Considering moving from a Sequoia to a FJ cruiser as a two vehicle for a popup. Blind spots and other considerations?

• Upvotes

As the title suggests, I'm considering moving from a '06 Sequoia to an '07 cruiser.

My main reason for operating is I don't really need all the space of the Sequoia and mine is getting long in the tooth.

I fixed pretty much everything on the Sequoia like ball joints and fluids and timing belt. So it's reliable, but nearing 300k miles.

I am towing a 3500 lb camper a handful of times a year. But sometimes likely in Baja on sand. My biggest concern is how suitable it is is a tow vehicle including the concerns I've seen about blind spots. I haven't test drove one yet. But even when I do, I won't be doing it with a trailer. I would greatly appreciate any input.

This clicking sound near the glove box just started on my 2007 with 88k. It happens with the ac on or off. Any thoughts on what could be?

Wheel bearing replacement cost?

So my local chain tire store/service place said I need drivers front wheel bearing replaced. It’s not making sounds as of yet. 200K miles. I should have had him show me the wobble while it was on the lift, but I suspect he’s correct. My question is the cost, they quoted a little over $1000, including alignment. Seems a bit high? What do you all think?

Why is undercoating the new meta?

Ok, I get that people have always undercoated vehicles. But back in the 2010’s when I bought my FJ, almost no one talked about undercoating. Now every other post is about rust or undercoating.

Is this knowledge that has finally propagated? Is it because the FJ is old enough where the rigs are separated by those that have it and those which don’t?

And I get why you would want to undercoat, it’s prob the single most important thing outside oil changes you want to do to your truck.

But literally now it feels like every Toyota owner of FJ and other vehicles is talking about undercoating.

Seriously I just got my GX undercoated and there were two FJ’s in line after me to get Woolwax

Are people waking up to the fact that it only takes a couple hundred dollars to make your truck basically live forever?

My Rear End

Well, not my personal rear end but my 2007's. It made it to 303,xxx miles and the rear end pretty much shit the bed. The car still moves but it sounded like gunshots were mating with an anvil back there. Thankfully it happened while I was backing out of the driveway.

I'm looking for a recommendation for the parts and an idea of the cost.

I appreciate the advice of the collective.

Help - can't open back door

Replacing the lock assembly on the back door. I took it off, but put it back on so i could lock it for the night while waiting on the replacement. Everything is assembled and on correctly, but whether i use the key / actuator, or I pull the metal post manually (same as door handle) - it's won't open.

Anyone have any clever ideas for releasing the latch?

1 week off grid with my FJ

Great week off grid. Maybe not the best time to do it since Az had tornado warnings, storms, and yesterday snow. Got to see elk, deer, geese, antelope , and just some beautiful scenery hiking up mountains where there are no trails. The FJ did well exploring the back country and only once I thought I would need to use the winch but was able to get through.

Thoughts on this pricing for a rust free, 2011 FJ with 4x4 and 121k miles? Mechanically and cosmetically clean too, it seems.

Just wanted to update. I ended up buying the 2011 FJ Cruiser 4 years ago after following the advice from this sub. Been some great years with it no issues whatsoever. Anyways also want to recommend this mats that my gf bought for me. Even though they are quite expensive they are great and i love them! I will say, the mats back when she bought them were for 07-10 and not for 2011 but they fit just fine except for the latches. Either way they are sturdy and easy to clean up. I ended just installing them on top of the other oem mats. Next up are some new tires!

Lost my father a little over a month ago and I was finally able to transfer over the title to this beauty. Besides our family and arguably his guitars, his FJ was what he loved most. Excited to be part of this community and carry on his legacy!!
