Snagged it from the socials before it was taken down

I love everything I’ve heard from the GTA VI score so far and I’m very hyped for it. But It seems to me that Justice aren't using any samples for the soundtrack of GTA VI.

In my opinion, Justice's microsampling technique gave their music a certain je ne sais quoi. Xavier said they sampled around 400 records on Cross, including a ton of tiny uncredited ones. Genesis has bits of Slipknot, Queen and 50 Cent that are almost impossible to recognize. Sample hunters are still trying to identify every sample they've used years later.

My guess is that clearing that kind of thing is a logistical nightmare for Rockstar. One big sample is doable, but 20 half-second ones in a single track is a different story. It could also just be a creative choice too.

They could always get around it by resampling session musicians or virtual instruments with some lo-fi/vinyl filtering, and they already basically made their own samples on Hyperdrama. It sounds great, but for me there’s a bit of magic in a real sample that’s hard to recreate with homemade samples. For example, the slap bass in the skyscraper shootout in the Extended Look sounds clean and punchy. Compare that to the gritty, chopped feel of Genesis slap bass.

Not trying to start an Old vs New Justice debate. Neverender proves they can go hard without sampling recordsd. I’m just curious if anyone else is hearing this and if y'all like this cleaner sample-free sound.

We know GTA VI is likely going to be the biggest entertainment product launch in history and every art and sound asset in the game goes through rigorous legal/copyright checks.

So is it a creative choice or a restriction imposed by Rockstar games?
I think it's a mix of both, Justice use less samples nowadays and R* probably doesn't wanna deal with licensing issues if the guys decide to sneak in a microsample so they probably check their project files to ensure there's no copyrighted material in there.

To be fair we've only heard 4 score tracks so far (3 in the extended look, 1 collab with Gesaffelstein. Flower In a Hurricane doesn't count as part of the OST) so they might still surprise us but I'm getting a feeling this'll be the direction for the entire soundtrack.

If Rockstar ever puts a Justice show in GTA 6, it’ll look way better than this. Until then… what if the stage was in your living room?

I’ve been rebuilding Justice’s We Love Green 2024 show as a 3D scene, going through the broadcast frame by frame and syncing every light cue to the music. So far I’ve done 23:45 of the set (my favourite stretch), and it also works in augmented reality: you can put the stage on your table with your phone and walk around it. This clip is the first 5:30.

It’s a non-commercial fan project. I’m not affiliated with Justice or Ed Banger; the music and the show are theirs. Before sharing the full AR version I’m reaching out to Ed Banger, because I’d rather do this with their blessing than without it.

Full disclosure: the AR viewer is Painta.me, a platform I’m building, so if it ever goes public it’ll live there, but only if they’re okay with it.

I’d love to know which part of the set you’d want to see next, or anything that doesn’t match how you remember it.

That solo is simply on another level; it's raw, violent, the guitar screams. I'm surprised there are so few videos on YouTube related to Planisphere, considering it's truly Justice's masterpiece.

Personally, I would put it in the top 3 best solos I've ever heard, and I'll be listening to it again soon under the influence of THC with my Sennheiser HD560s and Meze 99 Classics. (I hope I not to die)
