Frat Stuff bro there is deadass a 45 year old trying to rush rn

only reason he’s in college now is because he did 20 years in the military apparently. obviously nobody is interested in bidding a 45 year old guy with a wife and kids and a mortgage but he’s persistent lol. he keeps following random members on instagram and asking when the next rush event is lmao. bro is actually a meme.

for context we’re at a slightly smaller school, so this isn’t like some dipshit at ASU or whatever, but still like bro go home to your family man 😭

He is 72 and still won’t talk about rituals or any details. He is the black man on the far left. He was raised in the projects of Memphis and was recruited to Yale after the Military.

Frat Stuff Just met an uber driver who thrifted a Sig Chi shirt

Just got picked up from the airport. Driver was a balding chubby brown guy wearing a shirt with Sig Chi letters stitched on. Recent immigrant.

I asked him when he was in the frat and he looked at me blankly.

For context I was a KSig in college. He asked what I was talking about, and I had to explain what a frat was. I just said it was a type of college club for men and he got genuinely upset.

He spent the next 5 minutes talking in broken English about how he hates gay people. Because I said men’s club. Misunderstanding. Now we are sitting in silence.

Frat Stuff Melted recliner - need chem majors

Post image

The other night my roommate and I got hammered and decided to set fire to our recliner in the driveway (10/10 would do again). But now we’ve got a puddle of melted recliner that’s permanently stuck to the driveway. Any chemical we can buy to get rid of this?

Frat Stuff Pledging broke my weiner

Currently in week 8 as a pledge and this shit is absolutely killing my test. I sleep like shit, barely eat and when I do it’s fast food, vape and smoke non stop to deal with the constant stress. It’s crazy to me because before I started pledging I was going crazy with all these new girls but now I can see an absolute rocket and not even gaf. Im so beat that I dont even care about the sorority girls throwing themselves at me and have made 0 attempts to hookup with any girls in like 2 months. Hopefully this shit is temporary but living like a low T fag absolutely blows

Frat Stuff This new generation is gay

I could just be old and out of touch but all this ferda and huzz shit so unfunny. I can’t tell if it’s ironic or not either. What happened to just saying something’s frat. Idk i don’t get it. Seems like most dudes in fraternity are severely not frat these days.

Frat Stuff Do any fraternity houses still have open shower rooms??

My dad was telling me that when he was in a frat in college their house had a totally open shower room that just had shower heads no curtains or stalls, so you just showered in front of everybody lmfao I figured no one has those anymore at least that I know of but am I wrong? Are those still a thing

Frat Stuff Is that even hazing?

Long time listener first time caller.

So I've seen posts about the hazing that's obviously way out of line.

But then I hear about chapters getting in trouble for stuff like mandatory ties, study hall on Wednesdays, wearing your letters on a certain day, morning jogs... I would call it more a "rite of passage."

Have you guys seen chapters get nailed for "hazing" that was not really hazing?

Frat Stuff How bad is hazing at certain schools?

I’m a high school Senior starting college apps. And I know I wanna rush. How’s hazing at schools like VT and UMD, or even smaller schools like Bucknell or Temple? Is it worse than a lax locker room?

Frat Stuff Am I the only one who thinks getting hazed was fun?

With this new hazing video going viral, I can’t help but look back on pledging with fond memories. Yea, in the moment getting hazed sucked, but nobody got hurt and our pledge class bonded over it. Most of the stuff was really funny and makes for a great story. Being forced to listen to “Come on Ilene“ on blast while we all slept in a tiny room is one of my fondest memories.

Frat Stuff Just became President, already having issues with members not paying dues, any advice?

I just got elected president of my chapter about 2 months ago. Now all the presidents before me did warn me that the position is incredibly hard and that it required a lot of work, but none of them had to deal with what I’m currently dealing with atm.

The last treasurer and president didn’t communicate well, so when I became president, I noticed immediately that over $3k was missing from our account.

I found out after a lot of time that the money was missing due to the chapter covering 6 members’ dues, with the expectation that the members would pay the chapter back, they ofc did not.

Trying to get that money back has been harder than pulling teeth it feels. I keep having members tell me they’ll do it and then not. One member keeps leaving me on seen and hasn’t attended chapter so I haven’t had the opportunity to take to him one on one, plus he’s gave me a lot of attitude the only time he did respond to my text and since has voluntarily gone inactive.

I did warn the chapter that anyone who hasn’t paid dues by two weeks from now would face suspension, but I don’t want to come across as authoritative or as a hard ass.

Any advice for this situation?

TL;DR: Members haven’t paid their past dues and the chapter had to cover it. The members were supposed to pay the chapter back but did not, and are now being incredibly hard to reach. Some members have gone inactive just to they don’t have to pay this term’s dues and so they can avoid paying the dues they owe it seems. Any advise?

Frat Stuff How to get a brother laid?

Rushing this fraternity as a pledge and this brother is super shy to talk to girls. Any advice on how I can help him approach better. I feel like with current generation and social media it is way harder unless someone disagrees? How common was getting laid for you by semester in college for any good reference

Frat Stuff What was your fraternity nickname (if you had one)?

Mine was Waldo because while pledging, I was so involved with our student activities board that I was missing about half the time. I was there for the mandatory stuff, but the optional or fun things, I was running events on campus. Oops!

Frat Stuff I was at a rush event last night, had a great time with the brothers but one of the brothers who I know best said I’m a great guy if I do or do not get a bid we should definitely connect. But the main problem is he kept repeating it to me like I might not get a bid but idk. What do you guys think

Frat Stuff How to Depledge

My roommate and friend from high school crossed for this frat last spring quarter and this fall quarter he invited me to rush. I was never interested in greek life but since he invited me I thought I’d try it out. I passed the screening and all that and now I’m currently starting week 4 of the pledge process. More than ever I want to drop. We started off as a class of 5 but the two I got along with best dropped. The hazing has been ramping up in intensity and I’m starting to wonder if its worth it? The fraternity isn’t even recognized by the school due to severe hazing incidents in the past and it has taken a toll on my mental and grades. I know pledging isn’t supposed to be easy but doing all this for “friends” and “connections” just doesn’t align with my goals. Its weird because my friend was able to do it but since hes a bro he also partakes in the hazing 😭 The The only reason I’ve kept going was a mixture of pride and pressure i felt from my friend, big bro, and pd.

How can I go about dropping without leaving bad blood behind?

Frat Stuff Brothers don't talk to women

Every time I'm at a party half these mfs are all clustered together like it's a high school dance. Their excuse is that "women are scary" I love them but it pisses me off sometimes. I'm not asking them to become Hugh Hefner overnight, they should at least be able to talk to them platonically. An older brother suggested I just publicly shame them, but I'm hesitant on that idea. What have you guys done?

Frat Stuff You can say “no” and that’s enough

If you’re at a crazy frat party, and everyone’s doing it, you have the autonomy to say no. You don’t have to engage in dangerous behavior. If you feel pressured to participate, a school with a crazy Greek-life culture isn’t the right fit for you.

Frat Stuff How is it decided who lives in house?

At my school a good amount of the frats have 100-200+ brothers. Obviously no house is going to have the capacity for that. How is it determined who gets to live in house and how hard is it to get the opportunity?

Frat Stuff Getting belittled in my fraternity

Recently was initiated into my fraternity. Throughout pledgeship we had to get signatures from all the actives. And from time to time, I would mess up saying their last name. 99% of guys would get frustrated in the moment, but would forget about it minutes later, and go back to being your friend. This one guy, I messed up his last name, and he’s made it his mission to ruin my night every time we see each other. This would go on throughout pledgeship, and I couldn’t really do anything because of pledgeship, but now that I’m an active, it’s honestly just become harassment at this point. The guy has threatened me multiple times, and laid hands on me one time, choking me out, until one of my brothers told him to fuck off. I stood up for myself telling him to leave me alone, that he’s for some reason taking every little insecurity about himself out on me. Granted, this guys a senior(loser still hanging around a fraternity), so I’m not that concerned, but like it just feels like a obligation every time I have to go to the house now, it was a place where I could hangout and relax to get away from school. I told one of the execs about it, and he said he would talk to him. But if he continues with this bullshit I’m gunna tell the president, not standing for this bullshit anymore. Might even bring it up in chapter meeting, any advice on what to say/do?

Frat Stuff Are you in contact with your brothers long after graduation?

I'll be 65 in October and I feel really fortunate and unique. I have a group of about 60 Fratenity Brothers that I went to school with at Cal poly Pomona Sigma Nu in the 80s who are regularly in touch. We have a text thread that's been going for about 10 years, we have an annual minor league baseball game and minor-league hockey game that is very well attended each year. We have about 13 of us who go to an annual ski trip every year and we just had a golf outing with 12 of us. I played golf with three fraternity brothers last Sunday and had lunch with another one yesterday. Are you in touch with your brothers? I feel particularly fortunate.
