question The next Doctor
Question. Do you guys think that the next Doctor should be played by an unknown. Or would you rather a more established actor?

link to Doctor Who news Additional screens for "The Satan Pit" movie added.
Will now be showing on the 28th of November as well as the 23rd after screenings sold out.
Cineworld will also be adding screenings in 4DX, which would make me car sick but people seem to enjoy being flung around while trying to watch something.
I guess the moral is; never underestimate the draw of David Tennant.

discussion The thing that disappoints me most about the latest era is how they’ve handled Susan. We waited so long to see Carole Ann Ford return to the role, only for her to appear in a handful of vague, ambiguous visions tied to a storyline that will probably now never be resolved...

discussion Star Trek & Doctor Who Crossover Gets Official Update as Both Franchises Face Reboots. Fellow Whovians, how ya' feeling?
So as fan of both franchises my answer is no thank you. The other trekkies aren't into it. What do you guys think??? While I'm not against seeing these characters interact in some capacity I'd hate the idea of them officially existing in one another's universes. They just don't belong together IMO.

discussion RTD Never Said He Wanted To Use AI To Bring Back Past Doctors (aka stop spreading blatant misinformation)
Relevant section at 12:15
I always see people using this as a criticism of RTD, and there is a lot to criticise about him, but I would rather it wasn't blatant misinformation. He doesn't say he wants to use AI, he says he wants to use CGI (aka Rogue One style). Whilst I'm not a huge fan of that approach either it is a very important distinction to make. He has never condoned using AI actors. I have seen so many people go "oh so now it looks like it will take his job he's concerned" when it simply isn't true he ever condoned resurrecting William Hartnell with AI.
I didn't particularly enjoy his new era and it's fine not to like him, but can we not make stuff up to criticise him with just because we didn't like some episodes he wrote. Criticise what he has actually done, not what he hasn't. People are allowed to grow and change, maybe he was pro-AI, at some point when he did that one Instagram post, maybe it was a mistake but he clearly isn't pro-AI anymore. You can't criticise someone for doing something and then not allow them to learn and change (within reason).

discussion return on NuWho x3: 2028/29 - desperate fan-casting. by me.
you know what? when Who eventually returns, you know who I want portraying The Doctor?
PAUL McGANN!
I want him to get a whole era: we could be back to 1997 immediately following The Movie, for all I care. We can see the Time War develop for all I care. recast The War Doctor for all I care.
ALL I care about is, Paul McGann getting a proper run at his Doctor: start with the 18thC Bill Hickock for all i care, end with Night of The Doctor, via Dark Eyes or something - bring Big Finish writers on-board. give the whole thing over to Nick Briggs...
JUST give me Paul McGann as the Doctor. even if he's another retro-photo-fit of 8th as the 16th. I.Do.Not.Care. just give us Paul McGann on screen for 3 series. pls.

link to Doctor Who news Deadline reveals companies bidding for Doctor Who
The big one is that "Line of Duty" creator Jed Mercurio is pitching a version with him as showrunner.
Old fogies like me will remember he wrote one of the BBC's rare SF shows "Invasion Earth" back in the 1990s.
For people reading this outside the UK, trust me when I say that it would be a very big deal if he got it.
Fun fact, Hat Trick, who would be the production company, first ever production was late 1980's comedy "Chelmsford 123" which features a cameo by the Doctor in the first episode. (You can find the clip on YouTube.)

link to Doctor Who news ‘Goodbye Whoniverse. God, that was fun!’: Russell T Davies on writing the end of Doctor Who | Russell T Davies
RTD's new memoir is out next week, and The Guardian have shared a tell-all extract that reveals what happened towards the end of the RTD2 era
In the extract, he talks at length about the difficulties in promoting the show for two years despite knowing the axe was going to fall, story details on his pitch for the abandoned 2026 Christmas special, his frustration that he couldn't have the 2025 leaker 'Andrew' arrested because the BBC thought prosecuting someone for leaking Doctor Who spoilers would look weird, and describing the Billie Piper cliffhanger as a 'piece of piss' you can either ignore or explain in seven words

discussion Even though RTD is done with the show again, and it's being put out to tender, do you think we'll get a conclusion to the Rose regeneration?
I was lukewarm on the last series, but really loved Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor, but the shocking regeneration that seemingly gave us Rose as The Doctor really was a "oh shit" kind of twist. That being said, with everything that's happened since, do you think that whoever does pick the show up again, will they continue from that story thread, or do you think it'll be a Paul McGann situation all over again? A one and done and maybe will get officially brought back into the canon later down the line?

discussion Who are your dream castings for the Doctor that nobody is talking about?
I did a post like this the other day about showrunners we'd like who don't really enter the conversation much, if ever. So I thought I'd see the breadth of opinion on this too! Who is someone you really want to play the 'next' incarnation of the Doctor who isn't really brought up in such conversations?
Here are my takes:
- Aisling Bea: I know she's featured in Who already, but who hasn't! I know she's known as a comedian, but having seen her in roles that also include dramatic elements, I think she'd grapple with both the light-hearted side and the darkness of the Doctor really well.
- Ania Magliano: Same deal here. She's a comedian, but she'd absolutely nail that tricky balance between the humour and the darkness of the character.
- Fisayo Akinade: An amazing actor. He exudes a soulful, kind energy.
- Gerran Howell: UK actor, currently in The Pitt. He's got a bit of the 'pretty' David Tennant energy, but his sad, lost eyes always make me think he could bring something new to the role. He's young, so we're not catching him at the absolute height of his career, but he's never not given an amazing performance.
Four choices that people might not like because either they are not British, and/or because they don't line up with the 'classic' Doctor casting energy:
- Matt Berry: My wildcard. I know he sometimes comes up in the same conversations as those like Richard Ayoade (who I think people see as 'quirky' but is really a bit of a one-trick pony), but I think Matt does actually have the range and would deliver a unique performance that would head into Tom Baker territory.
- Nick Offerman: Multiple wildcard reasons, being American and a huge star. But Devs and The Last of Us showed us how much of an amazing dramatic performance he could pull off, and his quiet, often subtle kindness (reminds me of Capaldi) is very Doctor to me.
- Clea DuVall: You may know her from Veep as Marjorie (Selina's bodyguard turned daughter-in-law) and The Handmaid's Tale. Again, American, sorry. BUT, I think there's a real Michelle Gomez energy in her, a take on the character I'd love to see transferred to the Doctor.
- Michelle Gomez: And honestly, my ultimate wildcard- just ask Michelle Gomez. I know that's close to using dangerous 'Billie Piper return' territory, but god she'd be amazing.

discussion Guess we’re not getting a feature length classic this year
I know some of you are going to say “thank goodness”, but as far as they left the original episodes up, I think they were a great way to introduce classic Doctors to newer fans.
I’m assuming that now Bad Wolf is no longer involved with Doctor Who, we won’t be getting one this year.
Not gonna lie, wouldn’t have minded Genesis with the climbing the rocket part cut out!
