The Boys Despite all the hate this episode is getting, this was a really good line
62
u/ImHully May 15 '26
As meh as the episode was, Frenchie getting to tell off Homelander and go out on his own terms was great.
153
u/BigDikcBandito May 15 '26
There are SOME good dialogues but way too much irrelevant shit.
63
u/Gangleri_Graybeard May 15 '26
What? You don't want to see the cat lady and this dog dude sniffing each other's assholes? That was sooooo important!!! /s
24
u/BigDikcBandito May 15 '26
More time was spent on their shitting habits than on Ryan. It's mind blowing.

u/BigDikcBandito May 15 '26
Sure I was just making a point of the irrelevant shit in the last season of long series. Probably "comparable time" would be more fair, if you prefer.
Both were presented in short scenes in 3 episodes, and all her scenes were about shock factor, nothing would be lost for the audience if they were cut.
3
u/Kinsbane May 15 '26
I forget the actor's name (too lazy to look it up) but the fact that he went from portraying Captain Charles Vane (Black Sails) to.... whatever the fuck this was... is telling.
Like, I get it, actors gotta get roles. But.... seeing Charles Vane crawling around on all fours sniffing asshole was just so off-putting.
2
u/ExeRiver May 15 '26
That was funny and 1 minute long, the problem is way deeper.
1
1
u/Gangleri_Graybeard May 15 '26
I didn't say that's the only problem season 5 has. It's by far not the only one.
2
u/Conscious-Milk-155 May 15 '26
People are overreacting to this scene and forgot what the boys was about
2
1
u/Touillette May 19 '26
Well tbh this kind of scene was funny and stuff the first 100 times, when the series was at its beginning and we didn't expect it to be at its dramatic top.
It one made the show feel disruptive, thus funny. But now that we're used to that kind of stuff, it's no longer funny, we're just looking at to people sniffing each other's ass or Sage lubing her dildo which is ruining the emotional build-up through the episode.
It's not a big deal or whatever, but past the super hero orgy thing, I was like "meh I've seen it all, now give me plot, not supes with huge balls or volcano porn thing I'm way too used to it"
1
u/Nomadzord May 15 '26
While that was super dumb and I hated it. My 4 cats do that exact same thing everyday and I always wondered what they were thinking. I did some research and they literally are trying to map out their friend’s day based on their ass smell. I was not turned on by it though.
3
u/Nomadzord May 15 '26
Take what you can get, it’s not game of thrones bad.
3
2
u/yRaven1 May 15 '26
I'm sure that last ep will give us that good ol GoT feeling
1
u/Nomadzord May 15 '26
I really don’t think that’s possible, but if it does I’ll come back to this comment and eat crow/.
2
u/yRaven1 May 20 '26
The end happened and sincerely, it could have been way worse, lots of things left open but not that bad, i liked it.

The only dialogue that has an ounce of thought put behind it
107
u/kobrakai11 May 15 '26
And the speech MM gave in the same episode.
147
u/Fierysazerac May 15 '26
That MM speech was inserted at such an awkward and inappropriate point that it was laughable. Literally embedded among evil supes, and MM decides to give her a very long inspirational speech on the meaning of life? Come on.
38
u/Heyaname May 15 '26
It is completely on point for a character like MM to get preachy and inspirational after hitting the weed pen hard moments before seeing his friend looking sad.
22
u/Diverse0Ne May 15 '26
That's exactly what I thought it just felt really forced so it didn't hit for me. It felt like the writers wanted MM to give it for a while now but didn't know where to fit it within the show so they just threw it there before the show ended
3
u/Economy-Purchase6013 May 15 '26
I see the theme of shitting on final seasons of shows is strong in this app. It's not this bad guys. You're literally ripping every piece of every episode apart. I know that's the cool thing to do since shows like GOT (wasn't that bad) and Dexter (yes it was bad) but this final season is like a B- not a D like a lot of you think
3
u/CharesDuBois May 15 '26
It was right after Starlight said she was gonna give up on those people because they're brainwashed. The speech came exactly when it was needed, that caring is hard af because you should do it regardless of the world around you
3
u/Past-Nothing-7977 May 15 '26
iwl bro i thought it was a wrap for him after that. dude explains his nickname in a heartfelt manner to get annie back motivated i was full on expecting him to get blitzed by someone right after that
2
u/FenrirHere May 15 '26
I mean, I see the vision; she spends the episode watching people so easily gargle propaganda and lies and dogshit, why would she wanna help them? Everything around her is reinforcing that she probably SHOULDN'T give a shit.
But as MM says, fuck that shit. Being kind when everyone else is a piece of shit fuck face, is hard as hell.
1
u/Alittlespill May 15 '26
I can understand how it didn’t hit for you because of the clunkiness of the scene, I had to rewind the moment to grasp the whole feeling of it when I realized it was a great moment. But it was still a great moment.
1
u/Redchambo May 15 '26
Bro…they were both high…moments of inspiration when your high must be said immediately.
1
u/12345623567 May 15 '26
This sums up my feeling on the episode. The individual pieces were okay, good even. Frenchie's last stand, Hughie being the one to trick the psychic, MM getting Starlight out of her funk... the issue is that they each felt like "this is the last episode that doesn't have to wrap everything up, lets give everyone on the crew one crowning moment", it didn't feel natural.
1
u/alfredojayne May 18 '26
I loved the MM speech but I was screaming at my partner like "They just realized there's psychics here and they're trapped in a room! What the fuck!"
Also, it did deepen and give value to MM's character, but I feel like it was also a writer's trick to make us think he was next on the chopping block rather than Frenchie. And he still may very well be.
1
u/Parker4815-2 May 19 '26
This happens so often. They are sneaking, and hiding, and they decide to stop for a heart to heart

u/Ok_Purchase_9551 May 19 '26
I liked the speech but it didn’t help that it was immediately followed by the Sheline and Dogknott scene.
18
u/QueenSavara May 15 '26
Nah. That one was in a wrong place wrong time. They are spying and hidding but got time for peep talk?
5
u/OGDYLO May 15 '26
i mean yeah it was almost like a stakeout until catdog just started massacring innocent civilians. partners chat while staking out.
4
u/Platypus__Gems May 15 '26
I think people forget that characters don't know everything we do, so MM and Starlight did not know that Synapse knew where they are.

u/ThanxForTheGold May 15 '26
The speech was at the wrong place and wrong time tho. Undercover mission against two mind reader and two feral sups busting in any time
6
u/GodzillaSewer May 15 '26
Can you summarize it because I’m coming up blank. I feel like a lot of this season is forgettable
6
4
u/KetchupGuy1 May 15 '26
He got his name because people saw him as soft / weak for nursing a bird back to health, he likes the name because it represents helping others and helping/caring for others is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. It’s a good message but just really just felt weird pacing because of where it is in the episode
14
3
u/kobrakai11 May 15 '26
Did you even watch the episode?
4
2
u/GodzillaSewer May 15 '26
Yeah but i watched 3 episodes back to back so it’s a blur. Plus i was high so 🤷🏽♂️
1
u/damarian_ent May 15 '26
How i feel about the way people have been treating this season fr.
MM is really in his bag on these scenes.

u/ColdStorageParticle May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26
I literally blnked suring the speech i have no idea what he said too many monologues
EDIT blanked not blinked lol

Let’s not forget mm pouring out a drink for a-train. That didnt have any speech but it was extremely emotional and my favorite scene in the whole show
0
u/MrJogihb May 15 '26
That reeked of tell don't show though. Would be nice to get some character development on screen instead of just stated out loud.

u/teh_stev3 May 15 '26
Reminder: This good line existed in the same episode a dog-supe and cat-suped sniffed each others buttholes to tell what lunch they had as foreplay.

2
u/RealMrTrees May 16 '26
And here I was thinking, “no way they’re gonna top Terror’s Homelander dream”
16
15
u/Sliplikefruedian May 15 '26
This and MM’s dialogue about his cynicism and depression were by far the best lines in the episode. Maybe even the entire season…
7
u/No-Scar2928 May 15 '26
Antony starr would be great creature in FROM
1
u/MechanicalBootyquake May 15 '26
Bleh. Something about that show messed me up.
Watching Mrs. Liu getting torn up while Boyd watches, just trying to stay with her through the pain. “I know. I know. I know.” It just stuck with me. Did some of them get out at least?3
u/Sharp-Sky64 May 15 '26
The show’s not done yet. It’s halfway through Season 4 and there’s another season after this
1
1
u/BurnedOutFatty May 15 '26
Oh man that part was wild. I felt his acting was so convincing during that.
1
u/Ancient_Roof_7855 May 15 '26
Im convinced the show is an elaborate setup to get Harold Perrineau to act out "Scenes FROM a hat" and thats what's keeping me fixated.
1
6
u/Long-Ad3842 May 15 '26
lame fucking death though. is this even the same homelander that we saw in season 1? it also seems like hes been tolerating so many shit that S1 homelander wouldnt have.
4
u/I_Just_Need_A_Login May 15 '26
Homelander was relishing watching him suicide by radiation, basically torture. I feel like thats cruel and right up homelanders alley.
Also it didnt say or show exactly where he bled from, but i theorize he died from "bleeding out his ass" in reference to what soldier boy said earlier in the season. Little foreshadowing/joke
1
u/Shmatsonnn May 18 '26
His stomach was ripped open (fingered open lol). There are bts pictures of it all. He was also holding his stomach while crawling out.
1
u/I_Just_Need_A_Login May 18 '26
Ah yea i didnt see it directly. Makes sense and its nice he got a nice classy death unlike most characters.
0
u/Sufficient-Nothing77 May 15 '26
Or maybe that Homeboy ripped of his jewels after he told him to suck it
1
u/lornadc May 15 '26
Because he's become an unstable, man child lunatic since Season 1, it's a large part of his character
6
u/SillyMovie13 May 15 '26
I did really like the episode for the most part, but the main problem is that it should’ve been the second or third episode of the season. It didn’t feel like the penultimate episode
5
u/Professional-Cash974 May 15 '26
Yes but it has to end there. We have to see him crawl talk with kimiko ecc. If this was his last line in the show it would have been 10x better
1
u/mtgguy999 May 20 '26
Kimiko could have found him dead with the radiation rods still active. She’s so overwhelmed with emotion she holds him while the rods are still active. That additional exposure could have been the thing to pushed her body enough to develop the blaster powers. That’s how I would have wrote it
5
4
u/Makeyourdaddyproud69 May 15 '26
It’s bad writing. Super hero is given an emotional weakness, literally everyone in the universe tries to use it in their final moments. Is it universal knowledge? In the beginning it was proprietary but that isn’t dramatic enough.
1
u/SymbiSpidey May 15 '26
Well the whole point is that as the show has gone on, Homelander's mask has been slipping to the point where it's transparent how thin-skinned and insecure he is.
1
u/Alarming-While8028 May 19 '26
how interesting, I didn't interpret it this way at all. it's not an emotional weakness. A-train and frenchie both knew they were dead already. neither of them were trying to stop Homelander from killing them. they were just naming what they saw. a sad, pathetic, insecure man who needs people to be afraid of him because he has no idea what makes life meaningful
7
u/palemoonxx May 15 '26
HL twerked on Frenchie to prove him wrong but they cut the scene
Oh ha ha
1
u/CardiologistOk1028 May 18 '26
Haha... HL should have forced Frenchie to dance with him and then ripped him in half at the end.
3
u/Underdog424 May 15 '26
"Nooooooooo, You saved MEEEEEEEEE! Blahhhhhhhhhhhhh"
It was followed up by one of the worst plot tropes in storytelling.
15
u/TheTonyAndolini May 15 '26
It was a good line, I just wished Homelander had and answer, or at the very least killed Frenchie for it.
Frenchie is like the first main character to die (waayyyyy too late imo, wont be enough time for his death to matter long term for other characters) and they killed him offscreen.
Like I was borderline offended lmao, we were promised a "scorched earth" season and the writers dont even have the guts to have Homelander kill ONE character, they made it happen off screen.
Also if the radiation was strong enough to affect a V1 Homelander, Frenchie should have died pretty much on the spot.
Lastly I think his line should have been his last actual line, instead of the stereotypical "die in your lover's lap" cliche

u/JamesHenry627 May 15 '26
The line is good but it rings hollow for me. We’re just not scared of Homelander anymore, we’ve been waiting for him to do something since he killed A Train.
→ More replies (20)
12
u/Gangleri_Graybeard May 15 '26
Very good line but very odd choice to cut away and not showing how Homelander wounds Frenchie. It happens completely off-screen. Is there supposed to be a twist and it wasn't Homelander who wounded him? Is the bleeding Frenchie not really him and a shapeshifter instead? Is it the writing and the lack of re-shooting the scene?
15
u/Vesemir96 May 15 '26
I think that was to give him some dignity. In a show with such gross out scenes, it gave a main character a more dignified ending. We didn’t need to see the wound.
→ More replies (8)→ More replies (6)6
u/giobba96 May 15 '26
I think it's bleeding for the radiation. When you're exposed ti elevated radiation, one effect could be emorragy from every holes of the body...

I do wish that Frenchie was dead on arrival though. I’m pretty sure home lander would have given him the most gruesome death to leave a message
