Are the comments that are gifs only that are everywhere in every comment section here bots? I have seen other subs people using the bot finder thing on those comments.
They have a very recognizable, grating writing style that has multiple AI tells in it. Their accounts are also generally new, and they target our sub specifically. No real signs of an actual human life behind all the empty comments that sound the same.
As a side note, LLMs are becoming better at mimicking internet-speak. So it’s easy to be fooled, as in this example below.
Yes! The crying emoji as punctuation has become the new tell too. Mods have full access to people’s profiles, so I always check comment history to confirm whether the emojis are a sign of a real human or not — because, of course, LLMs learn from real human writing. But it’s pretty obvious when they’re a bot — new account, no signs of a real human life, and the same repetitive comment style.
Yep! That’s a big giveaway. They also tend to reply to the top comment to farm karma, but their comment reads as tho they’re replying to OP. Here’s an example:

trust that we are also as disappointed sometimes too! i have personally commented on bot posts in the past before doing my usual due diligence, then feeling like the world’s biggest jerk when i realize what happened 5 seconds after digging into the profile 🤦♀️
we remove what we can as quickly as we can, but the sub is growing fast and we mods are only human 😭 but we’re excited to have this new tool in our toolbox alongside the ever-important user reports we rely so heavily on!
oh girl, if you could peek inside our super secret mod discord channels, you’d see just how seriously we do take it! (eta: in fact, you can if you apply for a mod spot and are accepted!) fr this issue is probably 75-90% of our daily discussion no lie.
we’ve been manually vetting and discussing every single post or comment we see that we get weird vibes from for months. my camera roll is full of other peoples’ dinners because we’ve been looking for AI watermarks and reverse image searching by hand 🫠 and we will continue to do so! but now with some extra muscle behind the scenes 💪
