A 2027 third and a 2028 fifth.

On a personal level:

That feels a bit low, but the trade is understandable. It's hard to rebuild a team when you have so much salary tied into an OG.

50

u/MoistCloyster_ 15h ago

A 30 year old guard on the last year of his deal mid season. A first or second isn’t realistic.

5

u/mouthfire 15h ago

True enough. OGs in general aren't going to command that much capital.

2

u/Open_Pollution_8038 9h ago

You guys are wild, you know how hard it is to find quality offensive lineman?

14

u/shrimpynut 15h ago

Seattle doesn’t lose much if he chooses to not re-sign, but a huge upside for them being able to almost plug anyone at RB and gain good yardage. I doubt he was gonna come back to us, so better than nothing

4

u/Zzyzx8 14h ago

was hoping we’d get a second but considering the circumstances i’m content

9

u/PianistSalty3788 15h ago

How tf is that suppose to help us lmaoooo cant believe thats all they got for big Q

22

u/ComfortableOven4283 15h ago

Well, considering he had no incentive to re-sign with us, we got guaranteed value in future seasons for him, and we did right by him by sending him to a contender and not wasting this season for him entirely.

8

u/-Hyperactive-Sloth- 14h ago

They got all that for 9 games of playing. He’s a free agent still after the season

4

u/bigloudbang 14h ago

Not worth it

2

u/uncleshiesty 15h ago

That's it?

27

u/Spartansoldier-175 15h ago

His contract is up. We really had no leverage.

5

u/Icer333 12h ago

Some colts fans are so delusional I swear. There was a tweet about him and JT getting traded for a first and second and being upset about that...

16

u/Hoosier2016 15h ago

Contract year so they’re only paying for a half a season. 3rd and a 5th ain’t a bad deal.

1

u/everyoneisntme 15h ago

A what? And a when?

252

u/jilderto1 16h ago

Knew it could happen. Still hurts

100

u/LackToesToddlerAnts 16h ago

Feel like JT getting moved now is inevitable?

59

u/mvbighead 16h ago

First thought I had. Q is a big part of our run game. You don't send him away and expect JT to perform better.

1

u/LackToesToddlerAnts 15h ago

McGowan also got 11 carries last game; it almost seems like they are ready to hand him the RB1 role for the season.

Move JT to the Vikings?

1

u/mvbighead 14h ago

Wouldn't surprise me. Force Giddens to get some reps as a backup, figure out where McGowan is.

28

u/Cowboy_BoomBap 16h ago

I’d imagine JT and Buck are both gone too. The only one that could go either way I think is Warren

118

u/Houseofshun 16h ago

I highly doubt Warren gets moved. He’s in his second year on a rookie deal with a fifth year option and has performed extremely well. Colts would be nuts to move him.

20

u/D1G1TAL_XI 16h ago

I second this. Warren is about the only one you keep. Everyone els needs to be traded.

1

u/EmergencySpare 15h ago

That's also his value to other teams. If we're tearing it down, Warren isn't in the window anyway.

24

u/Robocop52 16h ago

Warren, should not be on the table. That doesn't make any sense.

7

u/ComfortableOven4283 15h ago

You don’t trade young assets before a rebuild. You have to have something to build around.

1

u/matthollabak 16h ago

I still don't think jt gets moved unless someone overpays by a mile. With him under contract through the 28 season it would be just a stupid move to take a 3rd for him which is about the best I think you would see for a rb mid season.

0

u/Prof172 11h ago

Not necessarily. He'd be nice alongside a developing Qb. A threat in the run game and can catch passes fine. Can keep D honest and allow a chance to throw.

6

u/RoseRaving 16h ago

With him being in a contract year it was to be expected, but man still hurts.

1

u/jaysrule24 16h ago

Knew it needed to happen, but also I am currently in Spain without the S

487

u/ChiefScallywag 16h ago

Hurts bad but honestly makes me feel better given that it’s Seattle. Gives him a chance to win and play for a good team. We will always love you Big Q

107

u/TheLivingMeme-olith 16h ago

it sucks, but if anyone on this roster deserves a shot at contention, it’s Nelson. as much as i wanted him here til the end, i’m happy to see him get this chance

43

u/Guuhatsu 16h ago

Would be interesting if the dealt Buckner to San Francisco and he and Q had to line up against each other

4

u/Distntdeath 11h ago

Good call

1

u/Inevitable_Cake4804 10h ago

You called it. Q vs. Buck, 11/29

1

u/RevCody 9h ago

a few hours later Buck goes back to San Fran. So it will happen. Now they get to go full force on each other in a game, not just in practice.

25

u/theprophecyMNM 16h ago

Yeah thank god it’s Seattle

38

u/no__sympy 14h ago

Hawks fan here. I've gotta say you guys are some real ones. Rebuilds suck, but I hope your team rebuilds quickly and is back vying for titles soon.

17

u/sirius4778 14h ago

We've been putting off the rebuild for so long. If the jets didn't own this 1st round pick I'd feel okay about ripping the band aid off. I think it's going to be 4 or 5 years before we're relevant again at best. Good luck to you guys

7

u/experionnnnn 13h ago

Get ready for the best teammate/ player you ever ever had at o line

-8

u/THEYDIEDYEARSAGO 14h ago

most cringe inducing thing about sports redditors is this type of comment lol

0

u/WrathfulHero 13h ago

Man fuck off. Dude comes here to be nice and you essentially spit in their face?

22

u/CpowOfficial 16h ago

I live in Seattle so I'm okay with this

11

u/CK0428 16h ago

I'm a Colts & Hawks fan so I can live with this. Also dig when the Mariners & Reds link up.

3

u/drnjj 13h ago

I'm not in Seattle but in WA, so it seems like there are dozens of us. But I am glad that he's going to a team that I can still see him play at a high level and he has a shot at winning.

The fire sale has started

22

u/hacky_potter 16h ago

Buckner, JT, Grover, Ward. Any others we think will be gone?

20

u/LiquidDreamtime 16h ago

Daniel Jones should be gone. I’d send him to the Browns WITH a 5th rounder for their trouble. We get nothing in return.

3

u/hacky_potter 16h ago

Why would the Browns take him? This is going to hurt but….. a new GM might not mind having Jones there as the QB next year so we can bottom out when we have a first round pick.

7

u/LiquidDreamtime 16h ago

I’m joking. Jones sucks and I want him off the roster.

1

u/SloppyPizzaPie 16h ago

I personally don’t expect much more before the trade deadline. Get a few picks to bolster the draft, then let the next GM do the rest.

2

u/Sad_Membership_5208 15h ago

I think Buckner will get traded for sure. Stewart is probably 50/50. I don’t see anyone else getting moved. Taylor is like a 10% chance.

2

u/hacky_potter 16h ago

You mean more than JT Buck and Grove right?

3

u/Solomatrix 16h ago

Doesn't make sense to move JT unless someone wildly overpays. Under contract through 2028 and like 17m in dead money if traded.

2

u/SloppyPizzaPie 15h ago

They’re the most likely to be traded (maybe not JT based on recent news), but I would be very surprised if we see more than 1 more trade before the deadline.

Disclaimer: I’m a just a fan, not an expert, and I’m often wrong.

1

u/Prison-M1ke 16h ago

Downs?

0

u/hacky_potter 16h ago

Maybe. I would let just trade him to trade though. He’s on a rookie deal for a couple more seasons.

3

u/Emotional_Trip_706 15h ago

He's in the final year of his contract rn, we should definitely be shopping him

-4

u/Sluice_Mountain 16h ago

I know he missed two last game, but Shrader has been solid and could maybe get a good return? Although, a consistent kicker is a hard one to replace.

11

u/hacky_potter 16h ago

I don’t see a kicker bringing in any real value

1

u/jerhinesmith 12h ago

OH MY GOD, WE'RE HAVING A FIRE

SALE

107

u/DaBlakMayne 16h ago

Goodbye my sweet prince 😭

165

u/grapplerone 16h ago

This tells me that they are definitely tearing things down; especially with the older vets.

Honestly not the first move anyone expected.

25

u/whosthatguy123 15h ago

But absolutely necessary and the first correct move this team has had in years

119

u/HopOnMyArk 16h ago

Him and JT are gonna hurt the most

27

u/Snead5ter 16h ago

I’m hoping we manage to keep JT. Let him retire with us. At this point it’s becoming unlikely though.

33

u/MailAmbitious8692 16h ago

I feel that but there’s no point to keep him if we’re getting rid of the O-Line. Need to just get the most we can out of everyone at this point. It’s going to be a sad few years coming up.

10

u/Prophessor_Z 16h ago

I'd rather see him win somewhere than retire with us, he deserves it.

1

u/Snead5ter 16h ago

He stated recently he wants to be a lifetime Colt

5

u/MailAmbitious8692 15h ago

And that would be awesome, I wouldn’t even be mad at it, but at the end of the day it is a business and I’m sure the front office knows it’s best to get something in return while we still can.

4

u/TheNamelessOne913 16h ago

I really hope we keep JT. I would love for him to retire a Colt but I understand he might be on the move. Makes me more disgusted with Ballard and his ineptness

1

u/khuz61 16h ago

I feel like he’s on the move. He’s 27 and not getting any younger. IMO he deserves to be on a team that isn’t constantly rebuilding

1

u/Wrong_Interview7513 16h ago

Watch JT end up in Green Bay or Minnesota

2

u/Snead5ter 16h ago

Panthers - He would really elevate them

0

u/Smallgenie549 16h ago

My wife is a Vikings fan and we live in Green Bay so honestly the best options imo.

348

u/DipperPRC 16h ago

I fucking hate this timeline. Fuck Ballard. Fuck Steichen, they ruined the fucking team I love.

112

u/oatmeal-claypole 16h ago

Trading TWO picks for Sauce was GM malpractice , shouldnt have offered more than one

83

u/Smallgenie549 16h ago

Two first rounders for Sauce while getting a 3rd and a 5th for Nelson makes me sad.

51

u/oatmeal-claypole 15h ago

Sauce was overpay but we have contract control over him, he just got an extension. Big Q is not under contract, seahawks will need to pay him after this year. That affects the compensation

3

u/Smallgenie549 15h ago

Yeah, I get it, but I’m just sad. :(

0

u/jhudiddy08 13h ago

Yeah, but if he played it out and we let him walk in FA, we would have gotten a 3rd round compensatory pick back anyway. They sent an extra 5th for a rental. Feels pretty cheap for a player of his caliber

1

u/subHOU 14h ago

Agreed, but pretty sure he needed ownership approval before executing that trade?

1

u/Carpomusik 12h ago

Should be illegal

67

u/airforcekj 16h ago

It started with Harambe…

3

u/Wareagle930 14h ago

It started with Grigson.

1

u/sp00geMcDuck 13h ago

Exactly why we didnt need to hire Steichen. Nothing good comes from Philly

1

u/Consistent-Park2058 10h ago

And I hated frank Reich at the end... Things could be worse

1

u/ellzray 15h ago

Bro, we were a mess before Steichen even got here, lol. I get he hasn't elevated things, but he's had crap to work with. He could be a great coach (I don't think he is atm) but we'd never be able to tell.

1

u/00Samwise00 15h ago

Steichen honestly has nothing to do with this, the core was rotten long before he got here. I don't think any other coach comes in here and makes a difference given what the GM was giving him to work with.

1

u/DipperPRC 15h ago

Fuck that, he’s shitten the bed on every big chance he’s gotten, isn’t his record like 1-20 against .500 teams?

They’re both accountable

94

u/mstun3107 16h ago

I understand why the trades have to happen, but doesn't make it any less sad. Sucks to see Q go. I wanted him to be a Colt lifer.

-13

u/YouWereBrained 16h ago

Q has always been this lightning rod player for me…

The only real reason we drafted him was as a sort of overreaction to Luck retiring. Because Luck had no protection…but then he retired so it didn’t matter.

(I’m kinda oversimplifying things, admittedly.)

17

u/ryanwc18 16h ago

I mean Q was drafted before Luck retired

2

u/Main-Currency-9175 16h ago

Clairvoyant Chris?

0

u/YouWereBrained 15h ago

I know. Too little too late. But he was drafted because the o-line had been neglected for so long, leading to Luck being constantly pressured, getting injured, etc.

4

u/ColtsStampede 16h ago

We drafted him before Luck retired, so I don't see how it was dn overreaction?

3

u/CodeFeeling1294 16h ago

Q played with Luck for 1 year lmao

3

u/da_real_21 15h ago

Had Luck retired before Q was drafted we’d likely have Josh Allen right now

41

u/aidub5 16h ago

The fire sale has begun... Good. Sucks to see our best players go but it's time for a clean slate.

4

u/Individual_Rest_4542 15h ago

Dolphins fan here. It's absolutely the right thing to do. Good luck out there

36

u/RichyVersace 16h ago

End of an era. Gonna miss you Q

25

u/AxPlayfulxJab 16h ago

Damn this hurts. Gonna miss seeing those pancakes... JT pulling behind him downhill was amazing to watch.

40

u/LurchRPH 16h ago

JT gonna be gone, Buck, and anyone else that can bring some draft picks to the team. Gonna be a wild ride rebuilding the team

17

u/phiche3 16h ago

"We're the Cleveland Browns"

"No, you're the Indianapolis Colts. We're the Cleveland Browns!"

Both: "Mmmmmmm, punts"

1

u/LurchRPH 16h ago

no kidding

19

u/Landon289 16h ago

Sucks that Ballard let it get to this but good for Nelson. Go win one, Q.

17

u/TeeDubs317 16h ago

I think many people don’t understand the true value of a 30 soon to be 31 year old guard

34

u/TexasFiend 16h ago

All time great Colt. Will be missed

16

u/LurchRPH 16h ago

A 3rd and a 5th for Q.... Yeah the team is in fire sale mode

15

u/Ling0 16h ago

I hope he knows how much the fans love him and will miss him. By far one of my favorite colts players in history!

14

u/Dance4theSmokers 16h ago

Welp here it begins, appreciate all you did for the team Q

84

u/Psyren1317 16h ago

Damn. This one hurts. He was supposed to retire here but this franchise fucked him over his whole career. I will miss the hell out of him, but he deserves a chance to go compete

57

u/InfiniteOutfield 16h ago

I'm not sure paying him the money he's been paid is "fucking him over". There's plenty of guys who play on bad teams their entire careers, it just happens. But if that's anyone's definition of getting fucked over, I volunteer as tribute.

-1

u/Psyren1317 16h ago

You know exactly what I meant. Nobody in the NFL is getting fucked over financially, except maybe PS players. That's a stupid point to make. The point is we fielded a pretty noncompetitive team for the majority of his career. He was a great player and they screwed him in the sense that they never bothered to put anyone competent in charge.

8

u/Legitimate-Map-3111 15h ago

Fkd him over? Dude got paid & colts did everything for him. And traded him to a contender. Just stop this stupid shit.

35

u/TheBoilerCat 16h ago

3rd and a 2028 5th beats a comp pick I guess. This next week is gonna suck.

14

u/adam2890 16h ago

I’m not a Colts fan, but I would think based on how he will be paid, a 3rd compensatory pick would be a given. Really the 2028 5th is what you got for the rest of the season.

16

u/TheBoilerCat 16h ago

Seattle’s pick is gonna be better than the end of round comp pick too. Not by a lot, but still better.

If we had taken the comp pick, we’d probably have to trade a 5th or something to move up from the comp pick to wherever Seattle’s pick lands.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/ColtsClown 15h ago

It's likely, but not guaranteed. And the comp pick would be in 2028, so they're getting it a year earlier as well.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Admirable_Message497 14h ago

We only get the comp pick if we don’t sign a similar amount of players in the offseason. We’re going to have some money this year, and with no first round pick I could imagine the new GM wanting to swing on some young free agents, meaning we are likely to potentially bring in more players than we lose, and not getting any comp picks.

This trade at least guarantees it

0

u/Particular-Aspect680 15h ago

Its a shit trade, we couldnt even get a 2nd rounder. A 5th is more likely to be cut than make the roster given our drafting history.

12

u/foundrycollegehangar 16h ago

Just feels wrong. Go get a ring Big Q.

12

u/richyque 16h ago

He will be a free agent after this season, smart to get some draft picks for him.

1

u/etsuandpurdue3 11h ago

Can we sign him back?

12

u/Carpomusik 16h ago

Ballard really fucked us up for 15 years

12

u/NDinFL 15h ago

I’m never changing my flair idgaf. Go get your ring Q

22

u/FxStryker 16h ago

Any and everyone is available.

It needed to be done. Patching the last 10 years didn't work. No need to try and keep it together.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/TallNapoleon 16h ago

Nelson was the one player I hoped we kept :(

11

u/Admirable-Ad-9796 16h ago

Not really surprising to see this sub blowing up and having a roller coaster of emotions. It is unfortunate and sad, but that’s really not a terrible deal considering the implosion/current rebuild of the organization, his “age”, his contract…

Again, unfortunate, but that’s probably the best we were going to do. Let him go try to win a chip with an organization who’s at least somewhat competent before he retires.

8

u/Canadian-Gold 16h ago

Necessary, but painful nonetheless. Goodbye Big Q, Colts legend.

18

u/StoneCS- 16h ago

Only a 2027 3rd and 2028 5th?

28

u/optometrist-bynature 16h ago

He’s only guaranteed to be on their team for half a season

→ More replies (3)

12

u/scobro828 16h ago

Hey they got a '28 5th. That's gravy. Most people were saying 3rd or 4th for him.
