Huge Thank You to whoever it was that described how to EC hold while sitting on the toilet.

I don’t know who it was, but thank you thank you thank you to whoever recently posted describing how they hold their baby in classic EC hold (baby’s back to parent’s tummy, gripping thighs to guide baby into a deep squat position) while sitting on the open toilet in a wide straddle with baby in front- essentially acting as a human high-backed toilet seat reducer

We’ve been using top hats since birth, but today my little girl dumped out directly into the toilet. This is revolutionary and a total game changer. Clean up was soooooo easy. Why wasn’t I doing this the whole time??? (Idk. Head control is amazing. Might not have been able to make it work back when she was just a super floppy potato.)

Bottom line- if you’re holding your kid to EC them and having them poop into anything other than a toilet, give this a try. It’s pretty awesome.

Where to go from here? 15mo

Been doing part time EC since around 4 months, ramped up around 11 months when I was home with baby on summer break. She’s been in training undies at home since 12ish months. We use mostly the big potty with a duck patterned seat reducer that she loves. Poop is pretty reliable, and she requests for pee sometimes by grunting, walking to the bathroom, or grabbing a small potty. She often lets us know when she’s just gone (or in the process of going, or I can’t get her undies off fast enough).

She’s at daycare in diapers 4 days a week but they offer the potty at diaper changes (not ideal, but it’s something). We have done training undies for some outings, and we bring a seat reducer and she has peed in public bathrooms and in the potty in the back of the car too. We have a little travel potty with foldable legs for stroller outings but she doesn’t seem to like it much. We’ve had a fee completely dry mornings and afternoons but it’s still rare!

I guess my question is, where do we go from here? I’m just not sure what the next step is!

Also, city parents, what do you do for potty breaks when you’re out without the car when the weather gets colder?

Our neighborhood/playground doesn’t have a bathroom or a business with a bathroom we can easily access.
