Do you all ever go after Nalanda?

• Upvotes

Seems like it's always one of the harder ones to get since the AI loves to beeline for it. But even if I have a Culture-heavy civ, it seems to be better to focus on Sanchi Stupa instead. I know Nalanda helps you catch up a bit on Science, but it seems more beneficial in the long run to just lean into the culture output. There are other ways of getting a little science boost after all. The other benefit of Nalanda I guess is having the next civic get you Angkor, but even that takes a lower priority to me than Sanchi.

City Names

Wondering if anybody else likes to rename their cities to fit a theme. My last campaign was Wheel of Time themed. Town and city names like Two Rivers, Baerlon, Caemlyn, Fal Dara, Tar Valon, Shayol Ghul (always by a volcano)

I’ve done a few others, mostly sci-fi/fantasy but sometimes I’ll do like cities from the Real Housewives franchise or something ridiculous and fun.

Unique Improvements galore

I had a fun game with this Buganda roll in general but I really like this GBR settlement. Serpent Mound with a bunch of unique improvements. I made it a city but kept it as a Resort town for the final age

I was able to settle a bunch of lakes.

Has anybody else realized that there are now antiquity and exploration era tracks for modern era civs?

I started a game the other night as Mexico in antiquity and heard a new antiquity version of their main theme. I was even more surprised when i transitioned to the exploration era which also had its own version. As far as I know I think just about every civ has its own, I tried other modern civs like Buganda and Joseon. I'm just anxious for somebody to post them all since I can barely find any videos of it on youtube.

What criteria do you use to determine whether to make a town a city? How many cities to towns do you have?

Is good production the only requirement for a city? Whenever I sieze a capital or former capital from an enemy I'm always tempted to make it a city.

If in the future we get a religious victory, which leaders would you like to see?

I've been thinking about who could be great religious leaders now that they don necessary have to be country rulers and I have come to hink about three:

Cardinal Richelieu: (Diplomatic/Religious) I think he could be militaristic, however due to the espionage stuff I think he would fit better as diplomatic. In this sense, It would be cool if he had some ability that allowed him to buff misionaries, something like "Eminence Grey" where his missionaries could trigger espionage actions on the country they are but paying faith instead of influence.

Rasputin: (Diplomatic/Religious) I also think he would fit with these two fields, but instead espionage, It would be cool if he could have somethin to change the trajectory/interest of other leaders, like making them accept endeavours that are not really as they seem or sometihng like that.

Cecile Fatiman (Militaristic/Religious) She was the haitian vodoo priestess who helped trigger the haitian revolution (I would love to see revolutionary Haiti as a civ) so i dont know what abilities she could have honestly.

What do you think?

Coming up on Modern Age for my first Cultural victory. Any guidance?

I'm playing on Viceroy. I'm pretty much dominating every category at the end of exploration. I spammed walls in antiquity, and got as many unique improvements as I could in each settlement. I think I should be able to turtle my way to a win, but I may devour a neighbor's capital just to be sure.

I've only played to Modern Age a couple of times, and both times I didn't make it that far because I won a military victory early in the age.

What civics should are important early on? What wonders should I go for? Are there any techs that are essential? How do you maximize tourism?

Play as Australia

To whoever would like to play on the Australian part of the Earth map and have the capital city there (to build Factories in modern era).

Play as Hawaii, your settler can move to Australia.

Settle your town there.

Let the barbarians destroy your capital (on the Hawaii island)

Your capital is now in Australia.

Resource Planner 1.1.0: happiness filling and remembered settlement roles in Civ VII

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

I'm the author of Resource Planner, an extension for beezany's Resource Re-sorts. It requires that mod to be enabled.

The main additions are grouped/sortable settlements, Fill for negative happiness, and remembered yield preferences with allocation across settlements. Existing allocations stay in place by default; you can include them or camels when you want a broader rearrangement.

Pair it with Garbage Time to apply remembered priorities automatically once per eligible local-player turn, using unassigned resources by default.

Version 1.1.0 supports English and Simplified Chinese. Mac 1.5.0 Metal checks covered language display, mouse resource interaction, happiness filling and preference assignment. Physical-controller and multiplayer acceptance are incomplete.

The game still enforces trade connections, capacity and resource locks. This is not a guarantee of globally optimal allocation, and other mods replacing the same resource page may conflict.

If you try it, which settlement/resource combinations are hardest to plan around?

Image 1: Cities and towns are grouped separately, with happiness sorting to help locate settlements that need resources. (v1.1.0, Mac, October 23.)

Image 2: This fill assigned seven resources. Kamakura’s happiness rose from −9 to −6; limited resources can still leave a shortfall.

Image 3: The production-focused capital rose from 109 to 114 production, while the science-focused settlement rose from 47 to 55 science.

Why can’t the devs use an AI learning model to create bots that actually play the game well instead of relying on cheats to beat you.

No choice on a city-state and an unaligned bonus?

Post image

EDIT: lmao I just realized it doesn't even let me build a Minor Embassy at that. Literally just completely wasted influence

I was befriending a Military city state to try and get another military bonus, but when I successfully befriended Shangjing (A Military City State), it just gave me Minor Embassy (a Diplomatic bonus) without any choice. Haven't seen that one before, any idea why that would happen?

+51 Combat Strength from Traditions (Lafayette, Han, Normans, Mexico)

17 Traditions slotted × (Lafayette ability, Norman cavalry tradition, and Mexico’s tradition for land units in friendly territory) = +51 combat strength... Won domination peacefully before this.

Got my victory over two months ago and started a new campaign while knocking off the last players left on this one. Tubman was a nuisance the entire game, and I decided to just stay and make a point of defeating her. That proved to be a real pain in the ass.
A while back someone here mentioned a site or sub that was dedicated to game replays, does anyone know what I'm talking about? I have a monthlong struggle with her that I'd like to share.

For anyone who was agitated by Tubman, this one's for you.
I'm going to focus on Gao next.

What game speed and map styles do you like and how do they affect your play style?

I play on quick, I may try the online speed soon. I also play Continents and Islands on Standard map size, but have never tried anything different.

Is there a map style and civ combo that you like?

What game speed do you play on, and how long does it take you to complete a game?

I imagine larger maps and more civs makes it harder to win. Is that the case?

Has anybody done a huge map on marathon? Seems like that would take a year.

Not my mod, does what Drongo's now missing mod once did. Posted because I have 1800 hours in this game and having to spend another 30 playing a leader to unlock their mementos just pisses me off.

My thanks to to the mod maker, I was never gonna level Elizabeth without it.

Garbage Time: opt-in late-game chores automation for single-player Civ VII

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

I'm the author of Garbage Time. It handles the repetitive jobs that pile up once you are comfortably ahead of the AI.

From the Exploration Age onward, a dozen settlements can grow at once. Picking a tile or specialist in every one gets old fast. Treasure fleets nobody threatens and missionaries spreading an already dominant religion can feel much the same.

The six jobs are auto-rallying armies, assigning population, returning and unloading treasure fleets, spreading religion, researching techs and civics, and assigning resource cards. Idle cities can also keep running science/culture projects. Resource assignment requires Resource Planner plus Resource Re-sorts.

Everything starts off. New games and ages need enabling again. It never ends the turn or chooses diplomacy, policies or age-transition decisions. Its orders do change the current game, so enable only the jobs you intend to hand over.

The screenshots below show one Army Commander back home and asleep, Castles II filling an empty technology queue, and resources assigned in the background. These examples use Workshop 0.1.4 on Mac 1.5.0 Metal; they do not establish a full unattended campaign or physical-controller support. Some mod controls still display Chinese in the English game UI.

What repetitive late-game action would you most want to delegate?

Population choices use weighted net yields, including negative upkeep. For a hypothetical specialist with +2 Science, +2 Culture, −2 Food and −2 Happiness, the default score is 2×4 + 2×4 + (−2)×2 + (−2)×effective Happiness weight. Happiness has weight 0 while current net Happiness is nonnegative, or 8 otherwise. Both current and projected net Happiness must still exceed a separate threshold, default 0. Set global weights in Options → Additional Content, or open Configure in a city for an override.

Image 1: This Army Commander has automatically returned to a settlement we own and is now asleep.

Image 2: Technology automation has filled an empty research queue with Castles II, leaving the existing civic research unchanged.

Image 3: Eight resources were assigned while the resource panel was closed. Reopening it shows 129 Production in the capital and 55 Science in Erfen Keji.

City States in Antiquity and in general

When the game puts a City-State at every single chokepoint or good strategic place to settle, it curses you to waste time, production, and money that should be getting used for opposing other civilizations. I get it is a part of the game, but gets old after lots of play. I will quit these days at turn 67 because my life is too awesome to be wasted playing with the fickle hands of fate. I want to have fun. Grueling battles that become Pyhhric are not fun.

Edit: Thanx everyone. Gave upvotes, it’s all I have. The consensus and I agree, just hadn’t implemented these, is to move fast on these. I’m so focused on running my scouts.

I made No More Turn: timed breaks and a nightly stopping time for Civ VII

Thumbnail
gallery
15 Upvotes

I made a single-player mod for the point where ‘one more turn’ has stopped being a useful promise.

No More Turn offers timed breaks (25 minutes of play, then five minutes away by default), adjustable turn-based breaks (new defaults: 13/8/5/3/2 across successive 20-turn bands), and a nightly restriction. Time spent on a voluntary idle break can count toward the next break, and each break attempts a separate checkpoint.

Please check the night schedule before enabling it: it defaults to 22:00–07:00 local time. Break saves keep the newest ten across campaigns by default; other save types are not cleaned up.

Version 1.8.6 supports English and Simplified Chinese. These images were captured with version 1.8.5 on Mac 1.5.0 Metal, with temporary demonstration timings identified in the captions. Other platforms and physical controllers were not checked in this capture pass. It restricts the game, not the whole computer.

Would you use a clock-based stopping point, or does a turn-based one fit your games better?

Image 1: The timed break has started and its checkpoint is saved. This demonstration temporarily uses one minute of play and one minute of rest.

Image 2: The scheduled restriction is active. This demonstration temporarily uses 16:00–17:00; the default is 22:00–07:00.

Image 3: Default settings: 25 minutes of play, a five-minute break, and a 22:00–07:00 night restriction.

Image 4: The load list contains separate checkpoints created by the timed, turn-based and voluntary breaks.

How do you unlock and play Earth Map (TSL)?

I’ve tried searching for the map type in additional content or by creating a new game using different parameters. I can’t seem to find the Earth Map with true starting locations.

I appreciate the help. Thanks!
