Diamond She said yes!!!
Today was one of the best and most memorable days of my life. We hit the road at 5am to “ride to the mountains to look at the leaves,” but little did she know this was something I had been planning for months. All I told her was that I had a few stops planned for us to see. First we got to Highlands where we visited Dry Falls and Bridal Veil falls. I then drove north to Franklin to visit the Wayah Bald lookout tower, which I heard from multiple sources that it has the best panoramic view of the Appalachian Mountains in the state. At the top of the tower we were at 5,385ft and had a crystal clear view of the mountains in NC, SC, TN and GA. The view was absolutely beautiful, although it didn’t take my breath in any comparable way that happens like when I look into this woman’s eye’s does. For the past week I’ve been a nervous wreck. Losing sleep, nonstop racing thoughts, the what ifs, the excitement, the joy, the uncertainty of the outcome, everything combined was hard to hide, but I did. At 12:04pm, with no one on the tower but the two of us and God, I got down on one knee and asked the love of my life to marry me. She smiled as big as I’ve ever seen her smile, and it was a yes. We took it all in for a little while and started the descent back down the Bald. After a short drive we came along exactly what I was hoping to find soon after leaving the Bald, a picnic table right on the bank of the Nantahala River. I asked her sit and wait in the car with my hoodie over her head so I could set up the last thing I had planned, a small lunch and celebratory toast to us. After lunch we decided to run up to Gatlinburg for a quick pit stop before heading back home. Here’s to us 🥂
