Today I’m drawing the Vermont Pigman, a creature said to lurk in the woods around the town of Northfield. He’s described as walking on two legs, covered in pale hair, with the body of a man and the face of a pig.
Over the years. The Pigman became associated with an area outside the town known as the Devil’s Washbowl, a place of streams, caves, and moss covered rocks.
His origin story differs depending on who’s telling it. Some suggest he’s the result of a secret science experiment attempting to combine humans and pigs. Others say he was a local boy who disappeared and somehow ended up living in the woods. In another version, he was normal man transformed into a pig-like creature after a deal with the devil gone wrong.
Personally, I have a lot of questions about the Pigman. Is he more pig than man, or more man than pig? Does he enjoy wallowing in mud, or does he prefer a nice hot shower? If he stands too close to a campfire, does it smell like bacon? I realize that these are the kinds of questions that probably explain why the Pigman prefers to live in the woods.
