I spend a lot of time in Nuuksio and Sipoonkorpi national parks. Every time I go I see dog shit and dog shit bags (full of dog shit) left beside the trails.
The idea of national parks (and ALL nature areas) is that You are meant to leave no trace. National parks are protected forests and you are ALWAYS meant to Take your trash with.
Here in Finland we are allowed to walk our dogs in the national parks, as long as they are on leashes and that you will take their shit with you.
I am very tired of carrying other peoples dogs shit out of the parks. Please do not walk your dogs in national parks if you are not prepared to carry their bags of shit out with you.
Edit to clarify: what I am seeing most is poop already in bags left on the trails. Hanging on signs, left at fireplaces, beside the trails, attached to tree branches. Like, really, Why?? Who are you expecting will clean it for you?

I know it's probably a translation error but was fun to see.

Nowadays, I feel like I'm driving a car in Russia. I leave work at night on weekends by car, and these taxis drive like lunatics. They play on their phones, zig-zag, invade the left lane, and tailgate. The taxi service has decreased in quality a lot. I remember when I arrived in Finland, a nice black taxi greeted us. We felt like president at the back of taxi, while driver had suit etc. Bolt/Uber has been around since people wanted to go from one point to another in a cheapest way. It also gave work opportunities to many. But unfortunately, I feel like we can't use cheapness to justify this nonsense.

Hi everyone,
I'm disputing a debt claimed by a debt collection agency on behalf of a gym chain and would appreciate advice from anyone familiar with Finnish consumer law.
I joined the gym in January 2020. During the COVID lockdown, I emailed them on 15 April 2020 asking whether my membership could be suspended but never received a response. Their auto-reply said the gym was temporarily closed.
In 2026, one debt agency contacted me about unpaid membership fees from 2022 to 2024: approximately €699 in principal and €1,378 including interest and collection costs. The gym also said they could no longer access historical emails due to a system change.
My main concerns:
My questions:
I'm not trying to avoid legitimate debts, but I don't think I should have to pay substantial accumulated charges without evidence that my suspension request, the billing and collection were handled properly.
Thanks for any advice or relevant case law!

Hello guys. I'm posting this here to ask if somebody is also studying here. I'm enrolled in a Finnish course with classes on Tuesday and Thursday. The teacher told us she doesn't even know if the next class on Thursday will happen.
As it is, I (and other students) only went through half of the course so I'm interested in getting a refund. I want to ask if there are people in this sub who are also affected and if we can do something together about this (say file a common complaint to the consumer protection or similar). I also want to ask if anyone has gone through the same thing with other schools and what happened with your enrollment and money?

Hi, this is recurring post to include some information about frequently asked questions in r/Finland. Please check the links first before asking trivial questions.
You can ask here in comments, or create a new post.
Remember that there is a very large chance that someone has already asked the question you're going to ask and gotten an answer, so please read our FAQ, search the sub, and Google before asking. We have very helpful users here that like to answer questions so out of respect for their time, search first. Thanks!
If you're asking about moving to Finland, please specify whether you're an EU citizen or not. Many laws and procedures are different for EU citizens and non-EU citizens. When giving advice, please pay attention to the status of the person in question.

Greetings, everyone!!〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜
I'm Kin Quay, a writer with coutless amount of question about Finland and its culture. ⚞^. .^⚟
Why am I interested in Finland? Well, I'm simply in love with it! So I picked Finland as a setting for my next book series. I do enjoy doing my research, but I'm not entirely content with it: feels like I'm missing … a lot of things.¯_ (ᵕ—ᴗ—)_/¯So I've decided to ask questions here! It's better to learn things from you all then from anybody else. (⸝⸝> ᴗ•⸝⸝)
I will come with a question every week. ᓚ₍ ^. ̫ .^₎ The question of this week is:
What is the best thing about Finland? What makes you proud of it or simply happy? Don't overthink it!(˶•̀ ᎑-˶)
Thank you all in advance⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

Hi everyone, winter is almost here but I wanted to take advantage of these last days of autumn before closing the car in the garage. This summer I had a lot of fun driving on the porkkalantie. Do you know any similar, perhaps scenic, roads to travel with a small 90's Japanese sports car? Maybe with a few twists and turns. I live in the capital city area, but I can also go out a bit further on Sundays. And if anyone wants to join me for a Sunday outing, you're welcome.

Can anyone share if they know a cheaper alternative to Paulig Reykjavik ground coffee? It has toffee notes and tastes amazing, but I'd rather spend 5-6 euros per pack. Or just any good coffee from Lidl, Prisma
Edit: Yo everyone I know it is on sale, that's what I'm asking what's the alternative is for when it is not on sale yo 😭✌🏻

I raised this question in my comment on another post and received one (good) response, but my question was off-topic and merits a post in itself. I am interested by your multi-party system. Our system in the UK has traditionally been dominated by two broad-based parties but over the past few years - indeed I would argue since 2016 - this has been fragmenting. There is some discussion of electoral reform and moving from our current system of “the-winner-takes-it-all” First Past The Post (simple plurality) towards a more proportional system.
Anyway, my politics might best be described as liberal-conservative: I am liberal on social issues, but value history and tradition and gradual but lasting reforms over abstract blueprints for change; I support a strong defence policy with well-equipped Armed Forces; I am for a mixed economy (including small and medium sized enterprises and a co-operative sector) and a decent, compassionate social safety net; I am pro-European (having voted against Brexit) but I am critical of many aspects of the EU; I place a high emphasis on protecting the environment; I am strongly patriotic but support an inclusive patriotism rather than narrow or xenophobic nationalism.
Which of your parties do you think would be closest to my outlook?

good afternoon!
wondering if u know any adapter for sink tap to dishwasher pipe connection.
i went to power, holding, they don’t have it and the one online I find is like over 30 euro…
also if the apartment doesn’t have that water supply pipe under the sink, does the tenant have the right to ask for pipe work to be done?
have a good day!

A potential supervisor for a doctoral program asked me to send a statement of purpose and CV.
Now a CV is kind of standard.
But my statement of purpose is tailored for US programs where they care about narrative so it’s usually a 2 page long “science story”
How differently should I reformat my SOP for Finnish programs.
They are aware that my educational background is from the US so I’m not sure if they want a traditional US SOP.
The university website for the doctoral program mentions something called a letter of motivation for conducting doctoral research which is 2000 characters.
But in the email he specifically asked for an SOP which is the US term for it.
I’m not sure what to send because if he’s expecting something that’s 2000 characters, and I send something that’s 2 pages long, that’d be overkill, and vice versa is true.
I mention my background because the program is already making an exception for me not having a masters because US PhDs people usually apply without a masters, and because of my research experience.
Also another edit, the PI already saw my CV which is why he’s interested in interviewing me, the post doc interviewing me is asking for my CV and and SoP.

I know the question may sound odd, but since Finland is the happiest country in the world I wonder if it is common for marriages to fall apart the same way it happens in similar countries.
