As a kid and as an adult, I've always loved city builders. After I got my first 3D printer, I thought: how cool would it be to be able to build a city in real life, with residential areas, commercial areas, public buildings, etc.?

So I started designing buildings, streets and parks in voxel art, to stay true to the retro feel of the old city builders, which eventually turned into Pixelton: a physical miniature city builder that can live where you do.

My son and his friends loved playing with it, and so did my friends and co-workers, so I decided to turn it into a product, and my webshop just went live today! The Starter Kit is on pre-order and the first set of expansion packs are about ready to go live too. You can check it out at https://pixelton.world.

I wanted to share it here because I'm curious how it lands with people that love building cities. What do you like, what's missing, what would you like to see in future expansion packs?

Happy to answer any questions about the pieces, how I'm making them and future plans for Pixelton!

EDIT: if we don't yet ship to your country yet from pixelton.world, please order from Etsy at https://pixeltonworld.etsy.com.

Discussion When does a city builder become a colony sim?

Trying to work out where most people draw the line. I understand that with a colony sim it's more about the people than the city, but so many games feel like a hybrid now.

Examples are Timberborn, Foundation and Medieval Dynasty.

Game Title: Last Camp

Hey there, I made a game which I dreamt of a long time, some sprites are AI generated, some sprites are taken, most of the code was written by me.

LastCamp is a top-down real-time strategy game. You begin with a few villagers and a small patch of land. Send a villager to a mine, farm, lumbermill or barracks and they take up that job, becoming a miner, farmer, lumberjack or warrior. Gather resources, put up buildings (there are over 25 types) and train your people. Daytime is for building and gathering. When night comes, wolves and other creatures attack, so you need defences and warriors ready. The map has several biomes, including forest, desert, snow, rock, sea and more. The game has a campaign, different map sizes and difficulty levels, and a world editor where you can make a map and share it with a 6-digit code. Up to four players can share one world in multiplayer. It runs in the browser with nothing to install. I'd welcome feedback on how clear the first 10 minutes are, whether the difficulty feels fair, and what to add next.
