Troubleshooting Testing gb games
I already have a thread but i feel it wasn't conclusive.
Is getting passed the title screen and playing a game boy game for about a minute or under sufficient to test if the game is working. Not referring to batteries I'm talking roms and other additional chips related other than saving.
All i own is a game boy dmg, pocket and advance. No computers or flashers/rippers

A minute is usually fine, but the title screen alone doesn’t touch much of the cart. Bigger games swap in different parts of the ROM as you move to new areas, so a bad chip or dirty contacts tend to show up at a level transition, a new area or the save/menu screen. My quick test is: boot, start a new game, get through one level or area change, open the pause menu, done. If it freezes or glitches at random, clean the contacts with isopropyl first before you assume the cart is bad. That fixes most of them.

the problem is I'm not that good at playing the games enough to do that.
also again I'm talking about the roms not the save functions i have some games that don't have a save function

I'd say starting screen, start the game, pause, and resume to keep playing. I had a copy of marble madness that glitched out but only after resuming from being paused so now I always check that.

are you saying what i said is sufficient with testing pausing too?

I think so, I haven't had a game fail halfway through playing and I've amassed over 100+ carts over the years. All the ones I've come across that did't work, even with cleaning, were usually on boot, odd pixelation right away on the start screen or first level, crashing when saving or the one odd one after resuming from pause.

I'd say yes. A minute or so is more than enough to check a game runs with no issues like graphic glitches.
