General World Thyroid Day & National Brothers Day.....To honor my Brother, Sign my Petition for Better Thyroid Care

Hi, all. Today (May 24) is National Brothers Day, and tomorrow (May 25) is World Thyroid Day.
In the spirit of both days, please sign & share my petition for better thyroid care--in my brother's memory. My brother Jordan was a great big brother, and like so many of us, he deserved a lot better thyroid care than he got. He should've been diagnosed a lot sooner than he was and given better treatment all around--including better medicines. The lack of good thyroid care for too long led to his downfall, and I believe to his liver failing (he didn't even drink to have a bad liver).

Because of all this, plus my bad thyroid experiences and that of my mom & others, too, I continue to work on my thyroid petition called, "Thyroid Patients Need Better Treatment NOW" on Change dot Org.
We are getting close to 9,000 signatures....Let's get there & beyond, and I am still working on other stuff to get more attention to this petition, too, so maybe in the near future it will help us make progress. Please sign it (if you haven't already) and share the petition, too.
https://www.change.org/ThyoidBetterTreatment

Petition asks for better and earlier testing of both low and high thyroid (including the antibodies tests for Hashimoto's and Graves' Diseases which hit my family badly), better and more innovative treatments, more research, and better training on all things thyroid for doctors, so they can help us better. It'd mean a lot to get more support for this thyroid petition, and I can think of no better way to honor my brother Jordan for both National Brothers Day and World Thyroid Day than to make this petition successful, sooner than later. Please help in whatever ways you can. Thanks.

From Jordan's sister, SD-starr7 (Starr D)

Discussion Thyroid drug makers should make sublingual tablets

A lot of people take it that way and it would make it dissolve much quicker and just be easier tbh. Why haven't they started making sublingual tablets? Its 2026 not 1956 lol.

General Dry cracked feet/heels?

Does anyone else have terribly dry cracked heels? Sometimes I think it’s just me because I rarely wear socks. Only really in winter. Wondering if it’s just apart of being hypo too 🙃🙄cause I could get a pedicure tomorrow and have dry feet by next week

Hashimoto's Hard hunger crises

Hello, English is not my native language so please excuse the possible mistakes.

I’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto 10 months ago. I am eighteen, and had symptoms for 2 years or sometime like that. My appetite, before my treatment, was very low. With the years it kept decreasing. I’ve started taking Levoryroxine, 10 months ago. Since then it’s been hell.

Ihave a lot of hunger crises. I know I do not eat that much, but 30 minutes after my meal, my belly start hurting like hell. I almost feel like vomiting from hunger. And mentally I feel like it’s impossible I feel so much hunger when I’ve just ate. So I wait, and I am more sick. But even when I force myself to eat, I just feel really really anxious and get a lot of acid reflux. Fun fact is that I’ve never vomited from it. NEVER. But I always feel weak, and I am scared of eating too much when I have episode like that.

I’ve tried reducing gluten, lactose… it does not work. Overall I’ve gain a lot of issues with my stomach since I’ve been using that med.

I don’t gain weight obviously, and my results are good overall. I don’t know what do to. Someone has lived the same, or has some tips to help ?

Labs/Advice TSH up from .08 to 4.73 after med decrease - high insulin and blood sugar

• Upvotes

I just wanted to share that my A1C has been 4.5 or less for years and my blood sugar 85 or so as well.
I’ve never had any issues with insulin resistance.

In 2024 I lost 88 lbs with the help of tirzepatide. Because of the loss I guess my thyroid meds needed adjusted because 4 mos ago after losing my TSH was way down to .08 and I was feeling very jittery so we lowered my meds from 125 mcg to 100 mcg. Now, 4 mos later sadly, my TSH is 4.73.

Know what else is off? My blood sugar and insulin fasting blood sugar is 100 (usually in the 80s) and my insulin was 21.9 (usually below 10).

Waiting to hear back from doctor on how much she wants to increase my meds. At least now I know why I’ve been sluggish and grouchy. I also had my period twice this month and have been bleeding or spotting for the whole month.

Congenitial/Athyroid Born without thyroid. I feel so awful all the time and endos aren't understanding (21F) (vent?)

I was born without a thyroid (and some other birth traumas) . it was diagnosed very early after birth, and doctors always said as long as i took my levothyroxine every day that everything would be fine. I ended up with lots of delays (learned to walk very late, speech impediment, learning delays) I’m diagnosed with Autism, Dyspraxia, ADHD, but also have learning difficulties that aren’t necessarily linked to those. (my reading and processing times are very slow, coordination is always off, brain fog)

My weight has been unstable my whole life, i went from skinny to heavy very fast in childhood and never really lost the weight. this wasn’t helped by teenage mental health issues, and i ended up at nearly 300LBS (im losing it slowly now.) My endocrinologists i talk to always seem to be concerned about losing weight via GLP-1s rather than focusing on thyroid treatments, which seems weird because i consistently report symptoms of hypothyroidism and my dose is upped a little but it never seems to help.

I’m so fatigued all the time. my weight is so unstable and i’m so irritable. my brain feels like it’s mush all the time!! my libido is non existent and has even my whole life. I don’t know what to do at this point. i’ve done research and almost every single one of my issues seems to point to my mix of pcos and congenital hypothyroidism . I’m not really sure how to advocate for myself to doctors and explain all of this in a comprehensive way.

Discussion Any suggestions for taming the Mad Professor Hair?

Hey y'all! I live in Austria. As the heating kicks in, I'm seeing a real increase in the "mad professor hair". I'm walking around like someone rubbed a balloon on my head and I hate it! Additionally I'm taking Vit D to combat hair loss, so I have a lot of baby hair that sticks straight up. So my question is, are there any things I can try to tame the frizz? Products, natural remedies, whatever. I am Mediterranean and generally have fine and very straight hair, not frizzy in itself, other than due to hypothyroidism.

I generally like to avoid products like hair gel, because I distrust cosmetic companies, and again I want to use as mild products as possible to prevent further hair loss (shout-out to the DM brand Balea Med sensitive shampoo! It worked wonders at the beginning!). However if anyone can vouch for any safe and good quality products, I am willing to try 😌

Labs/Advice High T4, normal TSH?

T4 22.2 (11-23)

TSH 1.4 (0.27-4.5)

What does this mean? I am still losing weight (though it has slowed waaaaay down, even in a decent deficit)

Could I have a conversion issue? What could it be? Also is it worth upping my Levothyroxine to get my TSH in the 'optimal' range? As in below 1.0

Thanks

Discussion Synthroid making me sick?

Hi all,
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism late last year (no Hoshimotos) and was put on generic Levothyroxine 25mcg. Within a week, I was having chest pain, shortness of breath, and lightheadedness. My doctor explained that some people have bad reactions to the fillers in generic levo, and switched me to Synthroid.

I was put on 25mcg of Synthroid and within 2 months, boosted to 50mcg. I had no symptoms or issues for months, and my TSH went from a 9 to a 3.4. T4 and T3 were always in range.

The past few months, I've had extreme palpitations, a high resting heart rate, and severe air hunger. It got so bad I ended up in the ER. They ran all sorts of tests and everything came back normal. My TSH was still in range. My ferritin was actually higher than it was a year ago (I was convinced that was the cause of my issues)

I was so desperate for answers and relief that I stopped my Synthroid after a horrible night of air hunger and SOB. To my shock, I felt better the next day. My heart rate was back to normal for the most part and I never felt that tight chest / not getting enough air feeling. Thinking it may be placebo, I gave it a few more days. I've felt great. I have an appointment with my Endo in a few days to go over all this.

Has ANYONE had a similar experience? She is open to trying me on another form of thyroid medication to see if it helps. Is it possible I'm having a reaction to both Levothyroxine and Synthroid, even if I went months on Synthroid with no issues ? Or is it more likely I am overmedicated, even with a 3.4 TSH?

General Low t3 and t4 and normal TSH?

I have low t3 and t4 but a normal TSH. Has anyone struggled with this? I’ve seen an endocrinologist to address the issue but they don’t seem concerned. But I’m going through significant hair loss, feeling sluggish and brain fog. He prefers to “wait and see” but I feel I should be proactive. My iron levels are ok. Any ideas?

General Driving me crazy

Ill try to keep it short.

The first time i ever took out my thyroid hormones were 4 months ago, then my tsh was 7, FT3 and FT4 were normal, maybe a little low, but in the ref. interval

Since that is my first finding of my thyroid being off, I did antibodies testing, negative.

Repeat of the test after a month, my tsh was 3, other hormones were the same.

Did thyroid ultrasound, doc sadi it was normal.

BUT aroud a month ago I started experiencing many symptoms, the worst honestly being dryness, dry eyes, dry skin, dry nose and no sweating (maybe the worse of them all). My feet feel cold all the times, sometimes my hands also, and the fatigue is real.

So I repeated the test 11 days ago and my tsh was 6.3, other hormones were normal. So i thought ok have I finnaly found the root cause to all of my problems? Do i have subclinical hypothyroidsm?

So today I restested again to see my antibodies, they were negative, but I also did tsh and hormones, and to my negative suprise tsh was 2.4 and hormones were normal....

I have nerver felt worse and the hormones are normal....
What could this mean? Did anyone here recover from dry eyes and dryness of the whole body? Why am i experiencing this even thos my hromones appear to be normal?

Post-Thyroidectomy My hands are ALWAYS COLD!!!!

Hey y'all, I recently had a total thyroidectomy due to papillary thyroid cancer (all clear now, didn't need RAI thankfully!!) I had it removed August 28th. Before this, I was previously diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few years ago. I did not end up taking medication since it made me develop hyperthyroidism. I have been having thyroid issues for a very long time, basically.

So now, post TT, I am obviously on levothyroxine and will be for the rest of my life. I am the type of person to always be hot, which still stands true even without my thyroid. The only difference is that my hands are ALWAYS cold. Like, uncomfortably cold, no matter how much I try and warm them. They always get sooo bone chilling cold, unless I'm doing something like cleaning. It is so bad that it causes pain and stiffness sometimes.

I know that finding the correct dose of levothyroxine is going to take a while, I was fully prepared for this process. I started on 75mcg and have been bumped up to 100mcg, last labs were a month ago showing my TSH was at 17.5. I'm fully expecting the physical and mental symptoms of hypothyroidism.

But! I have never had my hands be this God damn cold all the time!!!! It is SO uncomfortable!!! So I guess my question is, has this happened to you? I'm considering wearing gloves just at my computer desk, since my hands freeze so quickly that I have to pause playing games to warm them up sometimes. I would love to hear your stories too if you'd like to share. Tysm!

Should I seek more testing?

General Irritability and sleepy from levo

Hello, Im 13 days on levo on a compounded dose made for me because of issues with the name brands. I have subclinical and I have noticed last few days that after I take the medication around 7:30 am I get sleepy I usually fall back asleep and when I wakeup I am irritable and snappy which I usually am not. Im not really having feelings of anxiety yet hopefully I wont at all. To say this is overmedication it is most likely not since I am taking smaller than 3 mcg of t4 only with cellulose as the filler. Is this normal will I adjust? Im just fighting everyday to feel normal :( someone please tell me it gets better?

Labs/Advice TSH 6 and T4 is 0.54, but lab ranges say this is normal?

I’m 24F with positive hashimotos antibodies. I’ve had subclinical hypo for the past few years and my T4 has never been lower than 12, with my TSH ranging from 3-9.

TSH 6.5 High (0.38 - 5.33)
FT4 0.54 Normal (0.48 - 1.97)
(FT4 is equivalent to 7 in pmol)

According to google my FT4 is well within low but my lab says it’s within the normal range? My TSH isn’t that high and we’ve been monitoring it if it goes over 10 so it seems fine to me, but the T4 is what’s throwing me off

Does this look like overt hypothyroidism or am i possibly going to be able to go a few more months with just monitoring

Discussion In addition to Hypothyroidism, what other medical issues have arisen for you?

I (28, F) was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at 21 and have been taking levothyroxine since. I feel though, that my slew of other health issues must be related: digestion issues, food and other allergies, skin infections, weight fluctuation, mood changes. Does anyone else have this experience? Did anyone eventually get a more accurate diagnosis? And does they have recommendations about what type of holistic treatments can work? I've been trying to see an endocrinologist for almost a year now, and am considering paying $$ for a concierge service.

Discussion Athletics and Levothyroxine- Insight?

Hello! 21 f who is an upper level d2 sprinter on a college team.

I am about to start a low dose of levo (25) for mild hypo (4.19 TSH) and raised antibodies for hashimotos. Ive had brain fog and exhaustion, it seems all i do is go to class, practice, and then lay down for the rest of the day.

I was reading about some peoples experiences with endurance training. I do the 100 and 200 m, not anything long distance, but was curious if the levo will help or hurt my performance overall. It seems getting my levels down to a normal range would aid in recovery and overall function, but the heart rate and endurance/heat intolerance issues could impact training.

Does anyone have any insight into this? I am a little hesitant but also am sick of feeling so tired and foggy.

Other/Undiagnosed Irregular Periods

Is it possible that my thyroid could be the cause of irregular periods could be thyroid?

For some context I have had irregular periods my whole life (23 years old). My father had hyperthyroid which turned into hypo after treatment. I went to the doctor last year who ordered blood work while i was on hormonal birth control and labs were normal... so i am waiting until i am 3 months off of BC to get blood work to retest.

Has anyone had irregular periods be their primary symptom?
