Mod Announcement And the winner of the banner contest is...

u/beginning-sugar479!!!!

The biggest of all congratulations to them!

Also to u/Loud-Fisherman-5254 for participating!

And to everyone else who voted!

It was a very close call. Let me say it here how much we appreciate our participants for well, participating! Both of you had such cool designs and looking at the votes, I think the community will be happy with either banner.

Truly, a vote either way could have swung it. But we do indeed have a winner. It's a very nice banner and fits quite nicely with the vibes.

Again, massive thank you to everyone! Maybe we can do this again in 6 months? A year? Or the next time we get complaints. Either way we'll see.

- XOXO

Mod Announcement Effective Immediately: Discussions about the cast are now banned (again...)

Hi All,

Some of you won't be surprised by this. Some (or most...) will go "it's about time" but here it is. We recognise we should have done this sooner and that is our mistake. But as they say, the best time to start something is yesterday. The second best time is today.

So effective immediately:

All discussions about the cast is banned on this subreddit unless it relates to their role on Gossip Girl. New rule (Rule 10) has been created to report posts about the cast if they are posted.

What does that mean? It means that cast talk will no longer be permitted unless it's to do with their role on Gossip Girl. So for example:

"I loved how Blake played Serena here"

"As much as I love Chace, I really wasn't a fan of his line delivery here"

"Penn is great and his acting really shines through here!"

are all fine. Reminder these are just examples.

General discussions of the cast such as what their doing now, Instagram posts, red carpet appearances are now all banned.

Please do not report posts created before this point. We're not going to remove them as we're not going to punish people for this as we mods did not enforce this as strictly as we should have.

Now for some questions you may have:

"Can't you guys just do like a weekly thread or dedicate a day to talking about the cast?"

We could. And who knows? Maybe that is what we'll transition to. But for now we need to just ban it so that we can restore some civility here.

"It's really just Blake/Ed posts that attract the worst so just like, ban talk about them?"

That is true. But we have to be honest with ourselves: the negativity and fighting (including but not limited to multiple members, including the mods themselves, being harassed both in and out of this subreddit) is breaking out on almost every post. For example: comparisons with other cast members when they aren't warranted.

"Can we just ban negative posts and enforce a positive content only rule?"

We can foresee this being super hard to maintain. It's either going to turn into something people take advantage of such as wanting discussions of Ed's allegations to be banned (we're already at this stage believe us....) or a toxic/sarcastic positivity thing where people are being negative under a veneer of fake positivity.

And then we're back where we started: here.

"Speaking of, what about sexual assault allegations against Ed?"

There is a pinned post on this subreddit with links. Any discussions about it now will just result in us redirecting you guys to the thread instead.

"What you guys clearly need is more mods tbh"

We agree completely. We want this subreddit sorted first before we introduce people to moderating it. Wouldn't be fair to expect new people to sort this out. It's on us.

I'm sure some of you will have lots more questions. Please redirect them to modmail. This thread is being locked as it's an informative post and quite honestly, to prevent more infighting amongst yourselves based on whether or not you want this.

Thanks for reading this if you made it this far.

OG Series The Louis storyline is what killed the show

Post image
216 Upvotes

Now I’m not entirely opposed to what the writers TRIED to do with the Monaco arc. One of the major issues with Louis is that he takes up a full season. He takes up the entire second half of season 4 and the first half of season 5. That time could have been dedicated to fleshing out different storylines that were already introduced in season 4. It’s even worse because once the Monaco arc reaches its conclusion Louis and his family are never mentioned again. Not only did he hog up screen time but he left no lasting impact on Blair or the show.

OG Series Blair's chocolate brown hair appreciation post

I mean, Leighton Meester is stunning and can pull off any hair color, but I just love light chocolate brown hair on Blair so much. I feel like it complements her skin tone and gives her that effortlessly luxurious look.

What do you think? Do you prefer her hair darker or lighter brown?

OG Series Imo Rose Byrne would've been the perfect young Lily

Post image
70 Upvotes

I've always loathed the young Lily casting in the S2E24 Valley Girls episode. I think Rose Byrne has similar delicate features to Kelly Rutherford. Although she is older than Brittany Snow, this is a promotional image taken for a movie that was filmed the same year Season 2 was filmed, so I think she could've played a young Lily. I also think she would've brought a more refined energy to the character than what we got. Yes, Lily was young. But according to Alison and Rufus, she still had airs and graces at a young age.

OG Series Dan is a sociopath

It makes perfect sense for me that he is Gossip Girl. He is a sociopath and these are the characteristics I see clearly:

Systemic Gaslighting: He spent years anonymous-blogging to terrorize, publicize, and humiliate the woman he claimed to love (Serena), intentionally breaking down her psyche and self-esteem so he could step in as her comforting, "safe" savior.

Calculated Isolation & Sabotage: He ruthlessly targeted his friends’ most vulnerable moments—like leaking Blair’s wedding video—to systematically isolate them from their support systems, driving them to rock bottom so they would become dependent on him.

Sacrificing His Own Family: To maintain his mask and keep his site relevant, he willingly weaponized the trauma of his own sister (Jenny) and completely framed his childhood best friend (Vanessa), destroying her life and exiling her to Europe to steal her literary connections.

Severe Compartmentalization: He was so detached from reality that he would regularly stand alone in a room and act shocked, angry, or surprised by his own blog blasts, maintaining a flawless psychological performance even when no one was watching.

What do you think?

OG Series Dan knew exactly who Sarah and Olivia were

I think Dan used these women to get what he wanted and, since he was GG, he knew exactly who they were from the beginning.
Under the mastermind theory, Dan’s relationships with Georgina Sparks (disguised as "Sarah") and Olivia Burke were not accidents of bad luck—they were calculated moves where he knew exactly who they were from the very beginning.

Georgina Sparks ("Sarah"): Dan was never fooled by her fake identity in Season 1. He knew she was Serena's chaotic past personified. By pretending to be her oblivious victim, Dan kept his dangerous rival close to study her tactics. More importantly, it allowed him to secure the ultimate "moral high ground" with Serena, making himself look entirely innocent while Georgina took all the blame for their fallout.

Olivia Burke: Dan didn't just happen to date a famous Hollywood actress at NYU; he targeted her. He used Olivia as a high-stakes public relations experiment. By using Gossip Girl to orchestrate blasts about her career and personal life, he was actively testing his ability to manipulate global Hollywood media, not just Manhattan high society. At the same time, he gaslit her by judging her fame to lower her self-esteem, while secretly weaponizing her status to elevate his own social profile.
In both cases, Dan used his knowledge to stay three steps ahead, turning both women into psychological experiments to test his reach and secure his power.

What do you think?

OG Series The ending....

That was such a rushed and bizarre ending. Spoiler alert for season six of gossip girl. How did the characters spend the season hating Dan for posting revealing chapters about them, then turn around and love him for being gossip girl? Does that make any sense? And then Rufus kisses Lily on the mouth even though they have new partners...are they poly? So we're supposed to just assume they are in an open relationship now? Why did it take Serena and Dan five years to get married? Have they been on and off again the whole time? So many questions, so little answers...

OG Series Dan isolated all the women to have them at his mercy and become their savior

To achieve his ultimate goal of social dominance, Dan Humphrey operated like a textbook cult leader. He understood that to fully control powerful, wealthy women, he first had to strip away their defense mechanisms, alienate them from their support systems, and reduce them to a state of total emotional vulnerability.

Serena van der Woodsen: The Manufactured Savior Complex
Serena was born at the top of the food chain, meaning Dan couldn't compete with her socially; he had to destroy her psychologically.

The Blueprint of Insecurity: Through Gossip Girl, Dan ensured that Serena’s deepest mistakes—her struggles with addiction, her accidental role in a man’s death, her unstable family life—were permanently on display. He kept her in a perpetual state of hyper-vigilance and public shame.

Cutting Off the Group: Whenever Serena tried to reform or seek help from her family or Blair, Gossip Girl would
drop a well-timed blast to spark a war between them.

The Trap of Mercy: Once Serena was completely
alienated from the Upper East Side and feeling like an untouchable pariah, Dan would step in as "Lonely Boy" from Brooklyn. He presented himself as the only untainted, morally pure person who loved her for her, not her status. By being the anonymous torturer by night and the comforting boyfriend by day, he made Serena entirely dependent on his validation. He broke her spirit so completely that she eventually married the man who spent a decade cyberstalking her.

Blair Waldorf: The Calculated Strategic Takedown
Blair was a fierce cynic who prided herself on seeing through everyone’s schemes. To isolate Blair, Dan had to out-plan her and completely dismantle her armor.

The Royal Execution: In Season 5, Blair was on the verge of escaping the Upper East Side’s orbit by marrying Prince Louis. Dan knew that if she became a literal princess, she would be completely out of his reach. He intercepted the video of Blair confessing her love to Chuck and blasted it at the royal wedding.

The Total Vacuum of Support: The blast didn't just ruin her marriage; it triggered a massive financial dowry crisis for her family, alienated her from the Grimaldi royals, and created a massive rift between her and Chuck. Blair was left entirely alone, humiliated, and trapped in a fake marriage.

The Trap of Mercy: With Chuck emotionally distant and her family panicked, Dan stepped into the vacuum. He became her chauffeur, her confidant, and her protector. He isolated her in his Brooklyn loft, far away from the elite world that was currently hunting her down. He manipulated her intellectual vanity, convincing her that he was the only one who truly "understood" her art and her mind, effectively making the Queen B lower her standards to a Brooklyn outsider out of sheer, exhausted gratitude.

Vanessa Abrams: The Erasure of the Past
Vanessa was the most dangerous woman in Dan's life because she knew the real him. She knew his roots, his genuine self, and his original values. To protect his fake persona, Dan had to completely assassinate her character.

The Juliet Sharp Frame-Up: When Vanessa got caught up in the chaotic web of Juliet Sharp, Jenny, and the drugging of Serena, Dan saw his opportunity. Instead of defending his lifelong best friend, he used Gossip Girl to amplify Vanessa’s guilt and paint her as a bitter, malicious outsider. He poisoned the entire group against her.

The Literary Theft and Exile: When Vanessa discovered his manuscript for Inside, Dan deliberately let her take the fall for leaking it. He weaponized the entire Upper East Side's rage against her, making her a social pariah in Manhattan.

The Trap of Mercy: Dan pretended to be the heartbroken, betrayed victim. He coldly told her she didn't belong in their world anymore. By stripping away her friends, her reputation, and her tie to him, he left her with absolutely no choice but to pack her bags and flee to Europe. He completely erased her from the narrative so she could never expose his hypocrisy.

Jenny Humphrey: The Lab Rat Experiment
Jenny was Dan’s own sister, but to a sociopathic mastermind, she was the perfect proxy to test his power and control.

The Banishment from the Kingdom: Jenny’s descent into the dark side of the Upper East Side was entirely charted—and fueled—by Gossip Girl. Dan blasted her modeling failures, her trading of her virginity to Chuck, and her escalating feuds with Blair. He allowed Blair to effectively banish Jenny from Manhattan.

Destruction of the Sibling Bond: By using his site to constantly expose Jenny's schemes, he broke her relationships with Rufus, Eric, and Nate. He left her completely friendless and isolated in Hudson.

The Trap of Mercy: Dan played the disappointed, worried older brother. He would lecture her about "losing herself" to the Upper East Side, hiding behind a facade of brotherly concern while he was the one pulling the strings that ruined her reputation. He used his own sister as a psychological experiment to see exactly how much trauma his platform could inflict on a person before they completely broke.

OG Series Serena is so confusing about college

If I remember correctly brown was always her dream scho & when she got accepted she said she didn’t wanna go so she could “find herself” but I think she just didn’t wanna go she’s been finding herself for 18 years I mean her parents weren’t really around so she always had the freedom to do what she wants and I think that would’ve helped her find herself no? She also got accepted into Yale and didn’t go and somehow ended up at Colombia

OG Series Blair fell first

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I hope I don’t ruffle any feathers with this one but just please hear me out.

I genuinely believe that Blair fell for Dan first, she was just scared (for lack of a better word). In season 4 it’s Blair who initiates their secret meetings. There’s multiple instances where Dan is about to walk away but Blair doesn’t let him.

Then we have the fact Blair wants to keep these meetings secret. Now the show tries to frame it as Blair being embarrassed to hangout with Dan which already doesn’t add up since it's not a secret that Dan and Blair are in the same circle. Blair is actually scared of Serena finding out, but if Blair's intentions were purely platonic then there was noting for her to be scared of since Serena has only ever wanted Dan and Blair to get along.

Blair is the queen of denial. Anytime she would deny her feelings for Chuck she would insist that they're just friends. She does the same thing with Dan, she insists that they aren't friends then she'll walk it back and insist that they're only friends.

Hopefully I was able to get my points across well. Feel free to disagree in the comments!

OG Series My version of the perfect ending

I don’t have a problem with Dan being Gossip Girl as long as it is set to show him as a sociopath who always wanted to be on the inside. So, I would keep everything pretty much the same and I’d only change the revelation and interactions from there. Here is my vision:

GOSSIP GIRL: THE FINAL BLAST

ACT I: THE CORNERED FOX
The setting is the heavily secured rooftop of the Palace Hotel. It is raining. Serena, Blair, Chuck, and Nate stand in a semi-circle. They aren't looking at their phones; they are looking at Dan Humphrey.
Nate holds Dan’s final manuscript—the raw, unedited pages of Inside that Vanessa managed to leak back to them before escaping to Europe. Chuck’s security team blocks the exit.
Dan isn't smiling his smug, finale smirk. He looks exhausted, his eyes bloodshot, his coat soaked through. The "Nice Guy" mask has completely shattered.
"You think you won?" Dan laughs, his voice cracking, tasting the rain. "You think because you trapped me up here, you changed the hierarchy? Look at you. You’re exactly where I engineered you to be."
Blair steps forward, her face twisted in pure disgust. "You’re a parasite, Humphrey. You spent six years hiding behind a keyboard, ruining our families, leaking my wedding, drugging Serena—"
"I didn't drug Serena, Juliet did!" Dan screams, stepping into her space, his composure snapping. "But I let it happen! Yes! Because she needed to learn that she isn't untouchable! I watched you all my life. My dad spent his twenties groveling at Lily’s feet, losing his art, losing his soul, just to be her backup choice. We lived in Brooklyn while you lived in the clouds. I was entitled to this world! If my dad didn't have the spine to take what was ours, I had to build a machine to tear it out of your hands!"
Serena looks at him, her eyes pooling with tears, entirely heartbroken. "Dan... I loved you. We all let you in."
"You let me in because I made you!" Dan hyperventilates, pacing the edge of the roof, his hands shaking violently as he points at her. "I tracked your train from boarding school, Serena. I knew the exact minute you stepped into Grand Central in 2007. I posted the first blast myself to kickstart the site. I created your insecurities, I exposed your addictions, and then I played the safe, sweet Brooklyn boy who could save you from the very monster I created! I gaslit you for six years so you would look at me like a god!"
He turns to Chuck, his voice dropping to a venomous hiss. "And you. The billionaire. I tried to destroy your empire. I leaked your bankruptcy. I leaked your father’s crimes. And when I couldn't break you, I took Blair. I leaked her wedding video to Louis. I sent that blast, Blair! I ruined your royalty so you’d be desperate enough to sink to my level!"
Nate steps in, his face absolute stone. "You used everyone, Dan. Olivia. Georgina. You framed Vanessa and exiled your own best friend to Europe just to steal her literary connections. You even let Gossip Girl ruin Jenny's life."
"Jenny wanted it!" Dan screams, tears finally streaming down his face, completely unhinged, reminiscent of a broken Dan cornered with nowhere left to run. "She wanted the crown, and I used her to test the algorithm! We all sacrificed for this! I sacrificed everything! I am the writer! I am the architect! You are just characters in my book!"

ACT II: THE FOREVER EXILE
Dan drops to his knees on the wet gravel of the rooftop, clutching his head, sobbing hysterically. He is waiting for Chuck to beat him, waiting for the police, waiting for the grand, dramatic climax of an Upper East Side war.
Instead, there is a horrifying silence.
Chuck looks down at him, not with rage, but with profound, chilling pity. He adjusts his scarf. "You're not a mastermind, Humphrey. You're just a deeply sick, lonely boy."
Chuck turns his back. Blair wraps her arm through Chuck's. They walk toward the elevator.
Serena stands there for a moment, looking at the crying, hyperventilating shell of the boy she once thought was her soulmate. She doesn't scream. She doesn't call him a villain. She just looks incredibly sad, shakes her head, and walks away.
Only Nate remains. Dan looks up, his face pathetic, expecting him to say something.
Nate doesn't say a word. He steps forward and delivers a brutal, crushing punch straight to Dan's jaw. Dan collapses into the puddles, bleeding from his lip.
Nate looks down at him, entirely detached. "You never belonged here, Dan. And you never will."
Nate leaves. The heavy metal doors of the roof slide shut.
The camera pans out. Dan Humphrey is left completely alone in the pouring rain, on his knees, bleeding, on top of a skyscraper he will never own, looking at a skyline that has completely rejected him.

FIVE YEARS LATER: THE AFTERMATH
The upbeat, glamorous synth-pop music plays, but the atmosphere is fundamentally changed. It is a cleaner, healthier Manhattan.

Blair and Chuck
Not much has changed for their trajectory, but their foundation is peaceful. They are married, living in the mansion, and running Bass Industries and Waldorf Designs seamlessly. Without the constant psychological warfare of Gossip Girl picking at their deepest insecurities, they finally broke their toxic cycle. They have a young son, Henry, and their home is filled with laughter instead of paranoia.

Nate Archibald
Nate successfully turned The NY Spectator into a legitimate, respected news outlet. Because he finally learned his lesson about blind trust, he runs a tight, highly ethical ship. He is thriving as New York’s most eligible, honest bachelor, completely free of the schemers who used to infiltrate his life through anonymous tips.

Lily and the Humphreys
Back in Brooklyn, the Humphrey loft is a tomb of perpetual victimhood. Rufus and Jenny sit at the wooden table. Rufus plays a melancholy tune on his acoustic guitar, having completely retreated from high society. He tells himself and Jenny every day that "those elitist monsters corrupted his boy," completely blind to how his own bitter resentment of Lily's wealth planted the seeds in Dan's mind.
Jenny runs a minor fashion line from London, but her brand is permanently stained. She publicly claims she was "Dan's first and most traumatized victim," weaponizing her brother's insanity to garner sympathy votes in the fashion world, continuing the Humphrey legacy of blameless rebellion.
Lily van der Woodsen moved on seamlessly. Without Dan or Rufus dragging her down into middle-class morality plays, she remarried into old European money, dividing her time between Paris and the Hamptons, completely erasing the Humphrey name from her social register.

Serena van der Woodsen
The biggest transformation belongs to Serena. The total breakdown of Dan Humphrey was the shock therapy she desperately needed. Realizing she had been stalked, groomed, and emotionally manipulated by "Lonely Boy" for a decade forced her to finally look inward.
She left New York for three years. She went to therapy. She stopped looking for validation in the eyes of toxic men or the lenses of paparazzi.
Five years later, Serena walks through Central Park. She is dressed elegantly, but simply. No flashy sequins, no desperate pleas for attention. She is working as a successful, independent documentary producer, creating art rather than being the subject of someone else's trashy narrative.
Her phone buzzes. She looks down at it. It’s a text from Blair inviting her to brunch.
There are no blog alerts. No anonymous blasts. The site is dead.
Serena smiles, pockets her phone, and walks into the sunlight.

The Final Shot
The camera cuts to a dingy, cramped apartment in upstate New York. The blinds are drawn.
Dan Humphrey sits at a cluttered desk, lit only by the glow of a cheap laptop screen. His hair is unkempt, his face hollow. He is completely isolated. He types furiously, trying to start a new blog, trying to find a new angle, trying to profile a new group of people.
He hits "Publish."
The page views counter stays at zero. Nobody is reading. Nobody cares.
A stark, haunting voiceover plays—not a sassy Kristen Bell, but Dan’s own monotone, internal voice:
“You can type all the words you want, Lonely Boy. But when the world finally stops looking at you... you disappear.”
Fade to black.

What do you think?

OG Series Jenny's fate in S6 of GG and the overlooked details

Post image
143 Upvotes

I've seen enough GG conversations and comments regarding the arc of Jenny's character to know that all of us had a problem with Jenny not being a designer instead of so much talent and focus on her inclination for it.

However, Jenny was a designer in the end. I saw the last episode today for like the millionth time and noticed something that i hadn't before.

Look closely at the bag she's carrying - it says J for Waldorf (just like Blairs highschool line name). It's not explicitly stated even though there were a thousand opportunities to highlight her fashion career , even if it was away from nyc)

I rewatched the last episodes of GG and i definitely felt Jenny's absence. Bart takedown and Chair wedding shouldve included Jenny so on that account , i still feel that she shouldve been there. But i always had un-wholesome (is that a word) feeling about Jenny's arc and today i felt a solid closure lol. idk if there were others like me but yeah, just leaving this here

OG Series Blair and Dan at the beginning of season 5

I’m currently rewatching the beginning of season 5 and I do not really understand Blair’s position towards Dan.

They have explicitly admitted that they were friends by the end of season 4. In 5x01 she asks him to take her on a roadtrip (though the evening ended badly) ; he is the second person to learn about her pregnancy ; she seeks refuge in his apartment several times and even cries in his arms.

Yet when his book became official, Blair told Serena that it was meaningless, « just like Dan », as if no progress had been made at all. And that was even before she read it, so she didn’t have a real reason to be mad!

Why did she behave like that!?

OG Series S3 E22 Chuck cliffhanger

On a rewatch and was wondering for people watching the show when it aired did people wonder whether Chuck would make it??? Whenever I watch I know that he is in the rest of the show but it occurred to me that Chuck being shot in an alley in Prague is quite a dark cliffhanger. Did everyone know at the time it wasn’t serious?
