I'm rebuilding Vana'diel in Godot as a fan project, mostly for videos. Until now each character ran on a static animation, one clip at a time, so you would stop dead to /wave or slide along the ground.

Now there's a proper Animation Tree - the walk clip, then three Blend nodes with bone filters that mix in the emote. I've used all the original animations, just blended them together.

Also, bonus look at my new upscaled textures. I love Ashenbubs work and have used it a lot, but I found they weren't giving me an authentic FFXI look... I am making decent progress on the pipeline for textures now! I don't know if I'll be able to recompile those back again and turn them into a modpack like Ashenbub did, I presume so eventually.

What collabs would you actually want in FFXI?

Not another login campaign or Ambuscade skin. The kind of thing like the DQX crossover, where something from outside Vana’diel shows up, stays long enough to matter, and leaves gear or a Monstrosity option behind. Slimes wandering the starter zones, a sage looking for something that doesn’t belong, temporary content that feels like an actual visit instead of a store bundle.

Curious what people would still care about if Square did that again. Another Square property? Something older that already shares the same bones? Or is the DQX one the last time a crossover felt like it belonged in the world instead of sitting on top of it?

The community has put together great gear sets for years. But when you’re looking at dozens of pieces across your job’s sets, deciding what to work on first can be overwhelming. Which piece makes the biggest difference for what you already own? What are your alternatives if the top recommendation isn’t something you can get right now?

That’s what I wanted Droptimizer to help with.

Run a supported weapon skill calculation in Full Combat, then open Droptimizer. It takes your current Action Skill Set and compares one-item replacements while keeping the rest of your setup the same.

You can:

• Rank upgrades by expected WS damage or a supported individual stat.
• See the top 30 options and how much each improves your current setup.
• Compare supported augment paths and rank milestones against your original set.
• Exclude any equipment slots you don’t want to replace.
• Follow item links to BG Wiki, or a labeled wiki search when an exact page isn’t known.

Maybe the strongest option is out of reach, but another gives you a worthwhile improvement and is something you can work toward with friends this week. That’s the kind of decision I hope this makes easier.

This first version focuses on one item at a time and one-off calculations, rather than finding an entirely new set or optimizing timed combat.

Hey, the name is Rillian, I am playing on the Odin server. Discord: yes.

I am a returning player back from when I started in RoZ however the OG account was lost and never recovered.

I am on a new account now and am building back up from 0. I have rank 6 on my home nation (I have to have a party to continue the next ranks trusts wont do... i think?), several RoZ quests done (stuck on headstone where you have to find the 7 crystals scattered around) CoP i have up to rank 2/3 and the same for ToAU.

I have a thief up to level 80, my blue mage which is what im really maining at 75 (farming blu spells) and a few other jobs scattered around the 60s and 40s.

The server is fairly populated and active during my play times (5p.m to 12a.m EST) though not many social interactions.

I know i am going to need people to help with several of the later missions as well as once I start farming end game materials for gear and other things. I have been getting by on my own but having a group of people to help out with mission stuff from time to time would be a massive help.

'Oy there. Spent the evening making these little graphics, showcasing which Jobs are generally suggested throughout ones' natural progression.

If you're a newblood who's curious where your favorite Job stacks-up throughout the climb, take a gander at these slides and see where it peaks!

Should be said that the progression avenues listed on the earlygame/midgame slides are not all-encompassing lists, merely serving to provide a rough estimate as to what kinds of activities a player within those gearing ranges would likely be partaking in.

While it's generally advised to shift focus towards gearing a more universally-applicable Job once you approach endgame-related activities, it should be stressed that "niche" does not mean "useless" in this title. Nearly every single Job bearing that designation here plays a critically important role in at least two or three notable and relevant encounters in the game, be it from Odyssey Gaol NMs, certain Very Difficult (VD) Intense Ambuscades and High-Tier Battlefields, etc.

Additionally, these classifications did not take the Hoxne Ampulla into account, as there is absolutely no way a new player would have the scratch to run one of those things on-the-regular (at least not legitimately). Other premium gilsink equipment such as Kraken Club, et cetera, were similarly not factored-in here.

And of course, as a general disclaimer: Play whatever Job you want if you're enjoying it, as your time is your own and no one can take that from you. Just bear in mind some Jobs find slots in parties quite a bit easier than others, depending on content and context.

Hopefully this helps those wondering which Jobs to focus on further down the line...! ( ˙▿˙ )

Hey all, returning player on bahamut, I am having a hard time finding players to actually play with. I've joined a few linkshells but it's kinda a ghost town on both discords. Is it normal for people to not talk in voice chat for this game?

Being in voice chat is kinda a big deal for me. There hope to find a group? Would be happy to find a few players in the same boat.

I'm a long time player, played from 2004-2010, and again around 2017-2020, but then I just let the sub lapse, so I have a good idea about the game even completing a relic for DRK at 99.

I have unlocked all classes that are available on the free trial, and I have RDM, WHM, and BLM at 66+.

Maat has kicked my ass on all of them. RDM I knew what was going to happen. WHM I couldn't survive his hits long enough to heal. BLM I do not have enough magic accuracy. Also farming the testimonies are a huge pain in the ass on the trial account, being able to only farm the Yagudo High Priest for the WHM testimony.

I don't have access to the auction house, so I cannot easily come across gear such as elemental staves. I don't have access to RoV, so no trusts or medicines or TP wings or food.

I am open to suggestions to kick this old man's ass with the trial restrictions in place.

I've been a longtime ffxiv player, and I figured that playing the restricted version of ffxi with the new addition of the unlimited playtime/75 cap would be a great way to go about finally playing.

After a couple of weeks, I'm sitting at 70 on DRK, and it has been pretty fun going, but I'm finding it quite difficult to make the preparations for Shattering Stars, the level 75 cap quest. I will preface by saying I like the idea of tackling it in a similar environment to back in the day - no trusts to help with the fight (locked behind RoV, which I believe you cannot progress past 1-4) or easy consumable sources, expansion gear etc.

It does seem to necessitate, however, completing the artifact gear set to be strong enough. Which is fine on its own, but for DRK you require a darksteel ingot after the raven scythe. I managed to find some of the required artifact items for other classes from random chest drops/shore washups from the Mog Garden. I could hold out in hopes of finding one, but it does not seem likely as I cannot find drop tables. I regularly receive rewards for items I cannot use in free trial, diluting the pool for me. Hand-levelling smithing has taken me days for a pretty simple reason. While I can collect clusters from elementals to get the crystals required, the information is inconsistent on wikis for some base game areas. Mobs that drop crystals on wikis state that they need to be xp-granting while under Signet, but I have not found ones that consistently drop fire crystals in the 70 range.

As far as areas that have fire elementals, considering the quantity of crystals I need to get to ~50 skill to craft the ingot, I'm limited to a couple of areas. The Valkurm Dunes, which on paper has a high frequency of fire weather, has only shown up twice for longer than a minute during my 10 or so hours across multiples sessions waiting on the weather. I have only managed to get two. There are a couple of other locations, but the weather frequency isn't well-reported, and it's unclear where in those zones the elementals spawn. Which is problematic, as in dungeons with multiple levels and often short weather effect durations, I can't find them in time. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to spend waiting on weather effects for hours on end.

Is there any area in base game that has a mob that consistently drops fire crystals around that level? Or some resource I'm missing?

Alternatively, if anyone is on Ragnarok and would like to help, the ingot does have a chance to drop from the BCNM Grimshell Shocktroopers. I have attempted a couple of BCNMs by asking around the assistance channel with another free trial friend I made while playing, specifically to help them attain Refresh for RDM, stuck on the same step I am, which only has two sources (BCNM or NM that spawns under very stringent conditions once per day. Of course, this being under trial restrictions. People who respond to the calls for help (not many, haha) have been very friendly!

Legacy player here, used to play back in 2008-2010 days. Had a 75 DRK I really loved (lost account) and want to run it back.

However, I realize times have changed and that there are more popular DDs in end game? Thinking about doing WAR/NIN? Let me know whatever’s popular and most effective these days!!

Took a little work, but FFXI runs quite smooth at 1080p on Armada. Like in Winlator, DXVK 2.7.1 32bit .dll files in the pol and ffxi folders still seem to work best.

What would you actually want added to FFXI at this point?

Not another full expansion that pretends the story isn’t already finished. The game’s been in maintenance for years. Ambuscade rotates, login campaigns come and go, the occasional high-tier battlefield or event gets tacked on. That’s the rhythm.

So what would still feel like it belongs? More missions that actually use the current expansions instead of just parking in them? New areas that don’t require raising the level cap again? Higher difficulty versions of existing content that don’t just inflate numbers and call it done?

Curious what people who still log in would rather see than another seasonal event that exists to hand out points. The maps are already dense. The systems are already deep. Most of the gaps feel like places the game stopped building rather than places it never could.

I know that the skills they'd excel the most at are Cooking and Clothcraft. I also think they could be good at using weapons that don't rely on physical strength, such as bows knives and guns. Maybe they could also have more proficiency in Healing Magic than the other kinds of magic, since Healing Magic would fit their specialized nurturing capabilities.

So I'd just like to say I am absolutely loving FF11!

Way back in highschool my mom knew I loved Final Fantasy, but we didn't have a lot of money so when she brought home the Chains of Prometha expansion I didn't have the heart to tell her that I couldn't play it because I didn't have the Internet connection or the base game on my PS2, so when she asked about if I liked it, I told her I loved it and it was amazing. (In retrospect I should have seen if she could return it and get something I could play or just save the money)

Now she passed unexpectedly 10 years ago, and I find myself thinking about moments like that from time to time and over 20 years from the time she bought me Chains I've had the pleasure to finally see the first cutscene for that expansion which led me to telling my wife and this post ha.

It something small but big to me. So thank you to everyone who's kept this game going and Square for keeping it alive to allow me to play finally.

Is there any decent gear progression guides for red mage ? Or overall beginner guide?

One thing I always found funny about this game is that everything is automatically resized to the character. What magic accomplishes this? A smaller character obviously cannot wear a galka's​ clothes. If you trade a weapon from a Hume to a tarutaru suddenly the weapon shrinks.

I guess with so much gear being rare/ex things may not be different in some areas. But how different would the game be if you had to factor in whether or not all the equipment in the game fit your race for all gear?
