Camper/Vehicle

Good evening!

I just wanted some input. We have a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 with an 8.1L engine. Unfortunately due to the age, I am unable to accurately read the hitch rating sticker on the hitch. The GVWR on the Suburban sticker is 8,600 LBS. It is already equipped with trailer brakes.

The camper we are interested in is the Grand Design Transcend Xplor 24BHS. The GVWR on it is listed at 6,995.

We are going to be buying a weight distributing hitch (any recommendations?).

Do y’all see any problems with this set up? Any advice you can give? First time camper buyers who are so excited!! Thanks in advance.

Replace the current factory hitch with a longer hitch that spans in front of the hole behind the rear leaf spring perch. Like the Drawtite 45515.

The Sub 8.1L is a VERY good tow rig. The factory hitch is the Achilles heel

what is the payload? Your wheelbase will also be a limiting factor, but not sure a 25' it will be restrictive.
