There has been an outbreak off the coast of South America.
Insomnia.
The afflicted have gone more than a week without sleep. They are terrified to even close their eyes.
When they finally succumb, they speak of a Lost City… of grotesque creatures… of voices calling them deeper… of something unholy.
The government has quarantined the island.
No one goes in.

For over 15 years my wife and I have been bringing Ray Bradbury's Halloween Tree to our neighborhood.
No one else around does anything, so we like to create the magic that's needed for the season.

Paul moved in a few days ago and refuses to drink the beer i gave him. We haven't talked about splitting finances or anything yet. He doesn't seem to have much to say. Bit of a bag of bones this guy. Any pointers as to how I should deal with such a free loader?

The idea was to have eyes in the bamboo, blinking, looming in the darkness. So I took a bunch of LED pixels, cut them into pairs, staked the locations, measured 18/3 wiring splices between them, cut and soldered WAY too many connections, and then forgot about the brain box location and lead to pair #0, so had to solder in a splice in the bamboo.
I used the tube speaker I built for audio, and it triggers when guests pause -- lots of eyes lighting up, the big growl, and then back to random blinking eyes turning on and off with the low base breathing audio.
Video of the project in action:

This was my first real attempt at making my own prop. That is a Home Depot skeleton with a Spirit Costume. I wanted to cart to look a little crappy. I am currently making a complementary prop with the insert coin box.

We put on a massive Haunted Circus every year for Halloween, so I designed an ESP32-based controller to manage the increasingly insane amount of games, props, and custom lighting audio that makes it all happen.
It can:
The fortune teller in the second photo is a great example of the controller being used to its fullest. The attendant presses a remote control button to start the sequence. This wakes her up, and she does her movements while playing custom audio synced with her jaw synced to it. Plus extra props on the table go off. Plus it sets off a relay to create a lightning effect. Plus it tells a Pi to display a number in the crystal ball via a pepper's ghost effect.
I am so over the top stoked that this thing actually works. It was 2 months of concentrated effort in the evenings, alongside a lot of help from GPT, to get it together in time, get it manufactured, and then still hook up to our million props.

Hazel stands by the door with a cauldron. When someone walks up she greets them in her crackly old voice and chats with them using LLMs. Say "trick or treat" and a piece of candy rolls down her sleeve into the cauldron.
The witch is a store-bought 6 ft hanging talking witch. Behind her, on a shelf, is a 5-gallon bucket with a 3D-printed turntable and a stepper motor controlled by Arduino that dispenses one candy at a time. A drain pipe runs from the bucket through her sleeve. A sonar sensor hidden on her robe sees people coming, and a speakerphone gives her ears and a voice.
It's open source if anyone wants to build one: https://github.com/religa/halloween-candy-dispenser

Got inspired by plenty here, decided to give it a shot. Only finished half of my vision as time ran out. Had a lot of fun learning how to set everything up.
