FML called him the wrong name

Post image

dinner is chicken and rice! tried a new recipe and was pleasantly surprised. honestly i just need to get this off my chest because i find it absolutely mortifying 😭

i worked a 16hr shift the other day & slept at my mans house after, we haven’t been together for very long (like 2mos) so things are pretty new on the romantic side, but we’d been friends for years prior. i was exhausted & had a really stressful situation happen at work that day (involving the person whose name was said) and i tend to sleep talk at certain points of my cycle.. all that combined into this whole situation and i am so embarrassed!!

anyway i got to his house at like 9am after working the previous day and night, cuddled up and went to sleep. i woke up a few hours later and he was acting kind of weird but didnt really say anything until maybe 10min later when he goes “who’s james?” (fake name)

i was super confused because i only know one “james” and i have spoken to him a total of one time (during the incident at work) so i said that i only know one james and he’s someone i work alongside (separate teams, we almost never interact). i thought maybe he had seen my texts with my manager regarding james, but he informed me that i had been calling him james in my sleep, and apparently said that he “smelled like james”… i don’t even know what james smells like 😭

i am super embarrassed and feel so awful 😭 i know if someone were to call me another woman’s name i would overthink so bad about it and i feel pretty shitty that i accidentally put him in that situation. i think my brain was just trying to process all the stress of the day/night and it was on my mind, but i can’t even remember my dreams so who knows… what do i even do here??

i explained that and even looked up the name in my contacts (no james’ to be found) to kinda corroborate my story and it seems to be okay but omfg i’m so embarrassed and if i were him i would never be able to move past this 😭😭😭

As much as I don't want to laugh, my husband is a chronic sleep talker and says truly bizarre things in his sleep when he's dealing with stressful stuff at work. Ever heard a grown man make chicken noises in his sleep? Hilarious. He definitely said something to his ex in a dream once or twice early on. I got over it quickly. 🤷🏻‍♀️

this makes me feel better lmao, thank you for sharing from the perspective of the non sleep talker

One time my husband sleep talked and said he was going to eat a puppy sandwich lmao, I do not think he would actually eat a puppy. Dreams are weird and irrational and hilarious

I had an ex that woke me up laughing in his sleep. I asked him what was funny and he woke up and said he was dreaming about a really funny dude he used to work with. I guess the guy was just telling jokes and funny stories. He hadn't worked with him in about a decade so it was weird the guy was still making him laugh after all that time in his dreams.

That same ex once drempt he was peeing into a waterfall. He woke up when he accidentally peed the bed. That was insane and I'm glad it was a one time deal.

one of my brothers was a chronic sleepwalker.

one night he came into the living room and yelled at our brother, "you moved my dirt!" brother 2 said, "what dirt?" brother 1 said, completely acting it out as to where the dirt was and wasn't, "it was right here! and you moved it here! put it back!"

another time, he came out and was trying to open the front door. our mom asked what was going on, and he said, "I'm late for work!" brother 2 asked where, and he said, "Sweden!" we lived in southeastern Kentucky.

I had weird dreams and talked in my sleep when I was pregnant. My husband woke me up laughing so hard, told me I said "it's like a beanbag chair, except cheese." I was dreaming I was eating Babybel 😂

I was with a guy that recited the Gettysburg Address in his sleep—BACWARDS. It had been a class assignment in elementary school. He was 26

My husband was in the military, he’s been out for years now but will still frequently yell at privates in his sleep 🤣 used to scare the hell out of me but I’ve learned to tune it out.

My husband once in his sleep said we have to hide from the police because he stole wall paper.

My ex husband used to say all sorts of nonsense in his sleep.

"Get the fucking ladder! The kids are on the roof!!"

"Don't ever touch me in the vegetable aisle. If anyone sees, they'll think you're a pig."

"I'm only going to the gas station; why do I need pants?"

"I'm not eating that and you're not the boss of me."

"Are you a fucking idiot?! Who's going to fix that hole?! That's a huge fucking hole, you moron!! What the fuck were you thinking!!"

"Tell your mother if she buys any more olives, I'm going to punch her in the face."

"We could just bury them all in the backyard and nobody would ever know. I used to do it all the time."

"It's not my fault he has to climb through the window for the rest of his life. I'm not the one who backed into him.

"That's not what that's meant for. You're gross. Get out of my bed."

Very early on in our relationship my husband recited the kool aid man scene from Family Guy while dead asleep. I had absolutely zero idea what the hell he was saying, but I never forgot it. It wasn’t until like a year after that that I actually saw the episode myself and about died laughing lmao.

Yessss! I was actually just going through my phone and I found recordings that I made of a night my husband was talking in his sleep really badly, he kept going “Bork Bork Bork” like the Swedish chef and I was rolling.

I sleeptalk . Once I called my husband a slug and threatened to salt him. Your dreams, and your sleeptalking, are not based in reality. They don't mean anything. Just an overactive brain.

You do nothing because you did nothing wrong. He's okay to ask, but you're also okay to let this go. Awake you is not responsible for the drivel sleep you talks.

My husband once woke up and yelled “I do it my way! Easy, breezy, beautiful” and I don’t think he’s really a CoverGirl. Long story short, we have no control over what we say when sleep talking, and he better not hold this over you.

It could have been so much worse! Hopefully he understands you were exhausted and it was just some of work slipping into your real life. At least it wasn’t during … intimacy …. That would have been much harder to recover from. Hopefully this will turn into something you guys can joke about in the future.

My late husband's older sister was supposedly a big sleep-talker, he told me that once when they were both still living with their parents he needed something from her room when she was already asleep, and when he entered she sat straight up, looked him dead in the eye and said in a slightly offended tone "excuse me, do you think I turn the lights off MANUALLY?!". Next morning she had no recollection of it whatsoever. Just another true story to reassure you, OP 😉

At least you called him someone elses name and not something mean. Ive been MEAN when im woken up half asleep. I felt so bad cuz its not the first time, but he understands that i used to have to fend off my brother who doesn't understand boundaries. I would say things like "fuck off" or "leave me alone fatass". It doesn't help that he is also fat like my brother. And also insecure about it... but thank god i make sure to show his belly all the appreciation when i am awake so he knows i do NOT mean any of it.
