Music Celebrating MACHIKO + Updated Subreddit Rules

Hey y'all ♡

With the release of Joyce's new album, MACHIKO, today, I wanted to take this opportunity to check in, reconnect with the community, and share some updated subreddit rules [see rules tab].

First and foremost, this subreddit exists to celebrate Joyce's music, artistry, and impact as an artist. With MACHIKO finally here, I'd love for this community to be a place where we can share our favorite tracks, discuss the album, appreciate her growth, and connect with others who genuinely enjoy her work.

Over time, however, I've noticed an increase in repetitive posts, content shared without meaningful discussion, and NSFW comments that detract from the purpose of this community. There’s nothing wrong with sharing photos, photoshoots, performances, or behind-the-scenes content - archiving and appreciating Joyce’s work is part of being a fan. However, I’d like this subreddit to be more than just an archive of images, with more meaningful discussions about her music and artistry.

As a woman who created and moderates this community, it's important to me that Joyce is appreciated for the artist she is. There's a difference between appreciating an artist and objectifying her.

Everyone is welcome here, but everyone is expected to respect the purpose of this community. This is about maintaining a space where Joyce is treated with respect and her work receives the appreciation it deserves. These rules aren't meant to discourage people from sharing content or expressing their appreciation for Joyce. They're intended to ensure that this subreddit remains a respectful, engaging community built around her music, creativity, and artistic journey.

With MACHIKO out today, I hope we can give this new chapter the attention it deserves.

Enjoy MACHIKO, and let's keep the focus on Joyce's music and artistry.

Discussion "MACHIKO" Discussion Thread

Since live chats were removed from Reddit years ago (have no clue why they did that), I'll do it this way for everyone to discuss the album in one place once they've listened to it (and many times after that)

I saw a forty-five second clip of this on Devin Morrison's IG story, so I immediately searched for the full rendition, which I thankfully came across. I found this very cool because it shows how far Joyce's music has spread. Not only that, they didn't perform a single, it's a deep cut interlude. Whoever proposed this song to be performed? #Salute

Physicals 'MACHIKO" Upcoming Physical Release

When "Overgrown" dropped, Joyce dropped the physicals legit the Monday after. I never agreed with this, and when artists do it in general for a plethora of reasons. The main reason is you gotta give guys time to take in your album to see if they wanna splash the dough. Luckily, for her sophomore album, she hasn't done this. I don't know when physicals will be released, but she's taking her time with it, thankfully. I'm more thankful cuz if she repeated the same release way as "Overgrown," I was cooked cuz I didn't have bread on the side to blow immediately. I got that bread now specifically for this era when it drops. If you haven't, make sure you gather money ASAP for it so you don't miss out on anything. There are still people to this day that rue the fact they missed the drops of the "Overgrown" CD. She's giving us time to prepare ourselves this time, so make sure you're 100% ready to purchase what you want

Favorite songs off MACHIKO + overall album thoughts?!

Post image

Been listening non-stop for two weeks now, and I need to know: what are our favorite songs off the album?! 😭✨

My Top 5:

1. Catch Me If You Can (feat. JID)
This one is HYPNOTIZING. The feature is perfection, and I love that tug-and-pull R&B collab feeling they create. They play off each other so well, and the storytelling here is everything. I love JID and always enjoy his features (we loveeee “Sandstorm” with Mereba).

2. On Time
WHEW. The melody is just luscious, and Joyce’s voice is so silky smooth. Mack Keane and Joyce Wrice together are chef’s kiss.

3. Dangerous
So fun, so catchy, just an all-around perfect song. No notes TBH

4. Crack the Code
THE SINGLE!! I’m rooting for her to get that Grammy nomination AND the win!! 🏆

5. Fly (Someone You Love) feat. SALIMATA
Got me FLOATING!!

Joyce has leveled up sonically in every way. The album really is so cinematic - it's like a dreamy, retro-futuristic R&B world that somehow feels both nostalgic and completely fresh.

AND JOYCE’S VOCALS?! UNMATCHED. Her tone is so distinct, her voice so clear and effortlessly beautiful - sweet and powerful all at once.

I also love how she weaves her Black and Japanese cultures throughout the entire project, from the sound (Afro-futuristic + R&B) and visuals (Japanese city pop vibes) to the world she’s created around the album. It feels so intentional, immersive, and uniquely her.

Two weeks in, and I’m still discovering new things to love 🥹

What are YOUR top 5?!

Music Joyce’s album openers feel like opening scenes of a movie 🎥

Post image

One thing I really LOVE about Joyce is how cinematic her album openers sound. Both “MACHIKO” and “Chandler” have this lush, orchestral quality to them, especially with those beautiful STRINGS (D’Mile 🔥🔥🔥)

They feel like introductions to an entire world and set the mood for what’s to come.

Does anyone else get this feeling from these two tracks? Any other R&B tracks that have the same feeling?

Also, I LOVE the official visualizer 🎞️
