CAO UCC vs UL

Hi,

I'm filling out my CAO this year and thinking of doing Speech and Language Therapy. I'm tied between UL and UCC for it. I was at both Open Days and I liked the societies part of UCC and courses etc. Campus was nice was a bit spread out. UL had a good course too, and a really nice campus and so many facilities. I was originally going for UCC, but I went to the UL Open Day in January and loved it. Is there anyone that goes to either that could give me an insight into accommodation, social life or any pros and cons please?

Course Advice Course Dillema

I did the leaving cert this year and got 521 points , I am taking a gap year and will be applying for college next year , I am stuck between 2 courses , Advanced Therapeutic Technologies in RCSI and Psychology (through science) in Maynooth. Psychology is appealing to me because you can be your own boss later on in your career , I know that there is postgraduate study involved to become a clinical psychologist and that is fine with me I've heard that it is quite competitive though. ATT interests me because I love clinical trials and tests , and I want to design clinical trials and draw conclusions from them. Any advice would be appreciated i.e salary , worklife balance , enjoyment.

I make videos on YouTube, I’ve added two here for reference, and would like to try to make it a career but I don’t know what course relates the most to it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lDHW792D777zItDNr2ljs_8hD6_Giq2K/view?usp=drive_web

CAO Help finding an anatomy CAO course

Help finding a CAO course!
I’m in 6th year and struggling to find a course that suits my interests. I’m really interested in anatomy, physiology and how the human body works, especially the brain, nervous system and muscles.
I don’t want to do medicine, nutrition, biomed or pure sports science, and I’d prefer a course that focuses on the human body rather than mainly cell biology or lab work.
I’m looking for courses in Ireland with points up to around 500, preferably in or near Dublin.
What CAO courses would you recommend? If you’re doing one, I’d love to hear what you think of it!
Thanks :)

Accommodation Rent demand near Limerick

Hi all does anyone know if there would be a demand for students renting a room about 30mins from Limerick city and around 50mins to Thurles?
How much would you be willing to pay for a room with a shared bathroom plus bills this much away from a college?

Course Advice People who initially hated their course did you end up liking it?

I struggled through the leaving cert but somehow managed to get my first choice via dare (art history so not very impressive ig). It’s exactly like I thought it would be except I’m really not enjoying it as much as I should. Often I just get up at leave my lectures after 30 minutes because they’re so boring. My parents don’t want me to drop out though cuz they think I just need more time to settle in before I know how I feel but the deadline to withdraw from Trinity to get my money back is the end of October. Did anyone else feel this way and end up liking it after they stayed?

Course Advice Studying in Ireland as an EU student, costs and whether to do my bachelor’s or master’s there?

hi everyone!! :) im currently trying to figure out where i would like to study after highschool. I have been thinking about studying abroad for a while now, and after my studies i would like to stay abroad. Right now im interested in ireland, and i would love to hear from people who study there. Im interested in psychology but im also open to considering other degrees, something related to marketing, business, consumer behaviour or communications.
Right now im considering two options:

  1. doing my bachelor’s degree in Ireland and hopefully staying there for a master’s afterwards.
  2. studying in czech republic at a public university (since I’m slovak, studying in czech wouldn’t be a problem for me and tuition at public universities is generally free for czech-taught programmes), then applying for a master’s in ireland.

I originally considered studying psychology in english at charles university in prague, but the tuition fees are probably outside my budget.

One of the reasons Ireland caught my attention is the possibility of having tuition covered partly through the Free Fees Initiative, and potentially receiving financial support depending on household income. I still need to look into the exact requirements, so im not assuming i would automatically qualify. Also i think this is just for a bachelor’s degree, but im hoping that by the time I start my master’s, i will have saved up enough money.

I have also considered the Netherlands, but im a little worried about the language barrier after graduation if i wanted to work there long-term.

So i guess my questions are: If you study in Ireland, how has your experience been so far? Are you happy with your university and student life?

How difficult is it to find affordable accommodation?

If you are an EU student, how manageable are the overall costs of studying and living there?

Do you think ireland is a good option for someone who would ideally like to stay and work there after graduating?

Is it diffucult to get accepted to a university in ireland?

Im still exploring my options, so im definitely open to other degree suggestions too. Thank you for taking the time to read this, i would appreciate any advice or personal experiences :)

I’d really appreciate it if you could spare 2–3 minutes to complete my anonymous survey. You don’t need investment experience to participate!

I am conducting my final year research project at independent college in Dublin on factors influencing the adoption of digital banking over traditional banking.

If you were born between 1981 and 1995 and currently live in Ireland, I would really appreciate your participation. It takes 3- 5 minutes, thank you.

College Life What's NCI like?

I'm interested in NCI mainly because it's on the cheaper side and since it's PSI approved. However I've been seeing a mix of posts mostly coming from programming students at how messy the curriculum is n stuff, most of it being from a year or even twelve years ago. I haven't really seen a lick of people talking about how the psych course is there. I'd really like to hear from students so I know what to expect ^-^ thank you!!

Rant/Vent Should I drop out of college?

Hey all, I am a freshman in college studying psychology as my first choice on the CAO. The problem is I'm not enjoying the course at all, I am more a logistic person and would prefer something a lot more maths heavy. It also doesn't really have any jobs that I'd like. I don't know why I picked it as my first choice but I did. I have a good leaving cert so i can pratically choose whatever course I would like. I would like to transfer to a different course next year. My problem is that I’m scared to drop out because I’m worried about what it would do to my mental health. Being unemployed over the summer was awful for me. I applied for loads of jobs and never heard back from any of them, and I spent the whole summer in a really bad place. It wasn’t just feeling low. I was throwing up and having constant anxiety attacks. I need to stay busy to stay sane. So my original plan was to finish this year and then transfer. The issue is that SUSI won’t cover first year of a new course if I’ve already done a year somewhere else, so I’d have to pay extra fees, which would come to around €6,000 for that one year. But if I drop out before October 30th, I keep my money and SUSI will fund my next course as if I’d never started college. Yes it seems obvious what I should do which is to dropout and save a TON of money but I'm scared of what will happen to me mentally if I do so. If anyone has any advice please lmk!.
