I'm just going to vent a little bit about JBL changing the rules for this season. Most of you probably don't care, but this is probably better to vent to than the geekswhodrink subreddit.
The big change this season vs last is that total score is the deciding factor vs. winning your game that week (and total points was the tiebreaker). They also allow you to play multiple times during the week to improve your score, with only the highest scoring day count, and you can drop your two lowest scores during the 10 week season.
This has basically turned into "who can play the most during the week?" The current top team has played JBL 22 of the 24 available days this season. With any strategy thrown out the window, you just bet everything on every daily double and hope you get it right. The rules are also inconsistent between venues. Even if you are the quickest to turn in the answer, some hosts try to (or are told to) "spread the control around" and will give up control of the board to other teams. When getting daily doubles late in the rounds is the optimal way to maximize your score, this inconsistency in applying this rule across all venues really matters in the final standings. Not to mention that two of the top 3 teams are in Austin, TX who have access to games 7 nights of the week, which no other metro area has.
Last season wasn't perfect, but it was more in the spirit of Jeopardy. Winning is most important, and score is secondary.

This dad/son duo don’t always show up to Bar Jeopardy! but, when they do, they seem to always get 1st place (and win the $25 gift card).
Multiple teams who frequent the game each week have started to notice that this particular team in question has repeatedly outperformed other players by a substantial margin. Their ‘knowledge’ would span anything from pop culture, to 90’s RnB, to obscure renaissance history, making it nearly impossible for us laymen to hold a candle to their performance. And so, we succumbed to their expertise each time they showed up.
This week, things finally took a turn. The stars aligned so that the culprits were sitting perfectly in our eye-view for this week’s questions. After submitting our own team’s answer, we looked over and saw this team using a search engine and I captured it on video. Looking back, the scores should have spoken for themselves. Now they’re banned.

So, we record the show and are a few days behind . Tonight we started our next episode (#30) expecting to see Anthony Cantor trying to become a 5 day champ. However it was an older episode (that we've seen) showing instead. When we then started the next episode (31) it had a new returning champion (Shannon). Can anyone explain what happened?

Yesterday evening I participated in the 50-question live Zoom test, after taking the Anytime Test a few weeks ago. Just 45 minutes (!) after the Zoom test ended, I got an email inviting me to the next round, the Game Play audition. But I didn't see the email until a few hours later, and by that point, all the audition slots were filled. Will I still get to audition? Has this happened to anyone else?
The email said you should send a reply if there were no available slots that fit your schedule, so I wrote back letting them know. The email also included an application to fill out, as well as a request for a photo, so I sent those both in.
I definitely was not expecting an email invite so quickly. At the end of the 50-question Zoom, the moderator said we might hear back anytime between "tonight" and a year from now. I didn't think I would actually hear back that night! This was my second time doing the 50-question Zoom. The first time, I never heard anything more, so I'm further along than I've gotten before.

so i'm watching the new season of pop culture jeopardy and im wondering what would happen if in the finals, everyone ended on zero. i imagine in regular gameplay, if after double jeopardy everyone had zero, there would just be no final jeopardy. but what if everyone wagered everything and lost, ending on 0?

Here are today's contestants:
Jeopardy!
PARTS OF SPEECH // IN GOOD COMPANY // TV-POURRI // ALL I NEED // IN THIS LIFE OF SIN // IS ME & MY SQUIRREL FRIEND
DD1 - $800 - IN THIS LIFE OF SIN - Famous Phoenician women include this biblical wife of King Ahab--who was not, shall we say, a paragon of virtue (Shannon lost $3,000, dropping to $200.)
Scores at first break: Shannon $200, Karen $900, Jamie $0.
Scores entering DJ: Shannon $4,200, Karen $2,000, Jamie $400.
Double Jeopardy!
THE WORLD LEADER'S HAIKU // GETTING YOUR "B.A." // AMERICAN BODIES OF WATER // COMING UP SHORT // PLEASING POETRY // CONTROVERSIAL MOVIE VILLAINS
DD2 - $2,000 - COMING UP SHORT - The Roman numerals for 1900 can also be used as an abbreviation for this design style that emerged in the 1900s (Karen dropped $4,000 down to $5,600 vs. $7,000 for Shannon.)
DD3 - $1,600 - THE WORLD LEADER'S HAIKU - One-kid policy / Took 1930s Long March /Mao, then Hua, then him (Two clues after DD2, Karen lost $2,000 down to $4,000 vs. $7,000 for Shannon.)
All three DDs were missed, helping create a low-scoring game in which Shannon led into FJ at $8,200 vs. $4,800 for Jamie and $3,600 for Karen.
Final Jeopardy!
TRIBUTES - To honor the 126th birthday of this Nobel Prize winner, a Google Doodle featured a cat & a feline ghost
Shannon and Karen were correct on FJ. Shannon added $1,401 to win with $9,601 for a two-day total of $25,601.
Final scores: Shannon $9,601, Karen $6,900, Jamie $1,399.
Correct Qs: DD1 - Who is Jezebel? DD2 - What is mid-century modern? DD3 - Who was Deng Xiaoping? FJ - Who was Schrödinger?
r/Jeopardy • u/SMAAAASHBros • 1d ago
As a reminder, here were the scores going into FJ:
Shannon: $12,000
Anthony: $8,000
Ajin: $3,200
Anthony ended up betting zero, which people seem to agree was a correct bet: he had exactly two-thirds of Shannon's total, a cover bet would risk him falling behind Ajin, and he presumably needs Shannon to miss anyway, so if she makes a cover bet and misses he wins.
But I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about what Shannon should have bet. If we assume Anthony made the correct bet, that raises a lot of possibilities about what Shannon should have bet. Should she have bet $4,000 (if he bets zero, she goes to a tiebreaker if she misses and if he bets it all and both get it right they go to a tiebreaker)? Should she have bet $4,001 (cover bet, but she falls behind if he bets zero)? Should she have bet zero or $1? I think there are arguments for all of these, and possibly even other bets, so I'm curious what people think.

So, which of the potential SCC players might be the next Juveria Zaheer, Drew Goins, Will Yancy, Michelle Tsai, Ryan Sharpe, or Long Nguyen? How many spots will be given at the next SCC: 18 or 27? (I decided to add another layer of consideration: buzzer attempts).

Twice so far this season, there have been answers that correctly stated “what was the Cuban missile crisis?” And both times, at home, I shouted “what was the Bay Of Pigs?”.
And I wonder if “Bay of Pigs” would also have been accepted?
Edit: never mind - I thought they were the same event, for whatever reason. Never bothered to look it up until today. Thanks for the education, fellow trivia-heads!

I have always wondered if Jeopardy could have been a different kind of game by providing slightly different answers. The point of Jeopardy is that the contestants are given an answer and they have to reply with a question. In a typical trivia show they would ask:
Which sprinter set the 100m world record ?
In Jeopardy they would say:
This sprinter set the 100m world record.
And expect “who is Usain Bolt”. This is basically just a grammatical difference, not in terms of difficulty or gameplay. It makes sense, they want to guide you to a specific question. However it could be a much more interesting and special game if they just said:
9.58s
and let the contestants with knowledge of the category figure out what it could refer to.
Obviously the issue is, that this could be an answer to multiple questions, which is probably why they are more specific. But if they leaned into the ambiguity and creativity, this could be an awesome game. Some more ideas.
”Chris Rock, and it hurt quite a bit”
“By taking the blue pill”
“Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Kurt Cobain”

One of the answers was “Spanish pronoun 2 letters”. Unless it’s a gimmick crossword, minimum word length is always 3 letters. Anyone else think that was a poorly constructed answer? Or am I being pedantic?

love the show and have been watching it for years. I used to be able to get maybe 65-70% of the questions, sometimes more on a good night. lately I feel like the contestants on the old SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skit. Anyone else feel like this?
