opinion post The grave mistake I believe that most of you make when it comes to scaling
You know after spending this long in this subreddit in particular constantly seeing takes like "Akiyama > Baku v high diff" or "Johan > Friend extreme diff" or "Tokuchi > Canon L" or whatever the hell, I've begun to wonder why people have these takes in the first place and why it's so hard to convince them otherwise, if not for a lack of knowledge.
To keep it brief, I think y'all scale based on how hard a character's feats are for YOU to understand, not how impressive they actually are
I mean it explains why most people have Akiyama and Baku close, when in actuality they're not close at all. It's because people read those two mangas and the cognitive effort it took for them to understand both characters feats were around the same. This also explains why methodology is a method of scaling that took off in the first place despite it not making any sense to scale intellect by that metric, it's just a way for people to rank convoluted feats that they themselves find hard to understand irrespective of where it actually scales. I mean, it takes a lot more effort to understand something like Forced Rotation (lol) than it does "He stopped WW3 at age 8" (Canon L feat)
But which feat actually scales higher? Obviously Canon L's by leaps and bounds, the implications of that one simple sentence in terms of intellect easily eclipse Yokoya's due to it's framework and the sheer logistics required to make that feat possible. Yet for the longest time people took feats like those and gave them labels like "unrealistic" as a means to arbitrarily dismiss those feats as "not counting" for literally no reason other than they personally didn't like it. Why? Because it was easy for them to understand, therefore it can't actually be counted as smart
Suffice it to say, this is a terrible way of measuring characters intellect in any objective manner but I don't think anyone does this on purpose, I think it's something y'all just unconsciously do or otherwise just have a bias towards characters you find hard to grasp. I mean this is a community all about the love for smart characters so the characters that make you the reader feel smart along with them are obviously gonna be more favored. And that's perfectly ok, it's completely fine to love characters like that and even be biased for them, only you cannot claim they're smarter than characters with comparatively easier to understand feats yet still actually scale higher once you take everything into account
