I'm starting to think that the creators had 0 experience making breakfast, or maybe even having it. The chocolate chips aren't being put in the batter, and Tim is worrying about extra sugar on pancakes, the things that get covered in syrup?

Depending on the chip, it could either be from too much sugar or they’re too dark and act as bit of a stimulant.

This being the umpteenth time I’ve seen this, what bugs me is a) she is putting them on later, and b) “later” makes no sense, because one does not simply sprinkle chocolate chips onto already-made pancakes to get chocolate chip pancakes.
