She's foreshadowing the same shitty ending from GOT....fuck
40
u/karebearjedi May 08 '26
Kripke is already begging people to not retroactively hate the entire show once the finale airs. He knows he dropped the ball.
25
u/Mysterious-Hyena2670 May 08 '26
I don’t think he dropped the ball. It’s more like everyone has different expectations of what their ideal ending of the show would be and realistically he can’t please everyone.
There are people mad about the idea of the Gen V supes playing any role in the finale even if it’s assisting the Boys in defeating Homelander. That’s how unrealistic and unreasonable some of the fans are.
13
u/Kingsen May 08 '26
We literally had 5 seasons to prepare for the ending and we spent a lot of time with the plot going in circles. Stuff like the V1 plot line could have started long before now, giving time to wrap up every character’s storyline.
5
u/feralferrous May 08 '26
I dunno, there's that, but also the season has managed to meander, when it's only got 8 episodes., why are we spending entire episodes with brand new characters? Or spending any time at all focusing on that dumb dog POV? Or giving us shitty delay tactics like, "Oh we have to grow more virus" excuses.
I'm almost expecting a Bottle episode next, just to really fuck with us.
2
u/karebearjedi May 08 '26
The ideal ending would have been following the story laid out in the comics but that got chunked out the window
1
1
May 08 '26
The Gen V complaint is reasonable imo, I don’t want TV shows to feel like homework, that’s what’s been running Marvel into the ground.
I don’t want to spend 16 hours watching a separate show I’m not very interested in to understand what’s going on in the finale of show I’m invested in
1
u/ALAS_POOR_YORICK_LOL May 09 '26
He can't please everyone so he settled on writing total shit and pleasing no one
1
u/Sea_Scale_4538 May 10 '26
Obviously that idea would be stupid because i dont want random characters to show up in the final episode and just kill homelander. If they introduced them earlier in the show, i would have no issue
1
u/Mysterious-Hyena2670 May 10 '26
They’re not random characters. They’ve been referenced multiple times within the show and had a 16 episode spinoff series dedicated to setting them up specifically for the final showdown against Homelander.
2
u/awesome9001 May 08 '26
Its not to the point where I only see people bitch about the boys yet. I think if the ending is just lukewarm he'll be safe but if the ending is truly awful then it'll probably end up like GoT and no one will talk about how good it once was
2
u/GodSigmaGigaChad May 09 '26
Omg, yeah GG the show is ruined. And Just like game of thrones they'll just spam a bunch of prequels and milk it to death
1
u/DerBernd123 May 08 '26
he just pointed out how bad finales killed whole shows before and is understandably afraid of that. He’s not „begging people“ to spare the boys from that once the finale aires because he knows it’s shit or whatever
0
u/PotatoJon May 08 '26
Even as of Season 4, it’s not that rewatchable. This shitty season with all its filler episodes hasn’t improved that.
2
u/Mysterious-Hyena2670 May 08 '26
None of the episodes are filler episodes. And filler episodes are the most rewatchable because they’re not tied completely to the series plot but rather a self contained story that begins and ends within that episode. Making them perfect to watch on their own while non filler episodes demand you watch the entire season to get the full story and tend to end on cliff-hangers.
0
u/karebearjedi May 08 '26
When all the filler is clipped out, it takes you down to about 4 minutes an episode. I watched them on YT when I couldn't get hbo
3
u/Thrillhouse-14 May 09 '26
Hughie is going to fly in on a dragon and Homelander is going to end up trapped and crushed by the Vought tower, with his last scene being an incestuous confession to Soldier Boy, who will die with him.
Butcher becomes the new King. Hughie has to kill Butcher to make things right. MM becomes the new King after that because hes the 3-eyed milk.
Starlight, Kimiko, and Frenchie all stay on as MM's council, and they live happily ever after, or something.
1
u/Lakrad May 08 '26
The only way it could be comparable is if homelander decides to be chill to everyone.
1
u/Hamsterloathing May 09 '26
I don't think that's possible, The Boys is simply not high brow enough, even though it seems less Garth Ennis ridiculous.
34
u/CarpetExpert6649 May 08 '26
Man reading this comments I understand why Trump won the elections .
11
u/Deathstriker88 May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26
I hate Trump... and what the OP quoted along with that type of thinking. It's largely cope. We don't need bad times or death to enjoy life.
Like I just said in another post in here, l like the plotline in Sandman where they make a guy immortal thinking he'll want to give it up soon, but he never does. That's what most people would do.
The idea that power has to corrupt is another bullshit one. Power reveals who someone really is, it doesn't have to corrupt.
4
u/_-TheBlackKnight-_ May 08 '26
Yeah, doesn't that defeat the idea of innocence? Like "how is that child happy, it doesn't understand death or the evils of the world yet?!"
1
111
u/Kaccady May 08 '26
what a load of bullshit, you can just enjoy summer without dread of winter
38
u/mediafred May 08 '26
Must not live through Canadian winters then lol
31
u/TheTonyAndolini May 08 '26
Funny enough, this is EXACTLY what went through my Canadian mind when she said this.
I thought to myself ''bitch stfu I'd rather still live in LA than having that stupid ass snow in the winter''
9
u/FunguruFungus May 08 '26
I'll never understand Canadian's that don't like snow/the cold. Like are you depressed 1/4 of the year?!? At this point is it worth living here?
3
u/chouse33 May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26
That’s the idea. You need to know change happens and that the end gonna happen eventually for you to truly enjoy the present.
Currently sitting in Southern California, but it’s beachy gloomy outside, and 60°. Even our endless sunny days at 75 degrees get old. Lol.
4
2
u/That_anonymous_guy18 May 08 '26
Moved to Texas from Toronto, I miss the snow every now and then but this constant heat is much better than bone chilling winter
2
u/Kaccady May 08 '26
my snow is not melted yet in the middle of may
2
u/mediafred May 08 '26
Yeah that's what canada regularly deals with, we only just recently saw spring weather starting later end of april
1
u/JaxTango May 08 '26
Right???? That’s immediately what I thought. Growing up in central Canada you learn theres very little beauty in freezing your ass off.
1
u/SioVern May 08 '26
Or any country in the world that's North of 45. It's funny how people tend to think US and Canada are the only countries in the world 🤣 Canada is having it mild compared to places like Iceland, Greenland, Scandinavia or Northern Asia.
1
u/mediafred May 08 '26
Dont be like that, canada is known for their weather just as much as any of the other places you listed
27
u/Neckrongonekrypton May 08 '26
She’s not talkin bout dread. She’s just saying that without winter to provide contrast to the summer- it wouldn’t be the summer. Wouldn’t be a season people value or cherish.
I don’t dread winter, but I get a lil sad when the blooms die out and the city fucking hacks the nice yearly lil animal habitat that kinda pops up in the middle of a city. Bobcats, coyotes- all kinds of shit makes its home there.
Now it’s back and it’s made my little treks out there so much more joyous.
She’s ultimately not wrong. Things to us get boring if we are overexposed. Our nervous system has to find a baseline.
6
2
u/DrMindbendersMonocle May 09 '26
But speaking as someone who grew up without winters, its BS. People in Southern CA still enjoy their summers. They dont need harsh winters to appreciate it
1
2
u/KindImpression5651 May 09 '26
"I can't enjoy this steak unless I know I'll get to live decades after my teeth have fallen and it hurts to chew even with dentures" wtf
1
u/Neckrongonekrypton May 09 '26
You’re reducing the conversation. You and I both know that’s not how it goes.
1
u/FrankensteinsPonster May 08 '26
Sure, but I'd rather take an endless summer* that I don't appreciate quite so much (immortality) over freezing winters (death).
But I tend to disagree with basically any argument that says "death is what makes life worth living", so they have a difficult task winning me over in any case.
*Or rather, spring/fall if I had my druthers
2
u/AetherialWomble May 08 '26
Yeah, this whole argument is weird.
Would these people also refuse a drug that prevents all illnesses for the rest of their lives? Because "how can you appreciate being healthy, if you're never sick?"
Wild takes.
1
u/MsPandaLady May 09 '26
So its not about preference but appreciation. If every day was a perfect sunny 65 degrees(or whatever is your preferred day is) would you appreciation that weather or would it just be another day.
Knowing that one day that perfect weather will end makes you appreciate the perfect weather.
Now would I take the hum drum of immortality over dying(assuming I had loved ones with me), absolutely but I can appreciate the argument.
-5
u/12345noah May 08 '26
I understand what you’re saying and I agree to an extent. But personally I fucking despise winter with all my heart.
Also the season analogy kinda fails. Seasons are circular. Life isn’t. It’s basically summer for 80 years if you’re lucky then it’s winter forever. It’d rather have summer forever.
4
u/chouse33 May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26
But winter is death. So she’s totally right. If you knew you were gonna live forever, what’s the point of living? That’s literally what she’s trying to say.

I hate summer and crave for winter.

It wasn't meant to be taken literally
4
u/rcinmd May 08 '26
It's alarming that so many people think this is a literal expression and not an explanation of why she didn't want to live forever.
1
u/Dearth_lb May 09 '26
Yeah but how else could we pretend to be intellectual by picking apart absolutely anything?
2
2
u/DeadlyArrow27 May 08 '26
Or dread both because the heat sucks, but so does having to shovel your driveway and get ice off your windshield
3
u/Benyed123 May 08 '26
Yeah, it’s a nice sounding quote but when I heard it I said “nope” out loud.
1
u/Sickpup831 May 08 '26
Yeah I thought “then why do people move to places where it’s nice weather all year round?”
2
u/chouse33 May 08 '26
It’s not about the freaking weather people. Yes we can all agree winter sucks compared to summer. But that’s not what she’s talking about. She’s literally comparing summer and winter to life and death.
If you don’t know, the weather is changing eventually, you don’t appreciate the warm weather when you have it. It’s her argument to not live forever. You guys get this right? I’m really confused after reading this thread. Lol.

Fun thing about my Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). I used to be so down, so melancholy when the Winter Solstice would come around. It was truly depressive.
But my gf made me look at another way. I now enjoy it and plan a party/get together with friends and neighbors to celebrate the shortest day of the year. Get cozy for the longest night and celebrate the days getting longer on the morrow kinda of thing.
Unfortunately, I get mildly depressed when Summer Solstice arrives because now I'm aware the day light is growing shorter day by day.
I am so glad she still wants to be with me.
1
u/stillcreeping May 08 '26
People get used to things way too fast. A new fancy car only makes you happy for a while . Then you need something else to feel happy.
1
u/Fielton1 May 08 '26
But would summer be enjoyable if winter was never coming? If nothing ever changed and it just dragged on the same forever? That's what she's saying.
1
u/SirEnder2Me May 08 '26
No.
As someone who lives in a place that's always hot, I miss having the colder months.
I'm guessing you live in a place that has seasons though.
1
u/feralferrous May 08 '26
yeah, plenty of people enjoy living around the equator, where winter is not really a thing.

I'm not so sure about it. I live in Montreal and the city truly come alive during the summer. There's plenty of festival, events, restaurants with terrace and pedestrian streets. You can really tell that there's full of activity. I don't think that the culture would be the same without the harsh winter.
19
u/Nutzori May 08 '26
I mean the quote just means that you can appreciate things that are fleeting better than things you are used to all the time. A wagyu steak is so coveted because it is a rare treat to have, not something you eat every day.
As someone who lives where summer lasts all of 3 months of the year, yeah its fucking hype to get there every year and everyone lives it to the fullest.

u/Mysterious-Hyena2670 May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26
Dumbass people in the comment trying to argue that summer would still be fun without winter season and missing the point.
Although I think the metaphor from Once Upon a Time worked better.
“Life is made of little moments. Precious as diamonds. But imagine there was an endless sea of diamonds. They’d all be worthless. They’d be as common as sand.”
4
u/Wild-Way-9596 May 09 '26

so a child that never lives through bad times can't be happy because he only has happy memories and no bad ones? and that's just one example. maybe try to think before calling other people idiots, especially if you're that much of a moron yourself
edit: for equally moronic people not getting my analogy.
the metaphor was about being immortal or mortal. summer without winter = being immortal and summer before the winter = being mortal. and it was about whether she would be happy living forever and why she wouldn't want that. the point of her metaphor was that you appreciate life because you know there is an end to it. that is quite literally why i made the analogy with a child. a child is not happy because of the potential incoming pain or unhappiness. you don't need a negative (death, sadness, etc) to appreciate a positive (life, happiness, etc). if anyone is being too literal it is you since you can't even understand pretty basic analogies and metaphors. many people are not afraid of death, some even actively seek it, some are so afraid of it they don't live their lives fully, children are not aware of death and yet they are happy, and i'm not even talking about mental illness or just different perspectives and personalities etc. that metaphor is trying so hard to be wise and universal and it is neither. it's trying to be thought provoking but it is at best a quirky shower thought trying to sound philosophical.

u/GuitarCeilingFan May 09 '26

It’s not saying that you need sadness to appreciate joy. It’s saying that what makes summer special is the knowledge that it will end. So because you know it’s only temporary you’re motivated to enjoy as much as possible.
1
u/KindImpression5651 May 09 '26
so to enjoy being safe, you hire mercenaries to beat you up at random intervals of life?
1
u/Dveralazo May 08 '26
Nah,they still would be precious and unique for the different people that chose and pick them off the ground.

u/Proof-Smart May 08 '26
hurr durr immortality bad !
15
u/Key_Organization6760 May 08 '26
I mean technically it is. There are only so many neurons in your head after all, and as long as you’re making new memories, you constantly lose older memories, hence losing yourself in the process. Eventually after having seen and experienced for so long, days to months to years feel way shorter over time, you’ll be eventually bored of everything, you’ll crack, and break, and eventually lose what makes you human. And you’ll never die to end the ceaseless torment of nothingness. Immortality for a human is a literal nightmare.
4
u/Proof-Smart May 08 '26
immortality=/=invincibility just fyi. eternal youth does not mean you are indestructible. you are free to off yourself if you get too bored
4
u/crocodilecurly May 08 '26
I think the V1 does make you indestructible. We know regular V can regenerate people's brains/bodies like Sage and Kimiko. Bombsight had a whole fight with Soldier Boy and only saw his blood for the first time in who knows how long after getting the V1 burned out of his bloodstream. Usually I'd say that's right but idk if that's the case with this show.
2
u/Reyne-TheAbyss May 08 '26

u/trmnl_cmdr May 08 '26
A neuron isn’t a bit, though. It doesn’t just do the one thing. Your memories are encoded in the relationships between neurons, and with 86 billion neurons, a lot of different kinds of connections can be made.
1
1
u/HeraThere May 09 '26
You're making lots of assumptions.
Immortality would be far from a nightmare for me.
Also there have been suggested that there is no limit to human memory storage.
1
u/kitsunekratom May 08 '26
Not the point, they were making fun of the poor writing to get their own point across, which living is only nice if you know you'll die/age by giving an example everyone can relate to but also easily discredit because summer is awesome despite winter. You don't need winter to enjoy summer. It's dumb and reductive.
1
u/Frikcha May 08 '26
I don't care I want to watch a million movies and play every video game and eat every food and visit every interesting location on earth. Fuck dying, fuck being graceful about dying. Put my head in a jar and wheel me around until the planet explodes and then even then I can just float around in space until I turn into a Kars rock and then 800 trillion eons later I can be awakened as an ancient idol and used to open a hell-gate to the deathverse and adjudicate the war between the {| || ]=--O ,> and the ~~|~||XN\N\#
1
u/getrektscrub99 May 08 '26
I agree with the dormant part the most lol, I feel like the best case scenario would be to automatically wake up whenever some incredibly interesting event is happening, be briefed on it, and given the opportunity to return to dormancy whenever
0
u/Sponge56 May 08 '26
That’s not true tho there would be something eventually that could kill you, you can chose when and how you die that seems like a no brainer to me
0
u/QfromMars2 May 08 '26
Speculation. There are healthy old people that Like to live and whoms memories are formed through decades of wonderful stuff as well as accepting losses.
A V-1 Supe who stays Forever youthful and Health can have so many wonderful memories and bring joy to so many people. Neglecting that is forcing a traditional monogamous Family as Sole purpose in life. And even then, there are widows that sometimes thrive even without their original Partner. Its just bad writing on top of bad writing.

Yeah it was kinda nice in this episode but this trope is getting very very over done atp. Even Solider Boy somewhat regrets living as long as he has. It would be nice to get a character that DOESN’T regret becoming immortal.
This isn’t a criticism about The Boys btw, its just literally every immortality story for like 5 years. Considering it’s been the main desire of most people for …. Well ever, i think there should be some immortals who are happy with themselves

I consider it one of the greatest con jobs humanity is pulling on ourselves. The amount of people that will angrily defend the concept of death when I bring this up blows my mind every time.
Lifespans used to be shorter, random disease used to take most people from us before adulthood. The bodies degradation due to aging is just another degenerative disease we have yet to solve. The more resources we as a species put towards solving that problem the sooner we can move on to other things.
The difference of but a day might prove crucial in which side of that line you find yourself. Either moving forward indefinitely into the future, or being lost forever into the abyss.
But gosh you’d get bored, or tired of living. 80 years is the perfect amount of living, and I’ve made that assessment using logic and it just so happened to coincide with current medical technologies. I’ve met old people who want to die so that proves immortality is bad. Never mind those people were half blind, in chronic pain, and mostly bound to a wheelchair. I’m sure that if even if their bodies were in perfect condition they would still want to die. Death is good.
I love these people in my life but I hate this attitude. I literally cannot understand the cognitive dissonance required to hold this view.

I can just see it. Homelander facing off against Butcher, Hughie screaming behind a rock or something. HL corners B and starts monologing when suddenly he stops, his eyes go wide as his body slumps and then is lifted off the ground to reveal Marie Moreau, with a blood spike through the back of HLs head.
