Discussion Discussion topic: can the "Annihilator" keyword exist in a bracket 2/"precon" level?

Hello friends

In today's day and age, how does Annihilator fair? I just bought all of the Foundations precons, and I wanted to build a 6th colorless "precon" to go with it. My original vision was to "make a bunch of mana, and then dump it into... something." My thought was to use cheap/"bad" mana rocks and ramp pieces such as [[Navigation Orb]], [[Worn Powerstone]], and [[Kozilek's Channeler]] to make big mana, and then dump it into whatever the win conditions are.

Right now, I think cards such as [[Stonecoil Serpent]] and [[Everflowing chalice]] are examples of good "mana dumps," along with cards such as [[Hangerback Walker]] and [[Marketback Walker]] as more precon-level mana dumps. However, I was also gonna just add mana expensive cards, cards that you wouldn't play in most other decks cuz their mana value is normally too much for its effect, such as [[Zuko's Exile]], [[Meteor Golem]], and [[Scampering Surveyor]]

All that to say, [[Pathrazer of Ulamog]], [[Artisan of Kozilek]], and [[Eldrazi Conscription]] are example of high-mana targets that also have annihilator. Could these kind of cards ever exist in a precon-level deck, even one of them, as a win con, or is it too much for a new player to fight against?

Discussion Thankful that Invoke Prejudice is banned.

We tried a bracket 3 commander night where banned cards where legal it was good for a few laughs.

One card that was not funny was Invoke Prejudice. Not only is the card art and name grossly offensive, the card isn't fun to play with either. The game just stalled out after it was played. Nonblue decks just sat there, unable to cast their commander until the very late game. The monoblue deck that played it also couldn't capitalize on the lockout that much.

What a waste of cardboard.

Discussion Can salty commanders break through the "Its not that deck" glass ceiling?

• Upvotes

Full transparency, I believe salt is an important spice for any great dish - but I realize great food is best shared with friends and family!

So, is there a way for players to helm a salty commander without people in the pod shaking their heads in disgust? Have you ever played against a salty commander and felt "hey, this is pretty cool actually"?

The new "Salt" scores are out and I want your input!

Can you play a [[Sheoldred, the apocalypse]] in a deck without any forced draw and be alright? Can you play [[Urza, Lord high artificer]] without any stax and not be shunned for eternity?

For reference i have listed the 25 most salty legendary creatures according to Top 100 Saltiest Cards of 2026 | EDHREC here:

[[Tergrid, God of Fright]]

[[Grand Arbiter Augustin IV]]

[[Vivi Ornitier]]

[[Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger]]

[[Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur]]

[[Toxrill, the Corrosive]]

[[Hokori, Dust Drinker]]

[[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]]

[[Urza, Lord High artificer]]

[[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]]

[[Braids, Cabal Minion]]

[[Edgar Markov]]

[[Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow]]

[[The legend of Yangchen]]

[[Deadpool, Trading Card]]

[[Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy]]

[[The Ur-Dragon]]

[[Emrakul, the Promised End]]

[[Prismari, the Inspiration]]

[[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]]

[[Ulamog, the Defiler]]

[[Jodah, the Unifier]]

[[Etali, Primal Conqueror]]

[[Maha, Its Fearless Night]]

[[Y'shtola, Night's Blessed]]

Discussion Lands Should Be Bracketed

I know this sounds crazy, but after playing for years I've noticed a correlation between the quality of someone's mana base and the general strength of their deck. This trend continued even when playing online, where absurd pricing wasn't an issue.

Based on my experience, a potential (non-exhaustive) list would be something like this. We can probably shift the exact rankings around, but I feel like this gets my idea across. Weaker decks fight with modest mana bases, while cEDH remains utterly untouched.

1 & 2: any basics, command tower, utilities, evolving and similar tapped fetches, tri lands, or tapped dual lands

3: shocks, battle bonds, and fetches, MDFCs, ancient tomb, triomes, urza's saga

4 & 5: OG duals, channel lands, cavern of souls,

Discussion Apparently Dark Ritual is bad now

I came upon a reel where someone was reviewing a decklist they were sent and was questioning why they didn’t have [[dark ritual]] in the deck, the player “misread” it apparently. Anyhow in the comments there were people arguing that you shouldn’t always run Dark Ritual in black, that it puts you down a card so it’s bad, that the rate isn’t good enough. How did we get to this?

Question help me choose a commander please

Help me choose a commander

im at a loss as to what to make my next deck. i would like to ask about folks favourite commanders, that fit my criteria if possible. i would love suggestions. i was gonna do adrix & nev next but other than generating a ton of food tokens i have no idea where to take the deck.

so for commander reccs,

1) the character has to be female.

2) no more than 3 colors, but i would prefer dual colors bc its easier to mana fix.

3) no one trick ponys, like yuriko or kaalia. (i love them but they got boring very fast)

4) i would like a commander that has multiple viable ways to win.

if anyone has any reccomendations i would love to hear them. also anything on what to do with adrix and nev to close a game would be welcome as well.

Discussion People who play bracket 4, do you abide by the turn limitations?

If you play bracket 4 consistently, do you use the turn limit set in the bracket description? Do you avoid winning before turn 5 or taking out a player before turn 5? And is any deck that can do that consistently a cedh deck if so? Or is b5 only meta cedh decks and B4 truly anything goes, no matter how soon the deck can win? Is there such a thing as a deck too powerful or too fast for bracket 4 even if it is not meta cedh?

I have never played cedh but I have a B4 deck that usually wins before turn 5 that's why I'm asking.

Discussion Is this deck too mean?

https://moxfield.com/decks/_XFMA6oeXkiG5P46vrqfiA
Per the Decklist

I made the commander on a whim and I was curious as to what kind of theme I’d be able to cook up out of it. Initially I started with just the sea creatures themselves and added a pinch of copy spells and enchantments to make them a little more threatening. I also wanted a theme of control to be within the deck, but I didn’t want to go the traditional route of counter spells directly(the designated and forbidden overwhelming banana flavor of commander). Eventually, I started digging around my bulk for a potential enchant themed stax when I noticed that I held a decent helping of stun-based support. I instead went with the artifacts/stun/control build per my first mono blue deck and proudly gave it a try in my pod!
Needless to say, the Voltron player did not like me putting six stun counters on his Captain America and the other pod member proceeded to use every single card’s worth removal on me/my commander the whole session. I had no combos on the board, my only creatures at the time simply granted me card draw through combat triggers, and my commander at that point cost 8 to cast. I managed to get him out early game between a sapphire medallion and its self-reducing cost, so almost a turn or two over each time it hit the board, its protection would be burned through followed by removal.
I get that not everyone is a huge fan of stun counters, but what does that have to do with my commander? It doesn’t really have anything to do with the deck strat itself, I just liked the big boy, but for some reason its constant removal makes me kind of dumbfounded as to why they think its the big bad. Are the stun counters too much?

Deck Help Can someone help me improve my Sheoldred Deck?

I am working on this mono-black sheoldred deck but not really sure what improvements I can add to make this a solid bracket 4 deck.

Deck draw is the main idea to win via sheoldred, but I tried to incorporate a back up strategy for negative counters to help me out since Sheoldred is always being removed. Any insights would be appreciated!

Question MagicCon Atlanta ticket Resale / Transfer

Hello magic community! I was not able to get magic con Atlanta tickets due to some financial hardship I was going through plus having a medical thing that restricted me from traveling (which I have now got the go ahead from my doctor) I really would like to go to magic con Atlanta. I am looking for a legitimate weekend badge transfer from anyone who maybe bought a ticket who is now not able to go. I would be willing to pay extra for the shipping / convenience.

Thank you 🥺 it would mean a lot to this lifelong MTG gamer

Question Is it better to hold Yuriko back a turn or two?

Usually I play yuriko and on turn two and I immediately get table hate even though I’m not the immediate threat.

I often think about holding her back and let me build some engines like evasive engine, sensai top/ scroll rack/ before going explosive but feel compelled to play her turn two.

Thoughts on this? I’m running a b3 yuriko without the thassa combo.

Here’s deck list for those wondering:

https://archidekt.com/decks/20000251

Edit:

I guess the question I’m asking is if yuriko is really a control deck in disguise instead of a gotta go fast deck

Discussion "Run 38 Lands" Rant

• Upvotes

Every time I watch a Magic content creator, they say you should play 38 lands. What really annoys me is that they present it as a fact without backing it up or using some kind of nuance.

Personally, I play 36 lands in my bracket 3 decks. This gives you a 50% chance of having 3 or more lands in your opening hand, 75% with one mulligan and 87% with a second mulligan.

If you start the game with 3 lands in your opening hand, you have an 82.0% 20.6% chance of drawing 4 more lands by turn 7. This rises to 90.3% 41.1% if you’ve drawn 2 extra cards during the game using a [[Night’s Whisper]] or something.

I also did the numbers on 38 lands and it generally increases all the previous percentages by about 4%. To me this 4% doesn't make the world of difference all those content creators make it out te be.

so I'm looking to get into magic after watching videos on it for a while I now want to get a deck I'm a fan of quips&guac and his gimmick style of decks. his newest deck https://archidekt.com/decks/27786309/pips seems more simple compared to his normal decks and looks quite fun is it a decent one for a beginner to try out? if not what gimmicky yet beginner friendly decks would you recommend, and any other tips for starting out would also be appreciated.

Discussion Where are my starships??

So I waited the whole year for the Federation Fleet precon. And now I'm f....g pissed. How you fook that up! Where is the fleet? Where are my spacecrafts? Only 5 starships in a fleet deck? I really hoped the deck would revolve around spacecrafts and charge counters. It says on the box 'Charge your Starships'. What starships? Like maybe you draw 1 during the game? 'Whenever you draw your 2nd card' and +1+1 counters are so boring. Borg spoilers from yesterday were fantastic. But this deck is sheer disappointment (personally). How you fook that up!

Discussion Decks I play when Iwant to lose

Imagine this scenario. You've played 3 games and won two of them. The third you were tight there competing until the end. You go to grab your deck for game 4. You choose commander X....not because you think it could win, or even that its a fun deck. No, you choose it because you KNOW it will almost certainly not win.

Does anyone else keep a deck or two in there rotation in case you want to lose. I like to have these decks for when ive had really good luck on a game night and I dont want to play a deck i know starts me out on equal footing with every one else. The decks are fun to play, but just aren't strong for whatever reason. Now, I still try to win while playing the game, I just know going in its highly unlikely.

Deck Help Superfriends Finishers?

Im building a Tam, the Possibility superfriends deck. It's firmly in bracket 3. I made the deck swing heavily into control. I have almost half of my nonland cards serving as interaction or board wipes. (Many of them are planeswalkers with removal stapled to them). I only have two creatures in the deck so I avoid wrathing myself. The main goal of the deck is to repeatedly wrath the board and control the state of the game long enough to let me either swarm out with creature tokens or ult one of my game ending walkers. However, I often find that my deck struggles with pulling out a win, as i still get ovewhelmed near the endgame. What are some Finishers i could add to my deck to make it just a fraction faster?

P.S. I know my deck lacks many proliferation cards, but in all honesty most of them feel extremely slow to me.

Discussion Looking for cards that fly under the radar

• Upvotes

Lately I've been trying to build decks that take it a little bit more easy, just stay behind the person thats ahead and take less heat for it. Put one or two permanents on the field that look innocuous but accrue incremental value that help me to the lategame. I'm mainly playing in brackets 2 and 3. For instance I saw someone play a [[the vision]], it drew a couple of cards, deterred some attacks and there were always creatures that were a bigger problem.

I'm definitely playing blue for this but I'm not set on the other color(s), so please let me know your favorite cards!

Social Interaction Struggling to find a group

I recently just got back into mrg commander after quitting earlier this year. I ended up quiting due to people lying about their deck power level, ignore rule 0 talk and stores just saying we dont care.

Well i was informed by someone at pokehive that some of the problem players were gone so i got the courage to try again. Only to play vs high power pubstompers who perminantly blew up my board because he got upset i stopped his infite artifact combo by exiling his unwinding clock.

I cant get anyone to listen to rule 0, find pods that arent minmax highest power per bracket, etc and its making want to quit again.

Im seeing the same problematic people and their cliques still at stores causing issues and trying to meet new people is increaslying hard because they end up vaninish after their first visit to a store probably for the same reasons.

Does anyone have suggestions on hiw to navigate this? How do i find players who want to play at a casual level and not minmax cedh shell decks?

Discussion Please tell me all about your awesome 4-color decks (bonus points for 4 color partners that aren't a cEDH list)

I recently took apart a number of decks that I never play anymore, which has left me with a bunch of good lands (I have a solid mana base for basically anything now) and I am now trying to put these lands to good use. The other day I was inspired by a really cool Vial Smasher + Thrasios control/burn list, and I've kind of always wanted to use Thrasios in a deck, but never could find the right context. And that's just the thing with 4c and 4c partners in particular – they were designed to be open-ended, even the ones with somewhat of a direction still feel enormously flexible due to their access to so many colors. I really enjoy this element to partners, though I've always stuck to 3 color pairings to make it a little easier to build. I took a shot at building breya and I was quickly overwhelmed by the available options. While I'm over my attempt to build breya, I am trying to brew something creature-centric with Thrasios, though the idea is still super nebulous.

So all that being said, I want to hear what sort of 4-color non-cEDH decks you all have built and why you like them so much?

PS, I have nothing against cEDH, my pod just tends toward B3 and B4 games.

Deck Help Can old Precons(2011-2019) hold up against modern(2023-2026) Precons?

So Im invited to a EDH kitchentable tournament. 3 player Pods, unmodified Precons only, Cardvalue 100€ tops, 100% proxy friendly.

In the past years most of the precons are pretty consistently good. I was think about goin as far back as possible and still be able to play a game. I mostly use this List for every Precon ever to get inspiration on what deck im choosing. I didn get through every single one for now. But my favorites of what ive seen are Urdragon and Saskia. What about things like Breya, Atraxa, Mimeoplasm, Prosh, etc. Are there old precons any good or did onyl the Commanders survive the time?

Question Do you let new players win or just stomp them?

I had a few paragraphs written but it was too much so I'll keep it short.

Been playing since 1994, used to be competitive but now just play for fun. When I play with new players, I will do everything I can to make it a fun game. If I'm getting too far ahead, I will start holding back or misplaying until they can catch up. I let them win but I make them work for it. The games are always exciting and play out like an epic movie. Over the last 10 years, my win rate against new players is 0%. I've never told them what I've been doing and I never will.

Discussion Spacecraft typal not being a thing sucks.

Its such a design fail that 99% of spacecrafts do not care about other spacecrafts. When they were first released I was hoping to build a deck that gave you the feeling of commander a space fleet but they have been a huge flavor fail in that aspect.

Almost all spacecraft want to just be in a deck by themselves because they gain no advantage from having other spacecrafts around.

Has anyone been brewing any spacecraft typal with success, with the new ones from Startrek?
