Mod Message Updates to the Subreddit
Pardon our dust

The mods have recently been doing some construction behind the scenes which may cause some things to be weird or messed up on the sub. While looking into some automatic moderation tools, we discovered that Reddit has an entire library of apps that can be added to a sub to do things like help with the moderation and do some other fun stuff that we have not fully explored yet. While we experiment with these apps, there may be some weird things posted that are incomplete and/or unintentional. If you notice anything that doesn't seem normal or you just don't like some of the changes we make, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via the ModMail.
Thanks - The Mods
P.S. I hope yall like the image i photoshopped

Discussion What Degrassi moment made you think: "What the hell the writers are smoking?"
1) Anytime Peter, Jay and Zoe are instantly forgiven.
2) When JT and Liberty made Emma the lead in Dracula.
3) The whole Kevin Smith Saga.
4) When Ms. Dawes made Fiona director of Love Roulette even though Fiona had never shown any interest in theater before.
5) The entire Degrassi: Las Vegas episode.
6) When the school board made Jane, Fiona and Zoe valedictorians.

They are both the worst. Dallas is a bully and Becky is anti gay. They get better by the end but still

Discussion Degrassi TNG but for the millennials who grew up with the show
I’ve rewatched the show and seen enough episodes (thanks to YouTube and the 24/7 replaying on Pluto TV) and as an adult it just doesn’t hit quite the same way. I’ve often felt nostalgic for the show probably because as a teenager there was so much to relate to, as an adult I have some different opinions BUT at the time it helped us through plenty. It makes me yearn for something similar but instead of the adolescent themes and topics, something the adults could relate to. It doesn’t need to be the same characters grown up, sure it would be fun to revisit some old characters. Similar to how we got to see some degrassi junior high/degrassi high characters but for the most part it was all new characters.
The themes/topics could be navigating the different crises we deal with as adults as a bit of reprieve from actually dealing with them every day. Something about watching a fictional character going through the same things we see is just… comforting. Getting a mortgage, having kids, losing a job, navigating the housing market, job hunting, divorce, feeling left behind when you’re in your 30s and all your friends are getting married and having kids and you’re still single, dealing with aging parents and losing them as an adult. They tried to show us some college life perspective when some characters graduated but it was mostly the high school experience. Something about degrassi was a perfect blank canvas to have all of the typical teenager issues come up, but we need that for the millennials who watched it and are now adults. Maybe there’s a show like this already not they all seem to center around something else. Maybe I just miss degrassi and it isn’t quite the same rewatching as an adult. That’s all.
Edit: I didn’t mean for this to seem like I’m looking for a show recommendation similar to what I’m describing. Like yes a show like this has been done before. Friends follows young adults as they figure out life. Sure. But I’m just wishing for a new show to exist in the degrassi universe. And I don’t mean a reboot series that picks up where all the characters we already know left off and shows us where they’ve been and what they’re up to, shows have already done this a hundred times and that’s not what I’m asking for either. A reboot like that really just gets the old audience on nostalgia and they do maybe one or two seasons. I’m hoping for a whole new show set in the degrassi universe centered around a community that lives on degrassi street or something instead of being centered around students at degrassi school. Maybe a few cameos from characters we know but MOSTLY new characters. This would allow for all new audiences without making it so they have to have watched the previous show(s) in order to enjoy the new show. I never watched the junior high/high shows until probably last year or so and I still enjoyed all of TNG/next class. A new show could stand all on its own and be enjoyed by a whole new audience but still pay some homage to previous characters or topics. So I’m hoping putting this out there is just some conversation that might spread and tell people some day eventually, maybe very far in the future, that there is a desire for a future series set around adults but not the same characters. A new set of characters to follow on degrassi street. If they have kids maybe they go to degrassi school. Maybe they go to yoga in Lakehurst or Barton neighborhoods. I don’t know. I guess I’m just wanting more in the degrassi universe but it feels weird as an adult wanting to keep watching shows about teenagers but I don’t solely want it to follow Emma and spinner or whatever holly j or Claire is doing now. New characters. Same world.

Discussion Degrassi hot takes/unpopular opinions
I’m bored, so what are your guys unpopular opinions or hot takes and why?
I don’t want another Emma and spinner shouldn’t have got married I want, I want something deep.
I’ll go first, I think Marco’s character is sadly one dimensional and kinda boring, (don’t get me wrong I love him but I feel like his story lines have to do with his sexuality)

Discussion Which episodes do you wish things had ended differently?
1) Emma getting punched out by Alex, at the end of Secret Part 2.
2) Peter getting expelled for spreading Manny's topless video.
3) Alex telling Paige and her mother to go to hell and resume stripping.
4) Darcy getting into big trouble for lying about Simpson touching her.
5) Jane refuses Declan's advances.
6) Clare gets KC and Jenna kicked out of the gifted program at the end of s9.

Unpopular Opinions/Hot Takes next class unpopular opinion
people really have nostalgia glasses on when it comes to the earlier seasons of degrassi. so many people hate on the next class and i won’t say that it’s great, mostly because the 10 episode per season format stifled a lot of character development, but it wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be. there’s a lot of cringe-worthy, boring, and annoying parts of the next generation just like in TNC. after re-rewatching degrassi i feel like the quality isn’t worse than TNG, it’s just not “the glory days” of degrassi. and honestly TNC had to be adapted to reach a new audience because it was competing with all the other teen shows airing after 2015 that “went there” while still trying to be kid/teen friendly, which was a pretty big feat.

Cast Watching season 14 and omg Zoe and these cheerleaders
Sorry I just want to share this somewhere. The girl who plays Zoe acts like an ABC Family/Freeform show character. Everything is so over-acted and she’ll just stop with that smirky smile for like 15 seconds til it switches scenes. And then the cheerleader girl with a pink pixie cut is also horrible. It feels like watching someone make fun of these shows on TikTok.
I didn’t think Zoe was this bad in season 13, or whatever her first season was. It’s like it got worse specifically in season 14.
I know all throughout Degrassi, some of the acting has been cringy, but lord.
This is my first time watching season 14 and I’m only 8 episodes in so no spoilers pls :) I’ve been a Degrassi fan since like 2007, but stopped watching after season 10 back in the day.

Discussion Meeting Shane Kippel at Anaheim Nostalgia Con 2025
I met Shane Kippel, the actor for Spinner Mason in Degrassi. He was a really nice and chill dude. We had a great convo about life and about his character in the show. He signed his autograph print for me and we took a pic. Awesome dude to meet.
