[TOOLS] Can I do a fade with this?

Post image
• Upvotes

Just got it from a friend and I want to try doing a taper fade. It has a adjustable guard but I don't know the size . I also have a T9 trimmer . I'm also new and this would be my first time trying to do a fade on myself

[SHORT HAIR] how do i fix this?

i tried to give myself a shaggy mullet, which i'm realizing now was maybe a bad idea to do DIY. i hate the back, but my girlfriend says it's perfectly fine. i feel like the disconnect between the layers is super noticeable.

i did most of the cut last night, showered and slept on it, and then did some extra point cutting today. i don't know if i should just leave it or keep trying to blend and potentially make it worse. i don't have the extra money to get it fixed professionally :/

Before you say it, i have searched!!

I just haven't found the exact tutorial for this! both that, and i haven't really figured out exactly how to style it. i shape it with a straightener, but it never gets quite as whispy as in the picture. would i need thinning shears? (╥_╥)

How would you fade the sides and back with 2in of hair on top?

Im a guy and have been cutting my own hair for a couple months and have been experimenting with many hair lengths and found that 1.75 inch on top and 1.25 in sides and back does the job surprisingly well, and just looks better in general than when i was doing shorter on both top and sides.

The thing is i find the haircut too "simple" and wanna look better groomed, i can use guards that long because of wavy/curly hair.

And, the longer my hair on top, the better I look (messy wavy style thats trendy right now)--the problem is the sides. When i try to match the 0.5in difference with 1.5 in on the sides and back, it looks unkept and makes my head shaped like a light bulb, even if i properly cut around the ears..

How would you fade the sides with guards in inches?

Thinking of doing a pretty shaggy hair cut...

I don't have chunking scissors, nor like a feather blade. Should I wait to do a pretty textured haircut after I've gotten them or is it possible to get the same (some what similar) effect with a regular pair of hair scissors?

Hi everyone. First I want to say thank you for the tips and comments on my previous post. I used some of them, added more layers and rinsed out my hair to get any conditioner clinging to the strands. I am much happier with this! To see the before pics go to my original post.

Clipper suggestions?

Hi all looking for clipper suggestions to use at home to keep my beard looking good as well as taper my sideburns between haircuts as I grow my hair out. I just recently bought the fadeking from Amazon but felt they weren’t that great.

[ALTERNATIVE] Looking for short/medium length alt cut inspo

I'm in my early 30s. My hair has been roughly shoulder length, no layers for like the past decade. I've done tons of colors in that time but I'm itching for a new cut. Something with a shaved section. I miss the way that feels. I've done the side shave and undercut before and liked them both.

I don't dress very alternative, I feel like my style would be "comfy whimsical" but I'm excited to just do anything different with my hair rn

ETA: why do people always DM when I post here? Why can't people just comment 🙃

Wahl clipper for personal use? (Non professional?

Hey all, first post here. I'm pretty new to doing my own grooming, trying to get my personal care sorted this year instead of outsourcing everything to the barber.

Quick context: my beard isn't long or short, it's medium, and I go for a faded look. Right now I hit the salon once or twice a month mostly just for the beard, and I'd love to start doing it myself to save that money. My hair I'm patient with and manage okay, it's the beard I keep messing up.

Here's my actual problem. With my regular beard trimmer I can never get it even. It comes out patchy and I end up going over the same spots three or four times and it still looks off. At the salon the guy does it in like one or two passes and it comes out clean. I asked what he was using and found out it's a clipper, not a trimmer, which I honestly didn't realize was a different thing until now.

So I want to try doing it at home. My beard grows fast too, so I'd be using it a lot. As a total beginner, which clipper should I be looking at? I keep seeing Wahl recommended everywhere, is that the one, or are there other brands or cheaper options that'd handle a medium faded beard?

And if I'm thinking about this wrong, like if I actually need a clipper plus a separate trimmer for the crisp lines, or if a beginner has no business attempting a fade at home yet, just tell me straight. I'd rather hear it now.

(I'm in India, so bonus points if it's something I can actually get here.)

Thanks in advance.

[BANGS/FRINGE] Need fix at front part

Hii guys, straight to the point

. You can see thick chunks of hair falling (ref: img -1,2,3). But I want it to fall like thin strands with texture (ref: img 4,5,6).

**For that I'm thinking of 2 options:**

  1. Leave front 0.3-5mm untouched. Cut beside hair layer by layer (starting from back).

  2. Use thinning shears.

Please suggest me what to do.

hair problem

ok, so i live in a pretty small city where almost every salon and barber shop is owned my foreigners who barely understand the local language and have little to no knowledge with different ( alternative ) hairstyles and layering... ive been trying for years to find a good barber or salon but all my efforts were futile.

Because of this im learning how to cut my own hair but im afraid to mess everything up cuz my hair is very thick and kinda short for the style im going for ( the back barely reaches the end of my neck and the front covers my whole forehead and eyebrows). Any suggestions on how i can cut my hair at home by nyself?

these are my inspos:

p.s. im still growing my hear till my shoulders, im just trying to keep my bushy hair at bay

This is about the max length I've been able to tolerate my hair. It usually between chin and shoulder length. But I've had funky cuts and colors many times and I'm ready for something new again. I'm open to any and all cut and color recommendations and tips!
