It’s a lot smaller in size and has a cute vintage vibe. A WHOLE lot simpler to use in the sense that there isn’t much menu diving, although there are some weird key presses to get to something like saving a pattern is a multi step process. Hopefully that can come from an update.

The knobs are very granular. A small twist and the sound changes a lot. It doesn’t really have that boomy techno sound from a Perkons or that creamy analog sound of a TR1000. It definitely has its own sound thing, which is a lot more polite but still has an analog feel to it. Personally I prefer it to be grittier and might need to run it into the Chroma Console to punch it up.

Hey everyone! Something a bit different! I’m a huge Cocteau Twins fan, so this was so fun to recreate! I used Oberheim DX drum samples to recreate the sounds (just like the original) and mapped them to my drum triggers to recreate the beat. If you haven’t heard the song before, enjoy!

Hi all! Heard that many of music makers use a few drum machines together. I have volca beats at the moment and planing to add a drumbrute impact to add some useful functions such as sub step, polymeter , 64 steps sequencer, fm drum and a much bigger UI. Do you think this is a good idea or should I look for smth else? P.S. I also have a pss a50 which I'm going to use for melodic stuff.

Before FM was made legal and hip, my family brewed their own brand of FM deep in the woods of Beaumont TX. We blew up many a mobile home in pursuit of bell like tones and punishing kick drums. All things must pass I reckon.

I was holding of a Linux version of BeatForge because I thought I couldn't offer support for rex file support for Linux.

Turn's out it was possible after all, full support, bit for bit equal to the official rex SDK. only RX2 support though.

This track drew inspiration from that kind of melodic, minimalistic progressive sound played a lot by artists like Boris Brejcha, Extrawelt, Minilogue, Solee and many others throughout the ~2010s. I have been enjoying faster BPMs in the 135+ zone so this is kind of a faster, more modern take on that older sound.

Everything is the TR8S, + Mastering in Ableton.

Some information on the track ingredients:

TR8S:

BD: 808 Bass2 with some Low end boost

SD: 5th Synth FM sound tuned down -12 and lowpassed. SD then sent to Assign Out A, passed back in through EXT IN and gently side chained to the kick.

LT: 5th Synth FM sound with morph on the CTRL, motion step tuning and panning on the S&H LFO

MT: HiBell FM sound with a HPF/LPF on the CTRL, some motion Step tuning, panning on S&H.

HT: 727 MtHiConga/OHC with HPF on CTRL

RS: "Claps Real" Sample with compression in INST

HC: 707 Snare 1/2 in INST

CH: 808 Closed HH 1/4 notes

OH: 808 Closed HH 16th notes

CC: 808 Rim Shot with alot of reverb

RC: 909 Ride Cymbal with constant tuning up and down.

Reverb and Delay are used fairly conservatively across instruments for texture/depth, apart for the CC which is used as a one-shot.

LFO set to S&H with a fairly fast rate to create more variation on instruments, mainly through panning to create width with panning.

Ableton Master Chain:

A single Stereo recording was tracked through Ableton.

Ableton Mono/Stereo Parametric EQ 1: For High cuts around the ~30 (mono) and ~150 (stereo) range.

Ableton Parametric EQ 2: Low end boost, Low-mid and High-mid cuts, High end boost.

Waves L4 Limiter: Some gain reduction and limiting for loudness.

Feedback, especially on the style of the track and the mastering, would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!!! I have exclusively used my Korg ESX and various synths FOREVER, but I have been asked to record some pure analog for a songwriter's album (think Flaming Lips). Can you recommend me an analog or digital modeling machine that may mix well with acoustic guitars? My budget is like $300, and he wants something "dark/ industrial" sounding. I really appreciate it.

So I have a Boss DR-550 and a Volca Sample in my setup, but the DR has a bit of a slower tempo and desyncs pretty fast. So I'm trying to find a way to sync the two and use the Volca as a master clock.

I tried connecting the sync-out of the Volca to the midi in through a midi-jack adaptor but it doesn't work. I also tried connecting it with my Microfreak and my Bass Station II, but it throws me an error.

I can't find any way on the internet, so I don't know if it's an easy solution or not.

My 808 but the dust several years ago and the repair place said the processor was dead and there were no new ones being made.

Now I have discovered that there supposedly drop in CPUs, some of which add additional functionality to the machine.

Has anyone here had any experience with them?

If you own a BOSS BR-600 (mid-2000s digital multitrack recorder), don't forget you have a passable little drum box complete with SP404-type pads, step sequencing, and the world's most limited set of 808 samples (used in the vid).

You can load custom samples from a PC, though, and there's a tonne of DSP on board, including a nice reverb, ring mod, and that BOSS vinyl sim that people like.

You can pick these little guys up pretty cheaply on eBay/Vinted, if you're looking for a fun "options box" for messing about with on the sofa you could do a lot worse.

I am not really a craftsman, but I have always kind of wanted to build my own drum machine. It'd obviously be something simple if I ever did, but I was wondering if anyone here has any handiwork to show?

My understanding is its pretty easy to build a sample-based machine with a Raspberry Pi, but I am thinking more along the lines of a Rhythm Ace or even a PSS-100.
