simple timeline, humanity here is mostly a collection of soulless races:
magic is effectively wiped off by humanity, as children of humans do not inherit souls
after centuries of no magic in the world (except for one place), some people start cults to worship dead pantheons and start doing terrorism
some of the rituals work and bring some people in the world who can do magic, this scares the shit out of most nations who then start to regulate their existence

some races have animal traits yeah, she in particular is a daemonfolk. normal baseline humans are called Tallmen, if you are interested I have a species chart somewhere in my posts

post-fantasy world where magic is wiped out by the 1800s on the main continents, lore is very long and hard to explain so i might write a separate post for it.
