Parking Ticket Reduction?!

I got a parking ticket in Hull for exceeding the 2 hr posted time. I am guilty but curious if they are lenient for reducing the fine? I’ve scanned this sub and see most ppl say that you have to show up to court to plead your case but there was a couple mentions that somebody will call you first to hear you out. I’m not interested in actually going to court so hoping that I would get a call first, plead my BS defence (see below) and see where that goes… This is my first ticket on the Gatineau side but Ottawa has made it very easy to cut the ticket in half (I think that leads to more ppl actually paying them).

What are the chances if I contest it by saying that I moved my car further down the road but didn’t realize that I had to move it to a different block.

Thanks all!

Buck - barbier / Coiffeur

Salut 👋

Thank u :)🙏

Quebec ER wait tracker app can now notify you when a given hospital calms down

A while back I posted the ER tracker I built from Quebec's open data. Still working on it, so here's an update.

When you open it you just see the ERs near you, sorted by how busy they are right now, with the ministry's estimated wait to see a doctor next to each one. No account or sign up, and your location never leaves your phone.

The main new thing: I kept refreshing it waiting for my local ER to calm down, so now you can tap the bell on an ER and it pings you the first hour it goes green. Just once, then it stays quiet until it fills up and calms down again.

Also added a kids toggle that only shows pediatric ERs, and a tab for walk-in clinics near you that still have appointments this week. Data refreshes every 15 min.

If it's serious, go to the closest one, triage decides who's seen first. This is for the sprained ankle at 8pm kind of choice.

Shout out to those who don't hesitate to get involved.

I just want to say a thanks to those others who stopped and got involved in an emergency situation on the Voyageurs Pathway just east of Portage Bridge this morning. You were all great and didn't hesitate - especially the woman on the scooter with the Skate Canada jacket. And a shoutout to the paramedics who took over.

Does anyone know what happened? Remembered I hadn’t been there in a while, and while making a plan to go this week saw they’d been “temporarily” closed since February! Did they just not recover?

Recommendations: Plumber with Century-Home Experience (Templeton)

Bonjour, Gatineau!

Version anglaise ci-dessous.

My fiance and I purchased a home from the 1930s in Templeton and we are searching for a plumber or plumbing business with century-home experience. We have cast iron pipes and we are looking to perform a cleaning using a chain knockers and potentially replace the sewer stack depending on cost. Any recommendations on who to use?

Looking for a good rec. Osteopath in the Ottawa area

Hi guys, I’m looking for good recommendations for an Osteopath type of practitioner in Ottawa.

I used to have one in Toronto and he would work my nervous system like it was magic, a session would run for 45 to 1h, from my pov he’d just be resting his hands for a few minutes in key areas all over the body, I’d feel so at ease I’d often fall asleep.

I could feel better right after leaving a session with this sense of lightness, feeling rejuvenated.
For a week after I’d feel my body tweak and adjusting subconsciously to the newly upgrade I just had in my nervous system.

This is the best I can explain my experience.

So far it’s been the only thing that’s done it for me.

Does anyone know of any similar practice or have had a similar experience in the Ottawa/Gatineau area?

I’d greatly appreciate it 🙏🏽
Good day! ☀️

Eel Stone Effigy

Has anyone noticed the long eel stone effigy at the stromatolites next to the Champlain Bridge? Seems to be the longest in a river that I could find. Stones have been cleared for netting and stones placed for harpooning. The ducks and egrets confirm it is still good for fishing, even with the eels gone. The mussels are still fished by birds too. Slightly upriver is a promontory with placed flat rocks near the parking lot. Downriver seem to be pools or funnels for trapping more fish along the shore. May be a similar system on the south shore near Riopelle and Cunningham Islands.

ON Driver Contesting QC Speeding Ticket (133 in 100): Is paying legal fees to drop demerits worth it if insurance still counts it as a 2nd minor conviction?

Hi everyone,

I’m an Ontario driver who recently received a speeding ticket in Quebec for driving 133 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

The Case Details:
• Quebec Penalty: $288 fine + 3 demerit points.
• Ontario Impact: Converts to 4 demerit points on my Ontario MTO driving record under the provincial reciprocal agreement.
• Driving History: I already have 1 prior speeding conviction in Ontario (65 km/h in a 50 km/h zone), which I previously pleaded guilty to.

My Initial Plan:
Submit a "Not Guilty" plea within 30 days, request full disclosure of evidence (police officer’s notes, radar calibration logs), and wait to see the evidence before hiring legal representation to negotiate with the prosecutor.

The Core Dilemma — Is it worth paying to fight it?
Since Ontario insurance companies care primarily about CONVICTION COUNT rather than demerit points (and both 15 over and 33 over are generally classed as "minor convictions"):
• If the ticket isn't dismissed completely, negotiating down to a lower speed bracket (e.g., 114 km/h in a 100 zone / 14 km/h over) gets rid of the demerit points, BUT it still registers on my MTO record as a second minor conviction.
• A second minor conviction within 3 years often triggers a significant jump in annual insurance premiums across all auto insurance providers in Ontario.

Questions for the community:
1. Is it worth paying a traffic law firm/paralegal to negotiate if the best outcome is a reduced speed (114 km/h)? Does having a 2nd minor conviction recorded at a lower speed (14 over) save enough on insurance to justify legal fees, or do insurers treat a 2nd conviction identically regardless of the exact speed over?
2. Timing & Evidence: Is it reasonable to wait until I receive the evidence package myself before hiring a firm, or should I hire them right away to manage the file?

Appreciate any advice or shared experiences!

Countless hours of free labor trying to return cans and bottles through these store machines. They call it “recycling passion” and want to cap it at $25. They are doing us a favor by giving us after-tax money back we already paid. Some joke 🤬

Drywalling contractors?

I'm looking to finish my basement and my dad was supposed to come help me with the drywall, but unfortunately he can't make it. I've already purchased the drywall and carried it to the basement, but it seems to be a daunting task to do myself, so I'd be looking to potentially hire someone to do the work. It would be to hang the already purchased drywall and finish (mud and tape). The basement is small, about 225 square feet, and a set of stairs would need to be drywalled as well. I've purchased 36 sheets of 4x8 drywall if that gives a better idea of the size of the job. If you're a contractor who's interested or know of anyone who would be, feel free to give me a quote or put me in touch!
