Help Restore iPhone app data

Please help, I’m not a tech-savvy person.

My daughter has a coloring app on her iPhone. She’s been working on the pages in this app for months. The app got deleted and when we redownload the app, the data isn’t restored. Her phone was backed up to the cloud two hours before this.

We’ve never backed her phone up to a computer though, so I don’t know how to retrieve the back up from the cloud.

Two things before anything else:

  1. Turn off iCloud Backup on her phone for now (Settings > her name > iCloud > iCloud Backup). iCloud only keeps the latest backup, so if the phone backs up again tonight, the one with her pages gets replaced.

  2. Check whether the coloring app has its own sign-in or "restore progress" option. Many save to an account, which is much easier than a full restore.

If not, restoring the backup means erasing the phone: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings, then choose Restore from iCloud Backup during setup and pick the one from two hours before. The phone goes back to that moment, so anything newer that isn't already in iCloud would be lost. The spare iPhone/iPad idea avoids that.

one distinction matters while you're protecting that backup: don't turn off the coloring app in the backup's app list. apple says that removes that app's saved backup data. that's different from pausing automatic backups for the phone.
