I don’t see why some people hate these precious babies
This one bites me daily and isn’t really fond of me, but I don’t see that as a reason to dislike him. He’s my baby

To make this sub function properly and be a friendly and useful place for guinea pig owners, the rules needed a complete overhaul.
Please familiarise yourself with the new rules. They are now displayed in the side bar, and are much easier to read and remember. There may be a few more modifications over time, we will just see how things go.
Most of them are pretty obvious and self-explanatory. But if anyone has any questions regarding any of them, then please ask.
I have also added some post flairs. This means that you can now search the sub by the specific flair, such as if you just want to see pigtures! I have just added the basics, if there is anything I have missed then suggestions are welcome.
Sexing posts have their own flair now, but they also need to be marked as spoiler. This means people don't suddenly have surprise guinea pig genitals in their feed!
Lots of people come here for advice, and it is important that they receive accurate advice and are not deterred by people being rude. If you are unable to respond politely, considerately, reasonably and helpfully to a post, then DO NOT RESPOND. Attacking people who are asking for advice does not help and will likely make them defensive and non-receptive to receiving help. Take a breath, look at something else. Anyone who responds in this way will get a temporary ban, if it occurs again then the ban will be permanent.
Please report any aggressive and unhelpful comments through rule 3.
Thank you for your suggestions and patience. Hopefully this sub can be a genuinely useful resource for those who come here.

So I just brought home a 4-6 month old pig to add to my heard of 2 and one of my girls is not too fond of the little one. She’s going after her leaving fur in her mouth after she’s done, leaving the little one screaming I have already separated their enclosure but I feel like I made an impulse decision… please ease some of my worries. It doesn’t even feel right now. It feels like they’re unhappy. Genuinely so upset right now

I have 2 guinea pigs, rocky and Nugget. They are 8 months old and i have only had them a few months. I take them over to my friends whenever i am staying longer than a night. Rocky has been coughing and sneezing for the past 3 days and whenever i bring it up, my friend says they are fine. Apparently i am overreacting about being worried that he might get worse.
Am i overreacting

I know its bad sounding but they said its cuz of hay. I dont believe them. Going back in with better video like this one she hides in the dark when I try to film breathing she takes off.

I noticed one of my male piggies tends to chew on the side of the cage when he gets bored/doesn’t want to eat food but wants to chew on something. Are there safe products out there I can give him to chew on so that it can help with his boredom and also chisel down his teeth for enrichment purposes? Thank you for any information and help in advance!

I’ll be traveling next week for 4 days. It’s a 5-6 hour drive. I know traveling for pigs is not ideal, but a pet sitter is NOT an option unfortunately.
Would you recommend I bring them with me, or left home alone for 4 days with tons of hay?

Hi everyone!
I’m currently searching for anew wooden house for my two boys: one hairless 3 year old and one agouti 6 years old. Wanted to get on here to see if there are any wooden hideouts that you guys recommend! If possible, nothing with color.
Thanks :)

Hi everyone so I posted on here about a month ago when I first adopted my girls Maple and Mabel off of Facebook.
So everything has been going extremely well I love my girls so so so much and they are the sweetest little piggies i've ever met. Now to the problem at hand....
Over the last week, i've realized a significant weight gain in my one guinea pig mabel. I took her out and started examining her when I realized her tummy was extremely big, like popped out big. Me and my sister started taking a look at her and we realized we think she is pregnant. The home that I got her from had boys in the same household. I'm just not sure how they were housed, so i'm not sure if there was a chance of them getting together. I have no boys, Guinea pigs of my own. Only my girls and i've checked that her roommate is most definitely a girl and she is. She is in a huge pear shape, and I feel lumps in her lower abdomen. Now, i'm not fully sure, but i'm pretty sure I also felt movement, but that could also be me just being a little bit anxious so I dont wanna count that just yet. I've asked a couple other people for their opinions and i've just gotten mixed ones. I thought I'd come on here as everybody has been so helpful with every post I made so far.
I will insert pictures of her below and answer any questions that may be needed. I will also give you side by side example of what she looks like versus her sister. So please let me know if you do believe that she is pregnant and if you believe she is, please tell me how far along, you might think she is, and any advice to know down the road. I'm trying to learn about it so far, i've just never had to deal with pregnancy scares, because i've only had boys before this point.
Tysm!!!
(P.S. !!!!!The photo where i'm holding her up i don't ever do this. I only did it for this one picture to show her stomach!!!!)

My boyfriend caught Powder doing this on camera because he thought it was such a bizarre sound. I have NEVER heard any of my pigs over the years (I’ve had 6) make any sound remotely close to this. He said she seemed like she was in a trance and nothing he said or did would snap her out of it. She “chirped” for a few minutes. She’s acting normal now. What does this mean??? Has anyone else heard their guinea pig do this?

hello, my guinea pig suddenly began to breath raspy. It already happened a few months ago when he also made like choking/coughing sounds, after a while it disappeared and never gaped again till now. That time we took him to the vet and had nothing, i was thinking maybe he ate incorrectly and something got stuck in his throat so he cant breathe normally?? maybe it will pass in a couple of hours if he coughs so its not stuck anymore. Btw he eats normally and i dont see any strange movements correlated to breathing

I noticed this ridge on Artie’s right nostril earlier today, I’m hoping she just bumped it on something (she‘s a big bar biter) and it should go away over the next couple days but I’m looking for a second opinion to make sure it’s not something like early cheilitis or ringworm. She just turned 6 so I’m trying to be careful with her. Clearer photo in the comments
Edit: Thank you for the comments, I‘ve concluded that I just worry too much about her :) she has a lot of pepper so vitamin c deficiency isn‘t likely and shes too old for something like ringworm
