why do we now act, like windows 10 wasn't full of ads?

Even XP could be “noisy,” especially at first. Miss it.

8.1 was actually my longest used, despite the hate. 10 took until 2004 to feel baked. Miss Snow Leopard, too!

Damn, I’m getting old.

why do we act like either had ads at all? perhaps they just toned it down for me as i live in the eu but either way, ive never seen ads in windows itself

Because both have ads. I, as another EU citizen have seen them on both. As example, if you look at this German comparison between 10 and 11, look at windows 10 start menu, you will see ads https://thomasknoefel.de/unterschiede-zwischen-windows-10-und-windows-11/

Same honestly with 11, just a bit more subtle, as now it is preinstalled / shortcuts to programs

It tries to push services like one drive and other Microsoft products.

This graph spirals out of control when you expand the Linux branch…

This is comically wrong.

Windows 10 introduced the ads. The last version of windows without them is windows 8.1.

As much as I enjoy this classic meme, with the inclusion of AI generated code now becoming mainstream in the Linux Kernel, BSD is owed an inclusion <3
