Plant Discussion Six months on a moss pole 😍

Thumbnail gallery

This maturing baby was rescued and reduced to a few £s, from Tesco on a coir pole in April. A couple of months of research and three vines out of six were placed on this moss pole. The growth rate has been astonishing!

- Water twice per week with half strength fertiliser

- Lighting is a Barrina T10 Pro on for 14 hours per day

- Spa day in the shower once per month with just water, to flush out any lingering fertiliser build-up

All of this inspired by Sydney Plant Guy, so props to him!

It's just been an absolute joy giving life back into this gorgeous thing over the past few months. I hope I'll have a good level of maturity at the top of the next extension.

My only concern is the asymmetric growth between the two main vines. Any thoughts or ideas how to deal with this? 🤔

Houseplant Close Up Household Water Use, Rainwater Harvesting & Urban Gardening

Hi everyone!

I’m a design student researching household water usage, rainwater harvesting, and urban gardening. I’m trying to understand how people manage water in their everyday lives, including water shortages, rainwater collection, household water reuse, and watering plants.

I’ve put together a short survey and would really appreciate it if residents could spare a few minutes to share their experiences. Your responses will help me better understand the challenges and practices surrounding household water management.

Survey link: https://forms.gle/YJjez2uptWqG2Pf96

If you have any thoughts or experiences related to this topic, feel free to share them in the comments as well!

Thank you for your time and for helping with my design research.

Plant Discussion Indoor herb garden that's cat proof?

Hi y'all, wanted to ask if anybody on here has any experience/ideas regarding a small indoor herb garden that maybe has some sort of lid? I'm wanting to get an herb garden for my girlfriend, but their cat has an insatiable lust for eating plants. I'm talking as soon as i bring flowers into the house, I can't even set the vase down before he tries to eat them; any fancy plants are consumed within a week 🥲 If anyone has any ideas for me, please let me know, or if I should just accept the loss, lol

Plant Discussion Prayer plant keeps flowering and not producing leaves

I have one prayer plant that keeps consistently putting out flowers but not growing new leaves while the one beside it has never flowered and keeps growing new leaves?
I just repotted the one that’s putting out flowers and I was hoping it would fill with leaves because I was worried about potting up too soon. Is there a reason why they are growing differently in the same conditions?

Product Discussion How do you label your plants without ruining the aesthetic of your indoor garden?

Post image

I have around 25 indoor plants, mostly basil, monsteras, anthuriums, and a few others. I've already switched most of my pots to simple neutral-colored ceramics, but the labels have always looked terrible.

I used to use those little white plastic plant markers with a permanent marker. After a few rounds of watering, the writing would smear or turn into a blurry mess. And my handwriting is honestly not great, so having a bunch of them together made everything look even more chaotic. Recently I tried using a Niimbot label maker instead and put laminated labels directly on the sides of the pots. They've held up surprisingly well so far, water and wiping don't seem to bother them.

The part I still haven't figured out is the design. I keep changing the font size, label width, and spacing, and I can't seem to find a layout that looks clean without making the labels feel too big.

Maybe I just haven't found the right label material either. What kind of label paper do you all use?

Product Discussion Pot size help

Post image

Hello, I am looking to grow herbs indoors, and I do not have any large pots. I do have these seed starting pots, and I was wondering if I could grow any herbs in this size container. If so, what herbs / other veggies could I grow? If not, what size is recommended?

Full Room Shot Help me design/organize my sad plant corner into jungle vibes

I need ideas for how to style my plant corner. Plant stand ideas. Organization ideas. Right now it just looks…flat? My FLF is typically in the window corner, it was moved temporarily while dealing with thrips but planning to move back. The large monster also used to be in that corner but I think I’m gonna keep her where she is. I know I need some taller vertical plant stands to create some height differences and flow but I just can’t envision it lol. And also can’t find any that don’t look tacky. Home design/decor is not my strong suit 🤣

I am using the Click & Grow ‘Grow Anything’ pods to start a Jalapeno plant. I noticed white spots on the soil and and lower part of stems. Is this mold? How do I fix it?

Plant Discussion How do i get rid of fungus gnats!!

Hello!

My partner and I repotted a bunch of house plants a while ago and since then have been dealing with fungus gnats. Initially, we put sticky traps on almost all of them and put 2 on the trouble ones.

These filled up pretty quickly so we did some research and used nematodes on all of them. They reduced, but were still about, so we did another 2 rounds of nematodes (this cost us £30-£40 total🥲). This also didn’t work.

About a week ago, we put a thick layer of gravel (pic attached) on all of the plants we have (at least 25) and stopped watering them to try and dry them out a little (the ones that we NEEDED to water were watered from the bottom up.

We’ve already had to chuck out one of our beloved plants because it was so bad. I’m getting SO sick of them flying around my face, I feel like they’re flying up my nose, I can’t go to the toilet without them flying around me (it’s not lots, just a couple) but OH MY GOD they’re so annoying.

Help me please, i’m on the brink of throwing all my plants away but there is no chance my gf will let me😪

Plant Discussion Eggs or air roots?

Thumbnail

I kind of freaked out first thinking they are pest eggs and cut the one w so much of these things, but then thought it might be something else.

I see on other posts some are air roots and others are eggs, which to me looks very similar so thought it would be best to ask for opinions before I cut the rest!

Im a bit paranoid bc i am growing cuttings from which i got outdoors.

I bought these bougainvilleas last year and have been caring for them indoors ever since. They’ve bloomed three times this past year—what a pleasant surprise!
