Fresh conflict in the Horn means fresh astroturfers attempting to manufacture sentiment.
We will be enhancing moderation and banning users for hate speech and propaganda.

Expecting the mods to have the same mental illness and obsessive complex about the world as you do is not healthy.
Did you ever think that maybe we are just regular ass dudes who aren’t interested in taking part in your online war? If you are so interested in overthrowing/preserving the government, then go home. At least then none of us will have to suffer through you making fools of yourselves on the internet because you won’t have it!
Same to the Ethiopian trolls who think it’s funny to talk about invading Eritrea. Yall should have shame…
Bunch of sociopaths in here pushing your rhetoric, hope yall get shot first.

Hi for context I am second generation immigrant in NA and have been attending events at the Habesha club at my University to try and get closer to my culture. During these events, at least 75% of the conversations the women have are how they hate Habesha men and how they are trash. Am I wrong for feeling frustrated about this? If you hold that opinion fine, but is it fair to not talk about it during these events? What do you all think?

Hey everyone 👋 I’m looking for a long Eritrean novel in Tigrinya (ትግርኛ), preferably a PDF with 200–400 pages or more. I’ve searched online but haven’t had much luck finding one.
If anyone has a PDF copy or knows where I can find one, please DM me. I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance! 🙏

Do people in Eritrea watch porn like how many people do across the world? I wonder if a lot of them even know what that is. Does the government restrict those websites?

Abiy Ahmed’s remarks in Tigrinya with Ethiopian state media do not survive contact with the historical record. He threatened Eritrea and claimed Eritreans thrived during the brutal Ethiopian occupation of Eritrea from 1961-1991
The facts say otherwise. Between 1961 and 1991, Ethiopian regimes under Haile Selassie and the Derg committed crimes against humanity and what Eritreans describe as genocide. Estimates place the death toll at 150,000 to 300,000 Eritreans, including 280,000 cited by Dawit Woldegiorgis in Michela Wrong’s work—roughly 20 to 30 percent of the population. Massacres included the 1967 campaign (thousands killed, villages burned, mass flight to Sudan); Ona and Besikdira 1970 near Keren (nearly 1,000 civilians in 48 hours); public hangings of students in Keren; and Derg-era atrocities at She’eb, Afabet, and Massawa.
Napalm, cluster bombs, and other banned weapons were used against civilians. Systematic rape, forced displacement, starvation tactics, and ecological destruction accompanied the violence. Haile Selassie’s reported statement that he wanted only the land and sea of Eritrea, not the people, is cited as evidence of genocidal intent. For three decades civilians hid whenever Ethiopian aircraft flew overhead. The 1987 photograph of an Eritrean child burned and partly blinded by napalm became known worldwide.
The Illegal Annexation Eritrea was illegally annexed in 1962 when Haile Selassie dissolved the federation, closed the Eritrean parliament, and abrogated the constitution. Ethiopian forces suppressed protests against plans to replace Tigrinya and Arabic with Amharic.
Language and press freedoms were banned. The economic base—ports, airports, streets, and institutions—had been built primarily during the Italian colonial period, not by Ethiopia. Ethiopian Economic Damage in Eritrea Ethiopia’s thirty-year occupation inflicted massive economic devastation. It used Massawa and Assab ports for free for decades, looted businesses and factories, seized land and assets, and destroyed infrastructure.
Livestock were deliberately killed to induce starvation. Thousands of trees were destroyed. Approximately 100,000 landmines were planted in fertile lands, creating long-term costs. These systematic economic crimes continue to burden Eritrea decades later. Life Expectancy and HDI During Ethiopian Occupation of Eritrea There is no evidence Eritreans thrived under occupation. Life expectancy was very low.
Maternal and child mortality were high. Hundreds of thousands fled to Sudan. Stability in Asmara masked widespread devastation elsewhere. Improvements After Eritrean Independence After independence the trajectory changed. Eritrea’s HDI rose. Life expectancy increased. Literacy improved. FGM rates fell. Maternal and infant mortality dropped. Access to water expanded through nearly 800 dams (up from roughly 130), largely self-funded. Access to electricity increased. Conflict and homicide deaths fell sharply. Eritrea has among the lowest HIV rates in Africa. The U.S. embassy and UN have noted progress. Ethiopia vs Eritrea: HDI, Life Expectancy, Literacy, and Disease Rates Ethiopia currently has a lower HDI and lower literacy rates than Eritrea according to available data. Eritrea’s post-independence gains contrast with occupation conditions. Ethiopia’s wars since 2020 have killed hundreds of thousands.
Neither country is perfect—Eritrea faces conscription, prisoners, and emigration—but occupation was not a period of prosperity. Both Countries Should Fix Their Own Countries Abiy Ahmed should focus on his own country first. Ethiopia faces starvation and wars, including fighting in Amhara and Tigray. and Eritrea faces mass exodus of the youth and a tense political situation.
Both countries have serious problems at home and should not dictate to each other. Ethiopia Has No Standing to Dictate Eritrea’s Affairs The state that annexed Eritrea, committed genocide against the Eritrean people, occupied it for thirty years, fought the Badme war, and is accused of mass killing 20–30 percent of the population has no standing to lecture Eritrea. Ethiopia denied Eritreans independence in 1962. Abiy’s threats and revisionism do not erase this record.
Abiy Ahmed’s 2018 Apology and the Return to Revisionism
In 2018 Abiy visited Asmara and acknowledged past Ethiopian wrongs. This contrasts with later claims that Eritrea thrived under occupation—a distortion designed to deny the suffering. All in AllThe thirty years of Ethiopian rule featured illegal annexation, mass civilian deaths, banned weapons, economic extraction, and demographic loss. Independence brought measurable improvements in health, water, electricity, literacy, and HDI. Ethiopia’s past role, current challenges, and lower HDI remove any moral authority to lecture Eritrea. Both countries have work to do at home.

https://ancienteritrea.com/ Two sites that explain a lot about how Aksum got rich.
Adulis was the coastal gateway. It shows up in the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea, a Greek merchant's guide to Red Sea and Indian Ocean trade. Ivory, tortoiseshell, and goods heading inland.
Qohaito was the other world. A highland plateau site with ancient tombs and a dam, often linked to the inland town the Greek sources call Koloe.
Coast and highlands. Trade and stone.
The problem is most people can't place either one on a map. So I built an interactive map of the major Eritrean sites. Click a site, read its story, see how it connects to the rest.
It's the part of the archive I use most myself.
Save this if you're into ancient trade routes. Which site would you want on the map next?

Does anyone know where I could find old Eritrean music, specifically cassette tapes or CDs?
I'm looking for an old Helen Meles album from 1999, which I believe was called Helen Meles Vol. 2 – Ti Gezana.
I have a lot of childhood memories of my father playing this album in the car, and I'd really love to find a physical copy of it.
If anyone knows of an online store, a music shop in Eritrea, or even someone who collects or sells old Eritrean tapes, I'd really appreciate any leads.
Thanks in advance!

The 4th front sometimes just known as 4G came forward to really help their country by heavily funding the regime that has led Eritrea into darkness over the past 35 years. If Eritrea had a national budget, perhaps this could be excused but instead we do not know if this money will really be used to increase military capabilities or are we just adding more to offshore bank accounts?

I was born surrounded by an Eritrean community until around 13 years old and have forgotten a lot of things tbh, used to go to festivals, events and all that but I feel like I barely understand the history of things and traditions and my understanding is very shallow and only catered towards the tigrinya tribe (for example I only learned what a suqrien is a couple weeks ago) and since I look less Eritrean and more my other ethnicity I was always pushed towards representing that one which felt unfair because I only grew up with my Eritrean mom...
How can I expand my knowledge on these things and which sources can I look up? Anything the average Eritrean kid grew up learning and knowing

Selam everyone,
Full disclosure: I’m the founder of Dehay, hybrid calling app for Eritreans abroad. The app combines internet and landline to form group call at fair price
Group calls: up to 4 people on one call. Family abroad join from the app, and you can add one regular phone number in Eritrea, so siblings in different countries can talk to mom together. You pay for that one phone number. Family on the app cost nothing, and the people you invite pay nothing.
It’s still a small project, so I’d really like to hear what works and what doesn’t: call quality to your family’s area, what you use today, and what’s missing. I’ll be in the comments.
