Even if I don't necessarily agree with all of the Warrior Guide content, you present it really well and go into a good bit more depth than most folks do anywhere that I've seen. Great guide, your posts are getting to the point that I can pretty much trust they'll be useful. Thanks!

Yeah, I tried to make a point of saying that there are a ton of other ways to play a Warrior. People kept asking for my specific method though, so I did my best to explain. There are much better Warriors out there I'm sure.

Note: When out in the world gathering wood. If you are being attacked while you harvest, there is a chance you will get a ruined log even if you have tier appropriate gathering materials. I have not seen this with food and ore nodes though.
I've had this happen on an Orichalcum node (got ruined ore with the proper pick). Thought it was a bug or something. I was very sad.

I thought that might be the case. I hadn't had it happen to me yet though. I think it is safe to assume the same can happen with plant nodes as well. Thanks for confirming this for me.

Ahhh, the Tryndamere build. It's a good build for sure, and you guide does a good job of explaining stuff (And i enjoyed all your other posts as well), but... I mean, this is the build that I see 99% of warriors running around with. It doesn't take a genius to run up to an enemy and press a single button and win.
I'd love to see some discussion about other builds that don't focus around the greatsword and running signets for the signet god.

This was kind of my concern at first but it is intended as a guide and I think it does a great job at that. Presenting a solid leveling build for people to work with as they learn the class offers folks the opportunity to figure things out at their own pace without having to worry about floundering and sucking.

But the flipside is that it's a hard sell to take another build that's less efficient just for the sake of being different. Or do you think there are more interesting builds that are just as effective? (I haven't played a warrior.)

I saw this other build involving Sword/Shield and LB (LongBow) that was based around fire/bleed condition damage that looks cool as hell for leveling and pvp. It just wasn't what I used. When I first got the game I tended to stick to what worked and didn't experiment a lot. Now that I am 80 I have begun trying out new builds. This post was meant for those who are still level 20-30 and struggling. There are way more of those than you think.

Do you mind if we discuss wvw builds here? I only recently hit 80 and could only afford a single 80 weapon so I've been running gsword longbow (due to gsword utility in pve) , and it has been working for me, but before 80 I used sword/shield longbow and really liked it. Almost every skill on the sword/shield bar has huge wvw value.
For utility spells I have
Sig of healing - I feel like this is a no brainer given it takes so long to get out of combat regeneration in pvp.
Endur pain - I think this is the weakest in my lineup and I'm thinking of switching to signet of stamina (or whatever the endurance/stability one is called) it is pretty useful for glass cannon rampages with gsword
Charge - can't imagine replacing this for anything. Gap closer with interrupt and short immobilize that can be used as an escape.
Fear me - good crowd control and good at busting up enemy zergs. However lately during prime time hours I've noticed the hit detection is really flaky on this skill so I'm considering getting rid of it altogether, even though I like the idea of what it does tactically
Elite signet
Traits are not yet finalized as I haven't bought my 2g book yet.

From what WvW I've done I would definitely choose Mending over Healing Signet. It heals for twice as much with a shorter cooldown AND removes 2 conditions. There are a ton of Bleeds in WvW that will piss all in your koolaid if you don't have a way to take care of them.
If you really want to keep Healing Signet you could replace Endure Pain with Shake It Off for condition removal, but the cooldown isn't quick enough for me.

I saw you have at least a 50 Guardian. Could you do a guide on guardian? It would be much appreciated, but I understand if you're tired of writing haha.

When I get him to 80 I will consider it. I am pretty focused on finishing up my dungeon set for my warr and conquering all the explorable mode versions of the dungeons though. After that i don't see an issue making a guide for Guardians. They are very fun too.

How do you switch between builds? Do you purchase one of those retrain books every time you enter an instance?
3
u/koranuso Sep 14 '12
The guy you buy your trait book from will allow you to reset all your traits for 3.5 silver. I have done this several times and the price has never gone up so I usually swap between the two builds whenever I feel like doing farming or dungeons.
I would like to see a feature added eventually that allows my character to hold two builds on him innately. Arenanet has enough on their plate right now and their current system works plenty well enough for me.

Koranuso, I run a similar build except instead of the 10% running.. I use 20% faster signet recharge. I find a 48 second cooldown on Signet of Rage is worth more than 10% all the time. Not to mention the extra time with more Might and Fury.

Pssst... use this build creator. It is just... better. In pretty much every way. For example, check out your dungeon build on that site.
It actually shows your weapon skills. It shows the revised cooldowns of your skills that are affected by traits (shield and banner, in this case). It shows all conditions, boons, controls, and combo field/finishers you can do right at the bottom. It even shows what skills you get when you pick up your banner (works for any bundle or transformation skills)! You can hover over the "traits" tab to get an easy-to-read list of all your traits. And to top it all off, it just looks better. It's far more polished, more pleasing to the eye, and doesn't have any grainy, low-res pictures.

Another great post. I've been looking for a good build for when I try dungeons and that mace and banner one looks very useful. Support and survivability.

I honestly completely disregarded playing a warrior but the guide is making me think about buying that extra slot for one :S

Got another question for ya if you up for answering :P Where do you get exotic sets from? Do you buy them on the TP or craft them yourself? And how do you know which armour set you need to go for? So bloody confused regarding armour sets. Thanks again!

Morning everyone and sorry for the delay. After my last post I was offered a position as staff writer for End-Gamers and decided to give it a trial run. I have never used wordpress before but I do like being able to add color and pictures to my posts. Please let me know if you like the new post.
I have begun WvW and even if it is "nerfed" I was still able to make 12k Karma running around with a zerg in a couple hours. I can almost taste my next piece of Vit/Tough/Healing armor.
Also, any tips on getting words to wrap around a skinny image would be appreciated. I ended up just making my image wider to fill the space so it didn't look weird.
See yall in game.
