Hey everyone!
I've been working on something that I thought this community might be interested in!
I'm currently developing a project called Infinity Reconnected, an unofficial, fan-made multiplayer mod for Disney Infinity 2.0 Gold Edition on PC.
The goal is pretty simple: to bring back the ability to play Disney Infinity 2.0 online with friends, something I've really wanted to experience again.
What am I planning?
My current goals are:
- Toy Box: Up to 4 players exploring, building, and fighting together.
- Play Sets: Up to 2 players playing through the Avengers, Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy campaigns together.
- Controller support: Playing naturally with controllers, just like the original game.
- Smooth synchronization: Making movement, combat, enemies, and interactions feel as seamless as possible.
- Free release: If the project succeeds, I intend to make the mod available to everyone for free.
These are the features I'm aiming for, not features that are already working.
What have I achieved so far?
Although development is still early, I've made some encouraging progress!
1. Successfully got custom code running inside Disney Infinity 2.0.
This was an important first step because it allows me to begin experimenting with the game's systems rather than just modifying files externally.
2. Established communication between two separate PCs!
This is probably the most exciting milestone so far.
With the help of a friend, I managed to send a message from his computer to mine, have the code running inside my game receive it, and send a response back.
In simple terms, we successfully got two computers communicating through the mod while the game was running!
This isn't actual multiplayer gameplay yet, but it confirms that our basic communication setup works.
3. Started investigating the game's original multiplayer systems.
I've been examining how Disney Infinity originally handled multiplayer, including its networking and session systems, to understand whether those features can be restored on PC.
I've also identified parts of the game's internal session system, although I haven't been able to create a working multiplayer session yet.
4. Performed stability tests.
I've tested the game with the experimental mod components running, including loading into Toy Box and spawning enemies. Those tests helped check whether the game could continue operating normally alongside the mod.
Where is the project right now?
Infinity Reconnected is currently in early development and research.
The next major challenge is getting two separate players into the same Toy Box session, where they can actually see and interact with each other.
Once that works, the focus will shift toward synchronizing movement, combat, enemies, interactions, and eventually Play Set gameplay.
There's still a lot of work ahead, and I can't guarantee that everything will be possible. I'm also not announcing a release date until there's something genuinely playable.
Why am I sharing this now?
I wanted to introduce the project early, see whether people would be interested, and hopefully bring together a community that still loves Disney Infinity.
I know plenty of people have wanted to play the PC versions with their friends, and I'd love to help make that possible.
I'll be sharing development updates as the project progresses, and I'm planning an official Infinity Reconnected Discord server for anyone who wants to follow along.
This is a completely independent fan project and isn't affiliated with Disney or Avalanche Software.
So, I'm curious: would you guys be interested in a multiplayer mod for Disney Infinity 2.0 PC? And would you be more excited for Toy Box multiplayer or playing through the Marvel Play Sets with friends?
Thanks for reading! ❤️
