News Massive Attack's Rob Del Naja was arrested under the UK Terrorism Act for simply holding a sign reading "I oppose genocide - I support Palestine Action" on the eve of Labour Party conference.

What pisses me off is that all of a sudden there are a load of police for some guy just sitting down holding a placard but when my bike gets stolen they couldn’t give a fuck. The police are only there to protect the status quo.

This is getting ridiculous. How is supporting Palestinians an act of terrorism? By this logic, supporting African Americans to enact the civil rights act is a hate crime against white people.
It is one thing to say "I hate israel and it should not exist". But most people here just want to see kids in Gaza not being starved to death. Is it too much to ask that my taxes don't go towards funding concentration camps on the other side of ther world in an act self immolation that ends up benefiting nobody in the end?

UK police only support white nationalist race riots. Also, having hate speech laws isn't the problem. It's stupidity in how those laws are applied to villainize people who stand up for Palestinian human rights. (More often than not, the "anti-Jew" racism comes from people who are anti-Israel BUT who also seem to have no interest in supporting human rights of Palestinians, or are anti-immigrantion, etc).

Del Naja and Massive Attack are true mensches. We saw them in Korea about a month ago, their entire set was dedicated to exposing the Gaza genocide and the complicity of foreign governments in it. They creatively strung their songs into a narrative that ebbed and flowed through some really tough footage and brutal statistics.
It was a real shock to a lot of the festival goers, in a good way I believe. Many were not expecting an outright multimedia political art performance at their summer music concert! Hopefully they took the message home with them.
I remember how happy Del Naja was when parts of the crowd reciprocated the chant after he waved the flag, you could see his face awash with hope. Bless him and the MA collective.
