Help a Tourist Out of my 33yrs of being from Cleveland I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A BEACH HERE.
Me and my sister did not know that there was a beach here. If I would’ve known we would have stayed home lmao.

I’ll keep it short.
My fiance and I moved to Columbus last year and it is our first time in the Midwest. We had the pleasure of visiting Cleveland this weekend and were so impressed overall, but mostly of how friendly everyone here was.
Any insight?

I often scroll through Zillow when I'm bored, and i decided to look into the Midwest because it's an area of the country that I frequently ignore. I found single-family homes in nice neighborhoods in Cleveland priced at $200,000 and $400,000. This is surprising to me because these homes would be worth over a million dollars in my neighborhood. Is there not a housing crisis?

Headed to Cleveland soon and looking for a gift to bring back to a friend. She artsy and a foodie if that helps narrow it down.

Just spent four days in your city and absolutely loved it! It’s great what they’ve done with buildings downtown and the new residential construction I saw next to the river and in Ohio city.
That said - I was incredible confused and alarmed by the fact that there is almost zero people in downtown, regardless of day and time of day. What’s going on? Where are the people that go to the offices? And that literally live downtown? I spent 3 days waking around and would barely encounter a soul walking on the sidewalks

Flew over, looks like grow lights? But a giant warehouse with a clear roof? Anyone have any idea what this is?

I'm from New Jersey and a coworker of mine was from Cleveland. At one point, she brought her husband to work to meet all of us. His name was Julius, so I jokingly asked him if at any point he'd been called Orange Julius (like the drink), since it's not a name I commonly see. All of the sudden, his expression changed, and he told me not to call him Orange Julius, because that term is racist. For context, I'm white, he's black. I obviously apologized and said I was unaware and would not say it again.
All of this was maybe a decade ago at this point. I have never heard of or seen Orange Julius in any sort of racial context. He was not pulling my leg, he was deathly serious. Is this some sort of localized slang to Cleveland? This has haunted me for years and is deeply enigmatic and I have never seen him again so I have had no way to ask him about it.

My toxic trait is that having lived my entire life in Cleveland, Water = North.
Water being North is so ingrained into my brain that I take it everywhere I go and it’s a problem.
Edit: I don’t use never eat soggy waffles for directions, I’m a landmark type person.
Take a left as the shady gas station, go past the house with the ugly lawn decorations and make the next right, I’m 3 houses down on the left.

My partner and I love museums, but I think we’ve seen everything in university circle (art, natural history, modern art, western reserve, botanical, even the dittrick!
We’ve been to buckland and the science center and rock hall as well, but what I’m really looking for is small off the wall collections. Even like galleries or outside art installations that you think really need to be seen.

I’m staying here and as of a Saturday afternoon with decent weather, the entire area is dead. There’s construction material laying around everywhere and margaritaville has a boarded up door and their sign removed. Did the area turn unsafe or are businesses leaving?

Visiting from Pittsburgh for the Murakami exhibit. We had a freaking blast !! Those mansions in the Heights , wow !! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was just ok for my wife and I , but that Art Museum is a stunner !! We spent a few hours at the Park by Lake Erie with the amphitheater steps . Gorgeous!! We will be back for sure . What should we put on our list for our next visit ?

Hello! My Dad and I are travelling over from Europe to see Rush in concert (the weekend of September 18–20). We chose Cleveland before the NFL schedule was announced, figuring we'd have decent odds of seeing an NFL game. I'm a Lions fan, so we were planning to travel to Detroit or otherwise catch a Browns game.
Unfortunately, the schedule Gods didn't favour us so we'll be looking for a good sports bar downtown to watch some NFL.
Which sports bar would you recommend for watching the games? Do they tend to get pretty busy, and is it worth arriving well before kickoff to get a seat?
Also, would I be okay wearing my Lions jersey? I figure it might be a good conversation starter, but I'll leave it at the hotel if it's likely to invite any problems!
And if anyone has any other recommendations for things to do around downtown Cleveland, I'd love to hear them. We've got tickets to see the Guardians (although we know absolutely nothing about baseball!) and we'll be visiting the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Thanks all!
Edit - Just to clarify we’ll be staying downtown. Thanks!

Dear Clevelanders,
I love your fine city. I have been here before on work travel but only got one full day. I started at the Rowley Inn and had the most incredible bartender and corned beef hash. They don’t even sell that where I live! Said bartender recommended a walk in Lake View Cemetery. That was a misty March day and I had the cemetery to myself. It actually sparked a personal interest in visiting cemeteries because it was so captivating. I also made it to West Side Market and flew home with a bag of fresh pierogis in my backpack.
I am pleased to report that I am back!
When I rolled into town, I visited an estate jewelry shop. I usually look for these when I travel and they can be hard to find. I had the most delightful experience and walked out with a new (to me) piece at a great price.
I went to Cordelia’s tonight and enjoyed the best salad in recent memory. The pickles on the burger box were both neon and absolutely delicious.
Anywho, I’m planning to hit the Guardians game tomorrow and I’m pumped. Just wanted to shoutout all of the great things I’ve experienced in your city! I’m also open to suggestions since I’ll be frolicking about your town before 7:10 tomorrow. Thank you for having me!

I just wanted to thank all the people who offered me suggestions a couple months ago on places for my family to check out while we were in Cleveland for Spring Break! Here is a list of what we made it to this time:
- Southern Tier taproom (amazing service, great food!)
- Brecksville Nature Center (walked trails, saw some beautiful views, met more super nice locals)
- b.a. sweetie Candy Store and Ice Cream shop
- Rockefeller Park and Greenhouse (such a beautiful assortment of flowers! never would have known about it without this community!)
- West Side Market for Pierogi Palace, also got some yummy baked goods!
- Rock and Roll HOF
- Great Lakes brewery (were here during a tornado warning and power outage, thankfully we had already finished eating. staff were outstanding during the whole thing!)
- Fannie Mae factory
- Pro Football HOF
- Lucky's Cafe (best breakfast ever!)
- Boston Mill Visitor Center at Cuyahoga
- Daffodil Trail
Cleveland was the first city my hubby and I stopped when we took a road trip honeymoon almost 11 years ago. I was worried that I was remembering it with "rose colored glasses", but the whole experience was true to my memory. Thanks again for helping make our family trip so special! 💜

I am stunned at how easy it is to walk around downtown. Just today I was able to walk to the Cavs arena, the Guardians field, and the Browns stadium. Unreal. No car, no Uber, no bike…just my old feet.
I am a small town person. Sometimes walking around cities can be intimidating, and confusing. But, it’s been incredibly easy to find places downtown.

Hi, folks. Madisonian here, and recent first-time visitor to your fair city (three weeks ago--loved it)! I am speaking at a couple of conferences in NYC in August. I am a poor grad student and only recently found out that I won an award to present at one...late enough in the game that the award, though generous, won't cover more than about half the flight for me and my wfie.
So, we are thinking of driving. Having just made the drive to CLE, we have no concerns with it--we like long, boring roadtrips around the Midwest. However, in the past, I've had some less-than-great experiences roadtripping from the East Coast to the Midwest and ending up on some pretty crazy mountain roads without intending to, with no one in the car feeling totally up for it. I can handle it, but I'd like to at least know how hairy things get, and it's kinda hard to figure out from topological maps.
I have seen a number of threads in the subreddit about this drive, so I assume a few people in CLE do this drive regularly. How mountainous does it get on the 80 route? Knowing a bit about the Pittsburgh and Binghamton areas, I am guessing the 76 and 86 routes become pretty white-knuckle in places.

I wish the two cities didn’t have a rivalry.
I absolutely love Cleveland and will defend it when I get a chance.
I love the diversity of Cleveland (which is stronger than Pittsburgh,) I love going to all the kosher delis around Shaker Heights. I know the Cleveland area has the largest Puerto Rican population outside of the east coast. And guess you have one of the largest Turkish populations in the country?
Your metro area is beautiful, especially Chagrin Falls, Cuyahoga Falls, Mentor and Kirkland Hills (love Headlands, the marsh, and the Arboretum,) and I love Amish country in Geuaga County; it reminds me of nearby New Wilmington. I never really explored Lorain or Medina. I was also surprised how many waterfalls are near Cleveland.
I prefer the Cleveland Zoo over Pittsburgh’s (but out aquarium is better ;) the rainforest exhibit is my favorite part. The “SS William G. Matter” is a unique museum.
I try to make it up to Cleveland in the winter to see if the lighthouse freezes over. I haven’t been since 2018. I want to see a waterspout so badly!
I enjoy Cleveland every single time I visit. What else do you think I should see?

Visiting for a wedding and walking around the downtown area only to be walking through hoards of flying bugs. What are they? I’m from Alabama so bugs don’t bother me, especially the ones that don’t bite but I was just curious about them. Are they here al the time or just this time of year. Thanks!

We’re in town for the week and my kid loves car tunnels. He’s been asking about them all afternoon as we make our way there. Are there any in Cleveland that we can drive through?
We went through this one in Shenandoah about 10 times.
We live in Austin and there aren’t any tunnels there.

Hello! I’m flying into Cleveland in about 4 hours and I’m dying for some awesome food. I can get pretty much anywhere for the next few days. Tell me the best spots to hit! No seafood spots 🤗
Thank you!
