I know it isn't the most plausible and I imagine kearney is full of NIMBYs but what can ya do

Been kinda shy about posting and forgot to share for Day 1. They got some pretty cool bands playing today. I think Tombstone is one of my current favorite Nebraska Hardcore bands, and This Time After is one of my newer favorites.

The event is lasting from 4-12.

I remember seeing it and thinking that a local con would be cool! However I heard the owner was pretty bad from one of the guests in the Nebraskon discord.

City is putting in all way stops at the intersections that currently have flashing red lights.

The biggest change will be southbound central will had a stop sign at railroad. This means east, west, and south with have stop signs and northbound central will have the right of way.

With the amount of accidents that happen around town, I hope this helps awareness and reduce accidents.

What are some memorable moments that you’ve had living in Kearney? The things that make Kearney special or feel like home.

Examples I’ll use for myself.

Picnics at Harmon park. My aunt would make up some sandwiches and take us to the park. We’d walk through the rock garden and she’d look at all the flowers. Eventually we’d find a shady spot with a picnic table and sit and eat. After we’d get to play on the equipment for a bit. On really special days we’d stop at DQ for some ice cream.

It’s something that I’ve gotten to share with my kids and hopefully someday they’ll share with theirs.

I’ve always had an appreciation for the parks around Kearney. They always seem well maintained and provide a safe place for adults and kids to have a nice afternoon.

The addition of splash pads and upgrades to playgrounds have kept them fun for kids.

What do you enjoy or remember that makes you appreciate Kearney being home?

Who remembers the original Hilltop Mall? I was born in Kearney and my family moved when I was still in diapers. We moved back when my parents decided to open a business in the new mall. I spent a lot of time there in my youth. Had a lot of mall friends. It’s still weird to picture that Amigos and Runza both had restaurants in there. Walmart was a big part of the draw. Herbergers was there for fancy shopping on the opposite end. The toy store was my favorite place to hang out. Munchville had some great treats. Such a different place 40 plus years ago.
