Discussion Why does everywhere online have to have games now‽

I don’t get it. I go to Reddit to talk about various things, I go to Netflix to watch movies and tv. Why do both of these places have games available? Does anyone actually play them‽

I’m so tired of this bs. Like every single website requires Cloudflare verification. I’m not even using a VPN. It makes web browsing so slow

My idea for a new rule of the internet

Rule 1: You don’t talk about /b/.

Rule 2: You DON’T talk about /b/!

Rule 3: We are Anonymous.

Rule 4: We are legion.

Rule 5: We do not forgive, we do not forget.

Rule 6: Anonymous can be a horrible, senseless, uncaring monster.

Rule 7: Anonymous is still able to deliver.

Rule 8: There are no real rules about posting.

Rule 9: There are no real rules about moderation either — enjoy your ban.

Rule 10: /b/ is not your personal army.

Rule 11: No matter how much you love debating, keep in mind that no one on the internet debates. Instead they mock your intelligence as well as your parents.

Rule 12: Anything you say can and will be used against you.

Rule 13: Anything you say can and will be turned into something else.

Rule 14: Do not argue with trolls—it means they win.

Rule 15: The harder you try, the harder you will fail.

Rule 16: If you fail in epic proportions, it may just become a winning failure.

Rule 17: Every win fails eventually.

Rule 18: Everything that can be labelled can be hated.

Rule 19: The more you hate it, the stronger it gets.

Rule 20: Nothing is to be taken seriously.

Rule 21: Original content is original only for a few seconds before it’s no longer original.

Rule 22: Copypasta is made to ruin every last bit of originality.

Rule 23: Copypasta is made to ruin every last bit of originality.

Rule 24: Every post is always a repost of a repost.

Rule 25: Whether you like it or not A.I. is here.

Rule 26: Whether you like it or not A.I. art is here and it’s everywhere.

Rule 27: If you make A.I. art you are not an artist you’re a commissioner.

Rule 28: There will always be bots.

Rule 29: On the internet men are men, women are also men, and kids are undercover FBI agents.

Rule 30: Girls do not exist on the internet.

Rule 31: Tits or GTFO—the choice is yours.

Rule 32: You must have pictures to prove your statements/Anything can be explained with a picture.

Rule 33: Lurk more—it’s never enough.

Rule 34: If it exists, there is porn of it. No exceptions.

Rule 35: If there is no porn of it, porn will be made of it.

Rule 36: No matter how fucked up it is, there is always worse than what you just saw.

Rule 37: You cannot divide by zero, because the calculator says so.

Rule 38: No real limits of any kind apply here—not even the sky.

Rule 39: CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL.

Rule 40: EVEN WITH CRUISE CONTROL YOU STILL HAVE TO STEER!

Rule 41: Desu isn’t funny. Seriously guys. It’s worse than Chuck Norris jokes.

Rule 42: Nothing Is Sacred.

Rule 43: The more beautiful and pure a thing is—the more satisfying it is to corrupt it.

Rule 44: If it exists, there is a version of it for your fandom… and it has a wiki and possibly a tabletop version with a theme song performed by a Vocaloid.

Rule 45: When one sees a lion, one must get in the car.

Rule 46: The internet is SERIOUS FUCKING BUSINESS.

Rule 47: The pool is always closed.

Rule 48: The only good hentai is Yuri, that’s how the internet works. Only exception may be Vanilla or Tomboys.

Rule 49: No matter what it is, it is somebody’s fetish.

Rule 50: A Crossover, no matter how improbable, will eventually happen in Fan Art, Fan Fiction, or official release material, often through fanfiction of it.

Rule 51: If it exists, someone has shipped 明天 it with something else. No exceptions.

Rule 52: The comment section is always worse than the post.

Rule 53: Every meme dies, but only after it’s been beaten to death.

Rule 54: Your data is not your own; it’s everyone’s business.

Rule 55: Algorithms know you better than you know yourself.

Rule 56: Cancel culture strikes without warning—lurk before you post.

Rule 57: Crypto will moon, or it will rug pull. There is no in-between.

Rule 58: NFTs are just expensive JPEGs, but someone will always buy them.

Rule 59: The metaverse is coming, whether you’re ready or not.

Rule 60: VR headsets make everything weirder.

Rule 61: Chuck Norris is the exception, no exceptions.

Rule 62: It has been cracked and pirated. You can find anything if you look long enough.

Rule 63: For every given male character, there is a female version of that character (and vice-versa). And there is always porn of that character.

Rule 64: If it exists, there’s an AU of it.

Rule 65: If there isn’t, there will be.

Rule 66: Everything has a fandom, everything.

Rule 67: 90% of fanfiction is the stuff of nightmares.

Rule 68: Everything has a fandom, everything.

Rule 69: Nice!

Rule 70: Do not talk about the 100M GET failure.

Rule 404: Rule not found.

Rule 72: If a song exists, there’s a Megalovania version of it.

Rule 73: Every app update breaks something you liked.

Rule 74: Dark mode is superior; light mode users are suspects.

Rule 75: Password requirements ensure you’ll forget them all.

Rule 76: Two-factor authentication is your friend until it locks you out.

Rule 77: The Internet makes you stupid.

Rule 78: The internet makes you smart.

Rule 79: If something is popular, there’s brainrot of it.

Rule 80: If something is popular, and there’s no brainrot of it, it’s coming soon.

Rule 81: Gore is always present on the internet.

Rule 82: If something has two colors, it can play “Bad Apple!”.

Rule 83: Don’t fuck with The Internet Archive.

Rule 84: Don’t fuck with Steam Support.

Rule 85: You will be bullied; it’s just a matter of when.

Rule 86: Doomscrolling is inevitable; resistance is futile.

Rule 87: Influencers are selling something—always.

Rule 88: Viral challenges are 10% fun, 90% hospital visits.

Rule 89: Emojis can ruin or save any statement. 😎

Rule 90: The internet never sleeps, but you should.

Rule 91: Conspiracy theories multiply faster than facts.

Rule 92: Fact-checking is optional; outrage is mandatory.

Rule 93: Every platform eventually unshittifies, or shuts down.

Rule 94: Privacy settings are an illusion.

Rule 95: If it’s free, you’re the product.

Rule 96: Bots are evolving; soon they’ll rule us all.

Rule 97: Memes are the true currency of the internet.

Rule 98: Everything trends, then fades—except cat videos.

Rule 99: The end is near, but there’s always more internet.

Rule 100: There are no rules after 100. Or are there?

Rule 101: There are

Rule 167:"If there a porn art of a character there a SFW version"

Question Is sidewalk bore installation a big deal?

I live in an HOA condo, ranch home type unit. I thought I'd have a simple Astound internet install.

But turns out in addition to the hole needing to be drilled into my siding, the coax cable needs to be run from the box that's in my neighbors yard (25 feet away) across the common yard and a common sidewalk.

Astound says they'll have the line running over my sidewalk temporarily until they come back in a week to bury it.

Is this typical, or something that's considered very involved?

I don't want to get hit with any HOA fees, issues or liability. Astound said their equipment, their liability & financial responsibility, I pay and am responsible for nothing.

I'm going to submit for HOA approval, but I'm still concerned about any trouble that can happen.

What am I doing wrong with this simple ethernet F to M cable??

Hello everyone, could someone please help me and give me an advice about what am I doing wrong with this simple ethernet connection?

I have a cable trough the wall and need to have it as a main source of ethernet for the rest of the rooms. It starts as a wall-mounted female port which converts to a male one that goes to another router to split the ethernet. However, I am struggling to make it work.

The pictures are tests I was doing to figure out what the correct color combination should be but it seems to not be working regardless of how I connect it. I am using a CAT 6A cable and the ports are also CAT 6 compatible.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not a networking expert, but I built a browser-based cyberspace out of live BGP data

hello, I'm a hobbyist developer, still learning how the internet's plumbing works.

I thought, "Wouldn't it be fun to walk through the structure of the internet as a space instead of a map?" and "Wouldn't it be fun to visit pages starting from an IP address?" So I built RAW, a cyberspace that runs in your browser. I made it myself, so this is my own project.

- Real BGP activity from RIPE RIS Live, shown in real time

- Each AS gets its own node; the lines between ASes get thicker with the number of peers

- Lists like Spamhaus are layered on top to show the network's dark side (Shadow Layer)

- Only when you press the button, it highlights your path through the routing table (an estimate based on BGP tables, not a measured route)

It also has some stories about the internet, written with AI's help.

I'm learning as I go, so if I've got any terminology or interpretation wrong, please point it out.

And if you could see one thing about the internet drawn as a space, what would it be?

World Dependence on the Internet

....If it stayed out, how long would it be before you went around and tried to find out what was REALLY going on......a day? 2 days?

Governments and Musk have already played their parts in flicking off the Internet when it suits them, but whether it be due to their political agendas, or it goes down permanently (out of the govt's control), it wont be long (1 or 2 days) before people begin absolutely begin losing their minds ....

Is there any use to even make a plan...I always thought preppers would maybe last a week before somebody comes to take their shit.

"At bottom, you see, we are not Homo sapiens at all. Our core is madness. The prime directive is murder. What Darwin was too polite to say, my friends, is that we came to rule the earth not because we were the smartest, or even the meanest, but because we have always been the craziest, most murderous motherfuckers in the jungle."

~Cell, Stephen King (good book btw, and also a possibility)

Question Repeated 1/100000 chance attempts adding up. Is this not a vulnerability?

Someone has been trying to get into an account similar to a Microsoft account or a Microsoft account.

For years, I mean years, I have received codes I never requested that claim I or someone else requested it for a password change. However, it is not every day. They've started again. They don't have my password but it is much easier to crack a code that only runs from 000000 to 999999 instead of cracking a password that runs from "FRLG.ips" to "Serial$$36Lain1188".

Because they send so many, it appears their attack method on me, and on others, is to just keep sending the code and entering in a 6-digit code blindly until it matches with the code sent to me which they are incapable of accessing. In other words, they could keep entering the code 804404 until the code in my emails is indeed 804404.

How can this be stopped? How can a company, Msft, stop this?

The probability of only one attempt is 1/1000000. However, if they keep doing it, which they are, the probability (independent of prior failed attempts) of their serial attempts on the next day is actually 1/80000. This means if they have 20000 targets at once, and attack for the following four days in a row, they should succeed in getting access to around one account. How can this be stopped?

Question What should a regular broke person with basic tech and no crimes to cover up be doing right now given today’s events?

I have such a novice understanding of tech—my phone and computer might as well be magic in my mind. I’ve got my emails, my drive of documents and photos in Google, a bank account… I don’t feel particularly vulnerable but obviously I’d like to be safe. What simple actions could I take right now to insulate myself from the potential fallout of the vulnerabilities exposed today?
