Help!

I have been getting back into my retro, nerdy tech hobbies, and just found my old 2008 iPod classic. I didn’t realize that people were retrofitting these to be used in modern day and really like the idea of possibly doing that to this. Any ideas on what the first good steps are? What are considered “tasteful” updates/upgrades and what aren’t. Thanks for any help.

I have the exact same iPod. I just exchanged the 120GB HDD with an iFlash uDual with a SanDisk 1TB card and a ‘3000mAh’ battery (they sell them as 3000mAh batteries on eBay, they aren’t actually 3000mAh though)

I fucked up a bit while flashing and had some big problems (didn’t read the guide fully and made stupid SysCfg changes), I strongly recommend you to keep the iPod opened while you’re going through the process of a firmware upgrade, as I have managed to get myself into a situation where I had to pull out the SD card. If you run into any issues hit me up, there’s a quite high chance I’ve been there before. Generally if you follow the guide word-to-word you shouldn’t have any issues though.

Start by reading the Yuuiko Guide and Opista Guide. Both can be found using the handy search feature in this subreddit.

Next, watch YouTube videos on modding/upgrading parts.

Yes or yes, just a new battery with a larger capacity and change your mechanical disc for SSD, so I can enjoy this beauty, yours is just like mine, that’s how beautiful.

Iflash mod and new battery if you like add a new front shell, lots and lots of research. Triple check what you’re going to do watch three different YouTube videos to make sure it’s what a few people do and not someone who got it wrong.

I bought a new casing that matches the original silver/white. The back looks fantastic but has no printing on it, unfortunately. But this is what I think is “tasteful”.

For the internals, I ordered a dual SD card adapter and a 3000mA battery, waiting for those to arrive.
