Opinion First Episode

Just started the show and it’s great so far except for the wife with her husband and kids in the rv. So far she’s just a compete mess of a character. I can already tell she’s gonna be annoying the whole time. The scene where the tree is in the road and they see a bunch of crows she’s the only one freaking out hurrying the dad and son back to the car insinuating a panic for some reason.

Theory I wanna know if I’m alone in that theory [spoilers] Spoiler

So I wanna know if I’m the only one that believe that from when the children were mentioned.
What if the monsters are the children?
Like they roam around wanting to play. They wear these weird outfits that could be what they’d like to be when they grew up. A bride, a nurse, someone who always smiles. Sounds like a child’s fantasy. They sit in the playground, they have a routine.
That’s my n.01

My n.02 is that the MIY might actually be the one who got away, saying Tabitha is his oldest friend. He might actually be the one who wasn’t sacrificed? He might be doing all that (with some entity’s help maybe who grants him powers) to punish the ones who sacrificed his friends.

And my n.03 (I’m gonna get downvoted?)
Really is it a stretch that Tabitha and Jade ARE the ones who sacrificed the children? Cause it seems like they are the ones in “limbo” living “forever” but different, unable to remember and the MIY has it out for them. IF he is the one watched all the sacrifices, he can be stuck there and keep bringing them back for punishment, so that they remember and have guilt.

Soooo… That’s about it I guess, I wanna know what everyone thinks, I really do.

Episode / Scene Talk S2E2 Boyd & Martin

Im so confused on why Boyd didn’t find it even a little bit suspicious that a man chained to a wall was somehow able to toss him a rope down the hole? Like as soon as he got up that was my first thought. So him trusting him and feeling obligated even help just doesn’t make sense to me 😭

Opinion Boyd's constant yelling is getting to me.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to post this here, but I'm half way through season 3 and Boyd's constant yelling and going off is getting really annoying. Like bro needs to take his own advice and calm the f down. If the monsters don't get him, high blood pressure will.

Question Character discussion

Honestly if jade doesn’t die soon I might have to tap out on the show early, I think they might’ve gone too overboard with his character I know we’re supposed to hate him but it’s making me so mad he hasn’t gotten his yet😭 they set it up like he’s getting a crazy kill but I’m still waiting for it. PLEASE TELL ME HES NOT IN THE WHOLE SHOW

Question Who would be Boyd’s 2nd Deputy if he had one?

I’m only in season 2 so if he ends up getting a second one don’t tell me please. But I’ve been wondering who should be the 2nd deputy? I’d imagine Jim as of now

Opinion Is “It’s not your fault” an intentional running gag by the writers?

Started bingeing this show out of nowhere and I love the ride. But how many scenes are dedicated to the characters crying then someone comforting them saying it’s not your fault???

Question Sooo thinking of Ethan….

Are we in a Jacobs Ladder situation? Like Ethan is processing the trauma of the baby and has made up this whole thing?

Halfway thru season 2, if it makes a difference. I am new to the sub, maybe the question has been posed already.

Criticism Still pretty early

Honestly just kind of bullshitting lol but the kid Ethan drives me kinda nuts lol idk if it’s the way they wrote the character or maybe he’s too inexperienced (which is fair he’s like 6 lol) but he’s so whiny with every line delivery

Opinion Acosta Rant

I just binged seasons 1-3 and also just joined the sub, so I apologize if this is repetitive, but I am so annoyed by this character right now. I'm starting the 4th season now and am at the point where Acosta steals the ambulance to drive in loops.

Obviously there are other examples of her being extremely unlikeable, but going on a rant about how she's a good person, and is probably the only good person in the town since she's the only one who hasn't resigned herself to being stuck, just to then immediately ignore a distressed boy on the side of the road, whom she knows to be an actual member of the community? I haven't been that annoyed by a fictional character since my last rewatch of The Walking Dead.

Not to mention her rant to Boyd about how she's a "good cop," just to then very shortly afterwards point her weapon at the town's only doctor, whom she knows is only there to try and help. At least the town's other characters who make horrible decisions are driven by a desire to help others, or some sort of manipulation, but she's completely driven by fear, ego, anger, and a desire to help herself.

Even before she becomes aware of the monsters and the town, the first thing she does is handcuff an injured woman to a wall for trying to warn them, and then abandon her. And not once have I seen her show any remorse or accountability for that. She states she's sorry for what happened after, but never seems to mean it, especially since her apologizes always come paired with justifications and another ego trip.

Even if they try to write a redemption arc for her, they've made her so unlikeable that I'm not sure I'll be able to buy it. I can only imagine at this point that her role is to sow chaos, and then hopefully die a Dale-like death.

Theory Unserious Theory- it’s about COVID in 2020.

Hear me out

I can’t help but keep feeling like this show is an allegory for Covid, and the 2020 lockdown quarantine era.

When Ethan says to his mom that they never play games around the table or spend time together in the real world, reminds me of the quality time we spent with our families/partners/roommates during quarantine.

The monsters are the disease that only “come in” if you let them…

If you don’t follow the rules (don’t wear a mask=leave doors open after dark), you ruin it for everybody

Before we had a vaccine it was chaotic; hospitals were overrun, people lost loved ones over FaceTime, same vibe of hopelessness and chaos in fromville.

Question What’s “Off” About From?

I have been binge watching From the last few days, and about to watch S1 Ep10. I found it on the Top 10 of Netflix and saw a new season, so I thought it must be decent.

I really enjoy the show but something is off… I don’t know if it’s the acting, the writing, or something else. The overall idea and plot is great and keeps me watching, but something is off.

I have seen quite a few posts about the acting, but not recent, and after my wife agreed something is off, we thought we’d ask Reddit. My thought is, a lot of the script is written in a way that no one would really speak, and my wife thinks just bad acting.

What is “off” about From?

Opinion Elgin & Sara

Elgin makes me soooo sad. Like he is so sweet and kind. He just wanted to help and it was the voices that made him do it. I’m too much of an empath for this. Same thing with Sara….. makes me wanna cry

Opinion I just wish we got more of him Spoiler

Post image

I'm sorry, Julia Doyle seems like a fine actor and I think she is good at portraying the innocent christian girl, or rather the evil mf pretending to be an innocent christian girl, but as soon as the mask falls, I just wish the old guy appeared. Doug Hughes has so much more fun with the whole thing, there is this malicious glee to the way he carries himself that still has some subtlety to it, and it is so much better at selling the thing that it needs to sell: that this is all play for him, and that he is no rush to do anything because of how heavily the cards are stacked in his favor. He tells Jim he liked him, but because he is just a bit more held back/detached about it, it really comes off like he views the people of the town like they're rats in a ratrace.

Like, all writing shit aside like how weirdly he goes about whatever he is doing in the town, his Sophie form is almost a different character because of how WOOOOO LOOK HOW EVIL I AM WOOO her actor gets. Then again writing shit is part of this problem, because Sophie is given so little to do and isn't allowed to be nearly as brutal, but I really think she loses what makes MIY intimidating behavior-wise by trying too hard.

Theory Jamie McGuire (Smiley) actually has a great smile

I figured it out!! After speedrunning From, I believe I have pinpointed what is unnerving about his performance. It’s the mismatch between the eyes and smile, as shown in How I Met Your Mother. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3HCuxEi3uX8&ra=m

Opinion Are we overlooking the patterns?

At what point do we start questioning what we’ve been told and what we’re seeing in the series?

I’ve been thinking about how the characters are trying to figure out what’s happening, and I wonder if we’re doing the same thing as the audience. We’re seeing all these different storylines, but are we really questioning how they might connect? I’ve seen people get frustrated with storylines they think were abandoned or never explained. But what if we’re looking at them separately when they’re actually connected? We might see the outcome of something in one episode and not understand what led to it until several episodes later. Sometimes what happens later gives us a completely different understanding of something we already watched. Take the nightmare storyline from S2. We thought that was over, but then we see something similar happening at the settlement in S4.

And what if some of these situations are showing us things that happened around the original sacrifice? Look at Reggie blaming Boyd for Paula’s death and trying to kill him. How is that any different from what we learned about the townspeople blaming Jade in his previous lives? Then there’s Boyd torturing Elgin to find Fatima, and Sara giving Elgin an eye injury similar to what we saw in one of Jade’s past incarnations. Could what happened to Elgin give us an idea of what might’ve happened to Jade?

I think just like Boyd and Victor, we should be looking for these patterns too. When Boyd learned what Elgin was experiencing, he went to Sara because he recognized the similarities between their situations. We actually have an advantage the characters don’t because we get to see things happening to different people that they themselves don’t know about. If the characters are using past experiences to understand what’s happening, why shouldn’t we use what we’re seeing now to understand what might’ve happened in the origin story?

I think sometimes we focus so much on Tabitha and Jade because we know they’re connected to the original story that we overlook what the other characters might be showing us through their own experiences.

I’m curious to know what plot points or storylines others think were abandoned or left unexplained.

Opinion My first head scratcher with this show was THE BOX.

I honestly thought they would be safe in the box, and so I was confused by why it's a punishment.

Then the monsters destroyed the box to get at the guy inside...

Why close the box? Or even make a box at all? Why not tie the person to a pole or a chair? Having to destroy and rebuild the box every time it's used is nutty.

Tying them to a pole next to or even inside of their grave makes more sense. You don't have to clean and rebuild a giant box AND carry gore halfway through town in a wheelbarrow every single time you use it.

I mean, it was a pretty big clue very early that the people in the town have basically zero foresight.
